Hey everyone!  So, I don't think I'm going to be filming RvB this week, in light of everything coming out today about Rooster Teeth's actions / behavior.  I just don't feel like I'd be in a good place to enjoy anything about watching it right now, sadly.  I'm really uncertain about where to go from here, and I think I'm going to post a poll this week about how (and if) you guys want me to move forward with the series.  Thanks for understanding!!!  ~  MH

I heard that RWBY might be canceled by Warner Bros. They are purging movies and shows weekly now. So many people are losing their jobs too.I actually canceled my Roosterteeth subscription yesterday. Warner is ruining a lot of my favorite things lately. I hope if they don't want to do RWBY anymore they sell it to someone who does

Joseph

What happened with Roosteeteeth this week?!

Kayleigh McRae

Kdin has stated that she has no ill will towards CRWBY. But Roosterteeth as a company. So I support the show RWBY but RT I will never be a fan of or give money to again after RWBY ends. But it's up to you Melissa what you feel is right. Many of the CRWBY stand by Kdin in her statements. And have been silently supporting her in her coming out with all these years of mistreatment. I support shows like "Owl House" or "Amphibia" for the creators. Not for the company that owns them. And I feel the same about that with RWBY, RvB I have a love hate relation with. If I'm honest the first 5 seasons weren't any fun for me. And I felt like it was overrun with bad humor. And hurtful stereotypes and misleding messages. For example how Donut was portrayed during the start. Which did get fixed later on but yeah... it's a tough call. But the later seasons have good lessons. So that's what I enjoy.

I'm encouraged by the corroborating and supportive statements & likes from nearly all the RT/ex-RT people I've considered the "good guys." But I'm crushed that the toxic environment there has hurt so many decent people and has been driving away many of their best talents since before I even heard of the company. And on a personal note, this motivates me all the more to get away from some toxicity at my current work (though it's not nearly as bad) as soon as I can find a better option.

As you are blatantly aware, I am a large Rooster Teeth fan and their two headliners, RWBY and Red vs Blue are two of my favorite shows - not just on your channel, but overall, so I’m super excited when it’s reaction day for those here. I imagine you feel fairly similar about those recording sessions. Naturally, I’m rather taken aback by the things that are coming out this week. I won’t pretend to understand the situation fully. I wasn’t there. I’ve never been in a position where I’ve dealt personally with discrimination on a level like this, so I can’t imagine what this person went through. But I can imagine how people should be treated. And this isn’t it. Side A of the coin: I imagine the truth is somewhere in the middle, and due to privacy concerns, we’re not ever going to know the true extent of what went on. At least the company actually made a statement addressing and responding to the issue instead of staying radio silent. Side B of the coin: We have one person’s statement, who, I might add, we have no reason not to believe at this point - why would they lie? I have no reason to think they aren’t telling the truth: I don’t have the full context though. That’s my quick look at the both sides of this coin. The real question: Who knew there was a problem and who didn’t - And more importantly, who didn’t do anything about it? Like a lot of the entertainment industry, I try to separate the product on screen from the people - because as you know, that field is a cesspool and things like this happen far too often than not, sadly - no entertainment company is immune to them. But that’s a blanket statement. There seems to be a growing trend of people who were working directly for RT leaving the company’s umbrella, but yet they still are happy to work on the RT projects they started as independent contractors. CRWBY has a ton of cases like this. Given the allegations coming out, it’s starting to make more sense why people are choosing to work like this instead of directly for the company. I may be misinformed, but It’s my understanding that even Kdin is still willing to work with CRWBY after leaving the company, and given the seriousness of their complaint here, that does say something and also tells me their issues didn’t come out of RWBY’s production staff. But do we punish all the other people who didn’t have anything to do with the matter along with those who were complicit, because of events that were happening above their pay grade? Every interaction I’ve had with personnel from RT has been nothing but positive. The internet staff, the people at RTX, the talent I’ve actually been able to interact directly with. Everyone involved with the company I’ve dealt with was incredibly nice and friendly no matter what “level” they were at. As you know, I got to attend my first RTX this year and the whole experience was nothing but positive. So after the fact, it’s really disheartening to hear stuff like this coming out. To sum up: It’s like a relationship. A lot of other RT-content reactors are feeling the same way you are this week, going from “we’re awesome right now” to “it’s complicated” status. Regarding the company itself, this information was just released. So now it’s time to keep an eye on how they react to it. My personal feelings regarding your channel as far as both RvB and RWBY go, are to please continue reacting to both shows. That’s what I would personally vote for. They’re too well made as shows. A lot of people who had nothing to do with this drama put a lot of blood, sweat, and tears into these shows. There’s a reason they’ve been basically carrying the company flag for the better part of two decades. I think it’s perfectly fine to take a sabbatical this week given what’s happened, it’s ugly. But I think we’re all a little bit too emotional/heated about the situation right now to make any decisions. Let’s all take some time and all calm down from our initial reactions for a few days before deciding on anything. So to sum up, since my brain is a jumbled mess about this: I’m disgusted by the accusations and do not condone that behavior and those at RT who were responsible absolutely should be accountable for their actions. But on the flip side, I also love these shows too much to want them dropped, and want to support the people who are/did work extremely hard to produce them who had nothing to do with this and just got caught in the crossfire. In a nutshell: I suppose the end result here is I want to have my cake and eat it too. It really sucks when real world drama starts to bleed into things we consume to escape reality, and I wish I didn’t feel the need to spend an hour trying to organize my thoughts into a coherent form on this today, instead of just enjoying the series without worrying about off-screen drama. Hopefully, positive changes at RT’s management level will be the result of all this and fans of their content (namely, us) won’t find themselves in a position like this again.

Zen Reacts

Theres alot to process between Warner media ruining the livelihood or RT staff and so much negativity brought out into the open. Like ive said before I've been following Roosterteeth since it began and it's been there to help me through some of the shittiest times in my life.

Nicholas Schaeffer

The truth is they are a company that grew too fast from about a dozen guys to over 500 people and just like any big company this is going to be a problem and this is not the first time that this is come up, they have had multiple such statements in last 3 years. But I don't think it's any different at Disney or Warrner or Paramount or Netflix or Amazon ect. A lot of people of minorities talk about how great it is so I think in a company that big its who did they work with who was there manager, because RoosterTeeth has a lot of divisions and is part of Warner/Discovery, will we not watch Batman or Discovery because of bad apples in the company. Just my two cents but I like to enjoy content devoid of creators

Manny

Huh wha huh?

SaintLily

Definitely disappointing to hear about all that stuff. For what it's worth, it does seem like most of the bad stuff going on lies at the feet of the management rather than the people actually working on the shows (I was pretty relieved to hear Kdin mention that in the midst of all her poor treatment, Miles, Kerry, and crwby generally were all quite good to her and she wants to keep working with them), so I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing to keep watching and enjoy the work of those creators. That said, definitely does all leave a bad taste in the mouth, and I wouldn't blame you for not really feeling comfortable with it.

SaintLily

For what it's worth, it's not just one person, a number of others including Jen Brown and Arryn Zech have also spoken up over the last few days about similar treatment they and others they know in the company have received

kamenriderhime

It came out that they were using slurs against Kdin in the workplace. As well as unpaid / unfair wages and a general cruel working environment. That's really truncating it though!

kamenriderhime

That's good to know about CRWBY! That's an excellent point too. I think you're right that there was a lot of questionable stuff in those first few seasons, which I mostly attributed to the time period and general cluelessness, not that that makes it right by any means. I agree that there really is some great stuff in there, especially as the series goes on! Honestly, I'd like to keep watching, but no content to me is worth sacrificing the feelings of those who watch with me and have supported me for so long. So ultimately I think I'll leave it to my viewers!! If everyone feels okay about it, I'll keep going!

kamenriderhime

Yes, it's very disillusioning! I'm sorry you've had to deal with that and I hope you can find something better really soon!!!

kamenriderhime

It's so hard because so many aspects of their stories, and so many of the people involved, are actually really great. It's awful that there were those who perpetuated unfairness and downright hate speech. There's definitely a lot to process!

kamenriderhime

Omg what happened in Cartoon Network?! :O Also Nicholas, that's a fair point that many companies have things like this going on, while also having team members and managers who did not act inappropriately or unfairly too.

kamenriderhime

It's very disappointing! And yes it does seem that this generally comes down to a few people and not necessarily CRWBY or anything. I'm glad Kdin mentioned that! It definitely left me with a really bad icky feeling that made me not want to react yesterday lol but I think it's a fair point that it might not be worth boycotting all the content altogether, because there were so many people involved who had really great intentions and never would have mistreated people that way.

JAMES D'ALESSANDRO

They axed Young Justice. That's my 3rd favorite animated show after Avatar The Last Airbender and RWBY. Just ahead of Clone Wars and Rebels. They announced a Justice League RWBY crossover movie only a couple of months ago too. I might have to get rid of HBO Max if they keep purging shows.

kamenriderhime

SaintLily - yes, I'm seeing those statements coming out now! :( Tyler - thank you so much for all your thoughtful feedback!!! I poured over your comment a few times because I think you really laid it all out here and made some great points. I was really glad that Kdin clarified about CRWBY too. I do love these shows very much, I look forward to RvB every week and I think it's safe to say that RWBY changed my life and will forever be in my heart! I'm glad you had positive experiences at RTX and I have to say, every time I've ever reached out to RT customer support about videos, they treat me SO well. It's really not the entire company. It's just sad that those who were acting this way made such a terrible negative impact. But it's true that there are a lot of good, decent, hard-working people who would never dream of treating someone that badly who worked on these series. It's tough to separate content from the company but I definitely see what you mean. I really hope something is done to rectify all this. Nonetheless, I tend to agree with what folks are saying here, that there's still a lot of good stuff to be found in shows like RWBY and RvB and it might not be the best idea to stop watching altogether! My thing is, I would never want to sacrifice the safe feeling that I've tried to maintain on my channels, for content....so I think ultimately I will leave it up to you guys to decide. Pretty much all the comments here sound like folks are okay with me keeping going!

kamenriderhime

Oh no!! I'm so sorry. HBO Max was also really unfair to reactors when they took over for Gen:LOCK, too.

Joseph

It makes me so disillusioned to see what’s become of rooster teeth. It started of as just a bunch of college friends playing video games and now it’s seemingly become such a hellhole.

Kayleigh McRae

Gonna catch up on your spy family and MHA reactions in the meantime. So no worries. No matter what I love watching you.

2022-12-31 00:41:28 This is a hard thing to talk about. I had the feeling this was the case for a while now but the management used the trust built up by the creative team and the great people who became the face of the company to try to get people to believe they were actually trying to improve things. Doing this is an insane betrayal of trust. It’s an unfortunate truth that so much management at companies and companies are actually terrible even if they make great things. However I don’t think boycotting RWBY is the way to deal with it because that would be taking away the dreams of finishing the show from the good people working on it. I would say to continue Red Vs Blue but take the time to think about how you feel and what you want to do as well. The thing I hate is how people who have always hated on RT & RWBY because they were toxic are using this to validate their feelings/opinions. And this is even more ridiculous because they were usually being assholes to the great people at RT. We should not punish CRWBY and other good people trying to make a difference at the company simply because of the people at the top. I think you should know that the response from RT was full of corporate legal BS that was definitely made by lawyers to protect the company and most of it was written in a way to avoid accountability and had no real apology. I hope they decide to take accountability and make genuine improvements and changes I really do but they really lost my goodwill. They will need to do a lot and show proof of improvement to gain my trust back. I hate Warner Brothers with what they are doing I wish another company had gotten financial control of RT because things were terrible for a long time but WB probably made things worse. I think this basically comes down to separating the company from the product even if it’s hard and everyone should make the choice they feel is right for them when it comes to supporting this company in any way in this kind of situation. This whole thing is pretty depressing and all of us will need to think some time to think about things and our feelings. A comparison to make is how bad the conditions are in the animation industry especially in Japan. Sending you good vibes Hime. I will always enjoy & love your great content. Please keep up the great work. Have a great rest of the week. :-) <3

Sounds great, hope you love my reactions!!! And oh my gosh, I can't tell you how much that means to me!!! Thank you so much :D I'm so happy you're watching along with me!!!

kamenriderhime

It's very sad!!! Apparently this isn't the first time something negative has come out about the treatment of their employees, but this was my first time hearing about it and I was really upset for all the people who were hurt, and disappointed in the company's treatment of them.

kamenriderhime

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts here! It is devastating and disappointing but I agree that boycotting might not be the best answer. It is so true that there are a lot of great, hard-working people at RT and in CRWBY who are not responsible for this! WB is not helping for sure. And that's a good comparison!! Thank you so much for all your kindness and support! I truly appreciate it!!! :D

kamenriderhime

Hey everyone, so I think I've made my decision to go ahead and keep going with RvB (and RWBY when it comes back too). I was going to post a poll but I have a good idea of how you're all feeling now, and I think you've all made some great points! I'm going to try to resume with my regular schedule next week. I'll keep you posted along the way of course :) Thank you all for sharing your thoughts and feedback, and I truly appreciate all the support and patience!!!!
