Hey everyone!!!  I'm back with episode 10 of Andor!  OH WOW!!!!  I was totally mesmerized with the story they were telling about Kino here, I think the acting was superb, and I loved watching his journey of going from reluctant to taking charge and leading everyone to freedom.  How horribly ironic and tragic that he got all the way there only to be not able to swim!!!!!!  UGH!!!!!  Speaking of great acting, LOVED the moment we got with Luthen here!  What a great summation of his character and his actions throughout this series.  Mon is presented with a horrible choice, I wonder what she'll do about it?  And finally, I think Cassian's experience in the prison has taught him the importance of taking a stand.  Cannot wait to see more!  Great ep!  Enjoy!  ~ MH

One of thee best episodes in the series. Like what did we do as star wars fans to get 2 amazing, perfectly acted, well written speech's from 2 really impactful, S-tier characters in the SAME! Episode. This show truly deserved everything when it aired.

OMG!!! So true!! This was so well done! A real treat for us fans, no doubt :D I believe there's a season 2 coming in the not too distant future?? Something to look forward to!!!

Somewhere between the start of this show and now, it kind of got us hooked on it without us realizing it. I think the best way to describe it would be a “snowball” effect. If you roll one down a hill, it picks up steam and gets larger until you have no idea how fast you’re going and are just kind of along for the ride. That being said, it’s pretty neat that George Lucas has found as many talented people as he has who are actually fans of the franchise and have very creative minds. I can point to Dave Filoni (The different animated series), Jon Favreau (The Mandalorian), and Tony Gilroy (this series). They’re all part of the same franchise and lore, and yet, the stories are completely different. But they also work on the level they’re supposed to. A couple of notes before I get to the meat: what’s Maarva really doing, is she really ill or is this a ruse? And Lonni was the soldier in the room with Dedra and Partagaz suggesting they “take an interest” in the dead pilot they planted to ward of suspicion. So he’s extremely high up in the ISB. So Narkina Five blew up because they didn’t pay the plumbing bill? Also, shutting down the hydro generators means you can’t open them for weeks? Who’s running this operation? Oh wait, don’t answer that.. 😅 There’s a lot of irony in this episode - like seeing the inmates take over the asylum and all of a sudden the guards are the ones hiding for their lives. In fact, the whole prison break might be a snapshot of the Rebellion. Too many people get pushed down by those in power for too long, and then one person starts something… and then it spreads - and then it takes root. And then you have all of these people who’ve been on the wrong end of the stick for so long believing they can change it… and they do. Because one person’s power is not absolute. There’s another ironic twist in the fact Kino can’t swim - which I relate to, I never learned either. Not for lack of trying, mind you, but it’s a concept I never could get comfortable with. Kino and Luthen are very much alike. They’ve both sold their soul for something they believe in, in a sense… and as Luthen said, he is not going to be around to see the results of everything he has tried to accomplish. Others will benefit from his actions. The same way everyone benefitted from Kino’s actions - except himself. The Rebellion will succeed in the end, but change always comes at a cost. And sometimes the price is not one you want to pay. Speaking of that aspect, Mon has her own decision to make. It didn’t sound like Davo was forcing a betrothal on her daughter, but he did want a meeting arranged. There’s a lot of customs involved here I’m unfamiliar with as well, but it seems marriage is not always about love in Chandrilan society. Perhaps the kid himself isn’t a scumbag, and he’s right about one thing… as repulsed as she is by the idea, she has to consider if it’s worth the risk. Just like the others. Somewhere along the way, Cassian turned from the protagonist into a plot device for the other stories, recently, didn’t he? Oh well, I’m sure we’ll get back to him soon enough. Also, you’re right about the acting, Andy Serkis and Stellan Skarsgard killed it (again!) but the entire cast is doing such a good job of inhabiting their characters that you kind of have forgot they’re acting when they’re doing their scenes. Being a popular franchise has its privileges, of course, but when you get people who can really throw their weight behind well written stories, we’ll, then you’re really catching lightning in a bottle (and not the kind Palpatine shoots from his hands!) 😎

Cassian saying he'd rather die trying to take them down, than die giving them what they want. Is he beginning to believe? We've never seen Mon Mothma's family before and she seems to be on her own later as she is busy with the Rebel Alliance. Does she yield to Davo's demand? Is her daughter's future a price worth paying in order for her to get fully involved in the Rebellion? Mon Mothma has always appeared in the films and elsewhere, to be a beacon of light, and the leader the Rebellion needs. 'Sacrificing' her daughter and becoming family with a person like Davo, would taint that, BUT it would also show just how much she is willing to do to end the tyranny of the Empire. She has dipped her toe in and found things a bit hot just now, but she will have to wade in all of this at some point. The prison break is a microcosm of what is to come, as more and more get into the fight against the Empire. I said this during an episode of Rebels : The Empire has huge numbers, and resources, and of course has two of the most powerful Sith Lords of all time in charge also; however, though it is gigantic, there are more potential partisans/rebels that could rise up if they have enough of the Empire, and this is the one thing it fears - unity. Kino's speech to the men is inspirational and helps to give them one thing they have needed, while being stuck in this hellhole for god knows how long - hope. One of the fundamental tenets of Star Wars itself; without hope, we have nothing. They may die trying this, but they will die as men free from the chains the Empire has forced upon them. I think he hesitates before delivering the speech as its dawning on him that he can't swim, but will help the others escape and do all he can, to ensure that happens. The overhead shot of the prison is a wonderful image, its resembling the Imperial Cog, its logo, and the prisoners are escaping from its grasp. Luthen understands he is damned for becoming this, he feels he has to be worse than the Empire in order to defeat them. He tells Lonni he is the hero he isn't. The Rebellion will need heroes if it is to succeed, but right now, it also needs monsters like him and Saw Gerrera. What a show. Finally, an old friend is asking : https://i.redd.it/yeydcnlmbzy91.jpg

My new favourite episode, with some awesome acting from both Andy Serkis and Stellan Skarsgard. Especially loved that ‘what have I sacrificed’ rant from Luthen at the end, partly because of how it was delivered by Stellan, but also because it adds so much to the idea that rebellions often surely do require ruthlessness and suitable people willing and inclined to be ruthless; it is great to see this idea explored within the context of a rebellion that has mostly (except for Rogue One) been treated rather differently, as if it was always ethically sound. I think one of the major differences between Saw and Luthen is that Saw plays his own ruthless game, directly risking his own life, and directly perpetrating the violence, but Luthen is aiming to be an invisible behind the scenes playing others like pieces on a chess board, including a willingness to sacrifice some of his own pieces on the board ( as we saw at the end of this episode). Question: what does Luthen hold over that ISB agent he was talking to at the end? The agent had had enough of his double life (who can blame him?) but clearly Luthen was the one who was in control of whether he could stop being a double agent, and he effectively refused the request. Is it just that Luthen could expose the ISB agent to the empire? That doesn’t sound right to me, as the double agent knows who Luthen is and could tell the empire. I assume that Luthen is blackmailing the agent: perhaps he would kill the agents wife and daughter? Not sure, but somehow it’s Luthen in control.

Not sure if a season 2 of Andor has been announced, but surely there is plenty more story that they could tell, given this is still at least 4 years before the Death Star is destroyed in A New Hope.

kamenriderhime

Exactly, the snowball effect is a great way to put it. Yes! Couldn't agree more about the masterminds involved in all this different Star Wars content. Good call about Lonni, I had forgotten he was that high up! Also good point about Marva, I'm honestly not sure at this point. Hahahahha who's running this operation indeed.......you'd think Palpatine would be a bit more organized after being the gosh darn chancellor, but then again I doubt things like this are high on his list of priorities. :P Oh yeah, the irony of the role reversal was great! That's a great point, what a great allegory for the rebellion in general. So sad about Kino, but again lines up really well with the cost that so many of our rebels have faced. Yeah, I know it's not exactly a forced betrothal but.....still didn't like the implications!!! That's the thing, we're not in a spot where we can afford not to consider it, which is really crazy. Hahah yeah Cassian's got a whole new role to play! YES!!! The acting is so good! HAHAHAHAHA the lightning reference is not only spot on but very topical :P

kamenriderhime

I think he is beginning to believe! Oof, it's a hard question to ask about Mon but it is worth noting that she's on her own later, at least as far as we can tell. That's the thing, she's such a symbol of light, it would be tough to think she had to make some really tough decisions to get things done! Then again, that's kinda what this show is all about. And it would really show her dedication, as you stated! So true, the prison break is small compared to the ongoing fight against the Empire! Unity is definitely what they fear!!! So well said!! I loved Kino's speech!! SO true - hope is a major point of the whole franchise!!! Ohhhhh that's a good point, maybe he was considering the swimming thing even before the speech. Yet he did it anyway! The visual of the prison escape from the outside was great for sure! Very symbolic. It's scary but hard to deny that while the rebellion needs heroes, it needs people like Luthen and Saw too....!! It's a great show!!! OMG!! Even Vader is concerned hahaha!

kamenriderhime

I think I might have to agree!! The acting was superb! It is truly interesting to explore this idea, that it's more than heroes that are needed. That's a great point about the difference between Saw and Luthen too - Saw's is definitely more inwardly focused, whereas Luthen's is working from behind the scenes and sacrificing others. Hmmmm, that's a good point - Luthen must have more than that, maybe even threatening his family. Scary stuff!!!

Saltire

Yes its starting filming next month I believe. The original plan was for it to be 5 series, but the showrunner said it took a lot out of him this season, so it has been shortened unfortunately to 2 seasons. This season is spread over the course of a year, and next season we believe will cover the next 4 years in the run-up to Scarif and Rogue One itself, to end Cassian's story.

Saltire

I think thats what the hint is from Luthen at the start of his conversation with Lonni; talking about his family puts Lonni on the backfoot from the off. Its a threat. Also if Lonni somehow tells the Empire about Luthen, it would be a pyrrhic victory, as though it would bring down Luthen/Axis, he'd be heavily putting his family's lives in serious danger. It is a good point about another difference between Saw and Luthen. Saw is passionate and emotional, and can be callous with others who get in his way, or who stand between him and his missions; however he IS always in the thick of it, and does put himself in danger too, to accomplish his goals. He'd rather be there on the front line, than being a puppet-master.

kamenriderhime

Yeah, I think you might be right. That definitely felt a bit threatening! And Lonni is stuck, like you said, since he can't double cross Luthen due to his own family's safety. Yeah it's an interesting contrast between them!!

kamenriderhime

Nice!!! Yeah this is a pretty intense, high production series, I can see how it would be a lot!!! That's awesome we'll get a season 2 though, that fills in the gap.

Cody

Not sure what’s going on but the link to the reaction isn’t there for me. It’s just the title and then your thoughts, no video in the middle.

kamenriderhime

Hey Cody! That's so weird, I have no idea what would cause the footage to disappear but it does look like the link disappeared out of the post when I unlocked it!! I just replaced it, is it working now? On my end it plays the video with the whole reaction in it! Let me know :)

Cody

Yup it’s working fine now! Getting to the episode, I think this is my favorite one now. Kino taking charge of the prison break just to find out he can’t swim is so sad, I hope he still made it. And the image of the prisoners swimming away from the prison, which is shaped like the Imperial emblem, is so beautiful. Every single one of them is now a potential Rebel literally escaping the grip of the Empire.

kamenriderhime

Oh good, glad it's working! Omg right?!!? What an ep!! The visuals were so well done, agreed. Such a great point too - they're all potential rebels!!! The Empire is just churning them out at this point, the way they treat people!!
