Hey everyone!  Here's my next reaction to MHA!  WHOAAA!!!  You guys, the long-theorized concept is finally confirmed!!!  And JEANIST!!!!!  Omg, I'm still reeling from this one.  It brought up a lot of feelings for me about Endeavor's past and what it will mean for the public to be aware.  Not to mention my Bakugo STILL wants to fight and I cannot possibly allow that!  No idea where we're going from here or how this will impact society at large, but what a timely save from Jeanist, woohoo!!!!!!! Plus, I think Toga got what she needed from the conversation with Uraraka.  Bonus points to Froppy for showing up to help!  :P  Can't wait for more!  Great ep!  Enjoy!  ~ MH

Lol it’s fine, the dub for this episode came out a couple weeks ago. And yeah, the VA killed Dabi’s monologue, it was so good!

Cody

The dub gets better every season. There’s a few scenes where I actually like the dub more, cause I’ve seen it so many times through reactions.

Thanks so much!!! Yeah I might have slightly preferred that they didn't show Jeanist at all like in the manga, it still works though! I know, seeing them work together was nice, they're true professionals. That had to be a lot of pressure on him for sure, to be the only one not drastically injured! I know, Shigaraki's determination is scary. It's sad but true that Izuku being here is probably the best way to hold him down. I know, it's sweet that Nejire is even more motivated after seeing her mentor! No kidding about the real life blood fixation disorder, I didn't even know that! Yeah it's sad that there's so much confusion between Toga and Uraraka here, it'd be nice if they could just have a heart to heart wouldn't it? It's really sad that Toga has a genuine issue she's dealing with but no one can really take the time to get to know her past the point of that. Yeah it's a shame things didn't turn out differently for her, and the way it comes off to Uraraka is just that she enjoys pain. Yeah the fight looked awesome and good point that it's another sign of the misunderstanding between them that Toga interprets that line as a threat on her life. I know, it's kinda sweet/sad that she just wanted to talk about "girl stuff" and also good call that Uraraka noticed the crying. It's extremely important to remember, especially at a time like this when the tensions are high, that villains are human beings at the end of the day. Yeah the visual of AFO and Shigaraki is creepy and great. So true about Endeavor's inner dialogue too. I know, this would have been very different if Shigaraki had been awake. Also Spinner's line LOL. No kidding about Dabi in front of the hair salon, that's a crazy detail!!! Also good call on the dye remover looking like tears, so fitting. Oh I know, the expose on the Todoroki family was just what it took to really blow the lid off everything. The poor mom! Oh that's an interesting detail about them rushing to turn off the tv in the manga. OMG Dabi cut loose was pretty intense to watch haha. Couldn't agree more that all of it - animation, VA, etc. - was so well done. I know, it's jarring to think at one time Toya really wanted to be a hero. OMG I agree that it would have been way worse if they'd involved other forms of abuse against the wife, I'm glad it wasn't that. Yeah I believe that Endeavor "moved on" from making Toya into a hero because he didn't want him getting hurt, but that's probably not how it felt to Toya. Also things are so bad that even Look Boy can't turn them around!! Sheesh! Yeah Dabi knew what he was doing showing Hawks kill Twice, sheesh. Endeavor's voice acting was great. OMG the Maury comparison lol, it's so wrong yet it fits!!! I totally agree the voice acting was so strong here, that's awesome that it's so good in the dub as well! No kidding about Qrow's VA, that's awesome!!! Thank you so much for all the kindness and support! Sorry it took me forever to respond!!!!

Ah yes, the secret we manga readers have known for over a year but the clues were there. Dabi's first appearance is in front of a hair salon for instance. They actually removed some panels from the manga of doctors running to Rei's room to shut off the TV. Honestly endeavor seemed to care about Toya to the point where he moved onto Shoto not ONLY because his quirk was "better" but because Toya was hurting himself. The voice actors of Dabi and Shoto killed it this week. Dabi acting crazy and shoto actually showing some emotion and panicking as he screams for his father to move. I love how they show Endeavor, i know he has a punctured lung but he is breathing like he is having a panic attack. I honestly think aside the hatred Endeavor has for Dabi he is honestly happy that Toya is alive. Weird technicality on Best Jeanist's quirk. Those cables were carbon fiber and he can control fibers so that's how they justify that one. In the manga they do give a shot of jeanist on the plane but it's much more obscured. Jeanist is pretty dark on the panel but you can kind of tell it was him. I forget but i feel like parts of this episode were split between... 3 issues? So it works better getting it all in one episode in one go. Now for next weeks episode i get to see one of my favorite characters!

Hi Hime :) Melissa : "No one want Shigaraki to finish baking" My Mind : Endeavor use Prominence burst on Shigaraki > *oven bell ringing* Sometimes I wonder how my mind works lol. On the other hand, speaking of baking and cake, even if current Endeavor is still buff and has some cake, I must admit that its young version in the flashback is very.... hot. For the relationship Endeavor and Toya, I will try not to spoiler, it will be discussed later, but you can already draw some conclusions. As seen with the FB, even though Endeavor actually forced his marriage, he seems to be a really good and happy father with Toya and this one seems full of admiration and envy towards him. But we can see that despite his superior firepower, Toya burns himself using his power. Endeavor having pinned his hopes on him, probably trying to find a way to lessen that and not pushing him too far. Only after a few years, Shoto was born with the two quirks, Endeavor surely placed his hopes in Shoto wishing to save Toya from ruining his health. You can surely imagine that a kid like Toya who was trained for years by his father and hoped to become a hero like him, must have suffered from this change, to the point of training in secret until the inevitable happens. This tragedy coupled with the feelings of guilt surely made Endeavor even more obsessive and closed, leading to the personality he had at the start of the story. The Todoroki family is unfortunately reunited through obsession and the blindness of feelings, Enji wanting to surpass All Might, Toya wanting his father's admiration then his downfall and Shoto and his obsession with not looking like his father at the start of the story. A very tragic story, but unfortunately very realistic. Finally, of course we suspected that Dabi was Toya, but precisely, this revelation had to be done in the best way, and that it is the best way, than to destroy the reputation of two top heroes and install distrust in people's minds in relation to the heroic society? Dabi played his card well and it could have repercussions. This is one of the reasons why it is said that there is a before and an after this arc.

I'm glad the truth is out. An institution upheld by the support of the people will not reform unless its flaws come to light. And the crop of up-and-coming heroes should give everyone hope. My biggest concern is, given the discrepancies between Toya's memories and his dad's, and knowing that Toya is willing to manipulate events (Twice's death), the public is only getting part of the truth, and that unreliably. (Granted, Dad's memories may not be accurate either.) But I'm most concerned with how all this will affect Mama Todoroki.

Nathan Poulain Cigrand

After Shoto the Half-Hot, Half-Cold, we now have Bakugo, the Half-Dead, Half-Alive!...okay I'll go out xD But the episode was indeed intense, feels were there, and your reaction was on point (you're sure you don't wanna nickname your dog Toga? xD) See you next time!

kamenriderhime

LOL!!!! Awwww poor Bakugo!! Glad you enjoyed my reaction and LOL after seeing Toga using that little thing as a chew toy, it might be a fitting nickname :P See you then!

kamenriderhime

I have to agree! As much as I'd hate to see all of the really good, faithful heroes collectively take the heat as the whole idea of the hero society is brought down, you're right that nothing will change unless that happens first. But yeah, at this point I'm thinking Endeavor's memories aren't quite reliable either, and we know that Toya's aren't, plus the manipulation involved. Poor Mama!!! I'm so worried for her!!!

kamenriderhime

Ahhhh!!! It all added up, the confirmation was all we needed. Yeah I think Endeavor did care, even if he did do horrible things and could be really selfish at times. But it did seem that he couldn't control the powers without hurting himself. Yes, the VAs totally killed it!! So true that the punctured lung actually helped to emphasize the state of shock and panic. I'm sure he's happy deep down that he's alive, even if there's huge conflict there because he's now Dabi. Ohhh cool about the cables! And interesting about the manga, I was wondering if they did more of a surprise reveal. Yeah we're lucky to be able to watch all three at once! Ooohhh nice, can't wait for next week's too!

2022-12-31 00:12:05 I was so shocked and excited to see Jeanist, so Hawks did have a fake or something! And here we are, we all knew this confrontation was coming. I was actually very slightly spoiled on this. At a con this year, I got the autograph from Dabi’s English VA (he’s Qrow in RWBY 7&8), and the person like right before me had him sign a printed canvas or something of a manga panel from this moment. So slight spoiler, but it was inevitable.

Hi Spadeas! :) Hahaha lol I think that's pretty fitting actually! Well, I can't disagree about Endeavor, no matter how much I may dislike what he was doing at that time - it makes sense that looks run in the family since Shoto seems to be the talk of his class when it comes to looks! Yeah I don't like the whole forced marriage thing, yet it seems at first he actually wasn't quite as aggressive, so that's interesting. Interesting thought that he really wanted to protect Toya from hurting himself. I can imagine that was really tough for Toya though, to be trained like that and then what probably felt like being cast aside in favor of Shoto. And yes the tragedy really escalated things for Endeavor. Sadly, there's a lot of truth in the traumas displayed throughout the Todoroki family. Yes, Dabi was really thoughtful in his reveal, being sure to bring down as much as he could while doing it! Yeah, I can see the clear split in before/after now!

kamenriderhime

I know!!! I'm sure there's some explanation for it! Ohhhhhh no, so sorry about the spoiler!!! I suppose things like that are tough to avoid at a con, but still!!! I hope you could still enjoy it though!

Cody

We all knew this had to happen sometime so it wasn’t that big of a spoiler. I’m wondering how the dub will do it though, cause the line Dabi said on what I saw was a bit different from what we got here.

2023-01-15 19:53:58 I love this episode and your reaction. In the manga I have heard that the conversation in the jet happened but Best J was not shown at all which I personally think works better for the reveal later. I like seeing Endeavor and Shoto working together to catch everyone. At this point Todoroki was the only one mostly unhurt & not exhausted which was probably a lot of pressure. It’s so interesting to continue seeing Shigaraki and all for one fighting each other over what to do. Shigaraki’s tenacity is insane and really bad for the heroes. Good thing back up arrived when it did. Izuku may be right that he has to stay to keep Shigaraki in one place but that doesn’t mean we have to like it. It’s also unfortunate that this is the only way to do this since Izuku is so hurt. I like how seeing her mentor hurt strengthens Nejire’s resolve and determination. I love the scene between Toga & Uraraka. I believe in the manga Toga talked about Twice but didn’t mention him being killed which I think is a subtitle error because otherwise Uraraka wouldn’t be so confused by a lot of what Toga says here. It’s sad that this conversation was full of misunderstandings because of Toga having such a different way of thinking because of mental illness/instability. I learned something interesting because of a comment I saw which is that IRL obsession with blood is called Renfeld’s syndrome. The fact that she has an actual mental illness makes things even more complicated. Also it makes me angrier at her parents because if they had just gotten her therapy or quirk to find ways to healthily understand, deal with her cravings. Things could have been so different if only’s right? Toga telling her about the deadly way she used Uraraka’s power is super dark especially Toga’s face. I think she was happy about this because it showed how strong her love is but of course Uraraka would see it as her being happy about hurting people. I love that it’s not just about their feelings for Izuku but it’s still important because of their connection. It’s very much also about hero society as well. I think Ochako’s new way of attacking is clever and cool and is probably a move somewhat inspired by Deku. I like how Toga looks like she’s dancing as she avoids the attacks. I love her dialogue about cravings. Uraraka meant that Toga doing violent things should be punished with like jail but it makes sense that Toga would interpret it as her saying heroes would be willing to kill her. It’s sad to see her crying here. I think it’s because she’s hurt someone she loves would feel that way about her but also she’s realizing even more how society views her. I appreciate that Uraraka notices this because I think it’s important for the hero characters to realize the villains have emotions if eventually they are going to reform hero society. I honestly think it’s cute that in her own messed up way Toga just wanted to talk about romance with Ochako. It’s unfortunate that all these misunderstandings just reinforces how she feels. It’s such a good but disturbing visual of all for one basically projected over Shigaraki. I love how Todoroki is animated/drawn as he approaches Shigaraki and goes all out. Machia really did show up at the worst time. I love Endeavor’s inner thoughts about how he has to save people/stop more people from being hurt no matter how badly injured he is. He wants to show the public that their trust in him is not misplaced & live up to his words of just watch me. Thankfully Shigaraki is unconscious for this since things would have been much worse for the heroes but also because I don’t think the Toya event would have been the same. In the dub Spinnei says you look terrible to Shiggy which is hilarious because I am like oh you don’t say LOL. And then we finally get to the reveal we all were waiting for and of course Dabi shows that he is Toya in the most theatrical/dramatic way possible and I was here for it. I found out from comments that when Dabi 1st appeared he was in front of a hair salon which is an insane/cool detail I love it although from what I heard it’s much more obvious in the manga. I think it’s a good visual that what he used it to remove the hair dye looked like tears. His plan was really well thought out as a way to ruin Endeavor’s life and to destroy people’s trust in heroes. Although clearly some of it was thought up on the fly since he needed Skeptic’s satellite & hacking skills to make it work. Airing the dirty laundry of the Todoroki family on live television and the Internet was a brilliant way to accomplish his goals. Like you I can only imagine what is going to through their moms head seeing this. This is so horrible especially because she was far on the road to recovery. I heard that something very fast and short from the manga that was cut was doctors and nurses rushing in to her room to shut off the TV so hopefully Rei didn’t have a full breakdown. We heard a lot of this information before but hearing it while all the death and destruction is impactful when Toya wants to bring down hero society. Everything about this was incredible. I was losing it from excitement when he started to dance and have the time of his life because it is so different from the way he has always acted any other time we have seen him. In my opinion even though It is done a lot but I love the trope of the calm/seemingly bored character whether it’s a hero or villain going crazy or showing excitement and the way it was done with Toya was amazing. I think the voice acting was my favorite part but a close 2nd were all his crazy faces because they were suitably awesome, horrifying and so well drawn. The dialogue was the most impressive from you reap what you sow on. Toya basically saying he’s fine with dying if he can take Endeavor out with him is crazy. Everything he says is handcrafted to cause as much pain as possible to Endeavor. He is right that the past doesn’t just go away but that doesn’t mean everyone should immediately turn on him but I do hope continuing to face his past is going to just continue to make Endeavor a better character/person. I love the spilt screen of Endeavor & Shoto’s faces because it perfectly represents their shock and horror especially the coloring and the way it was animated. The flashback was something we needed to see and I can tell there will be more in the future because we don’t know what happened when and after Toya was caught in a fire he most likely created while trying to train. I was happy to learn that even though he had forced his wife into a quirk marriage that he didn’t start out neglectful and abusive. It's strange learning that Toya was very interested/excited even to get stronger and become a hero when we see where he ended up. Endeavor became an abusive, neglectful husband and father but I was so relieved that his wife wanted more kids and he didn’t force her to have more children because it could have been so much worse/darker if sexual abuse was involved in this family as well. It was neglectful but like others I believe part of the reason he started focusing on Shoto so much was because he realized the Toya couldn’t continue training because he was hurting himself. Unfortunately I think when this happened Endeavor’s obsession became worse and that’s when the neglect & abuse began. And because of this neglect & not understanding Toya became depressed and eventually to prove to his father he could still be useful decided to train on his own which caused the accident. Moving on of course the story would focus on look boy here. Every time faith in heroes was wavering there was something or someone to reinvigorate trust/belief in heroes & look boy was 1 of those times but that’s not happening this time. Dabi is biased and there is more nuance but showing Hawks killing Twice was really smart because in this universe even though it’s hard to understand heroes are not law enforcement or soldiers they are basically super powered celebrities who are not supposed to kill no matter the circumstances so it will shake society to its core. Now it’s confirmed that Hawks’s father is the one Endeavor arrested when Ending became obsessed over him. I didn’t feel this way before but hearing Skeptic basically say bow down to the greatness of my editing made me like him as a character at least a little bit. The voice acting of Endeavor basically having a panic attack was damn good. When we 1st met him I think he would have been more worried about how all of this would have affected his image so I love that his reaction was because his dead son was somehow alive and reacting to what he has become and thinking things could have been different. I forgot to say people were comparing the paternity test moment to trashy shows like Maury with jokes like endeavor you are the father which is messed up but also funnier than it should be. Of course Toya would use his father’s own ultimate move against him to mess with him more and it’s ironic since he wanted to learn it as a child. Also prominence burn with his blue flames is beautifully animated. It was hard to hear Shoto with such panic & sadness in his voice as he is begging his father to move. This must be the 1st time he has called him dad in a long time. I can’t believe when I 1st watched this episode that I didn’t notice the tears in his eyes. Best J coming in for the save is 1 of the best moments recently even if I think it would have been better if we didn’t know it was him until he showed up last second I was still happy and excited. I love that he fixed his hair to be stylish because that’s the type of person he is. As someone else I watch very accurately put it Toya/Dabi is fucked up. The voice acting was incredible for all the characters but especially Toga, Endeavor and Toya. Also the dub is just as good especially the voice acting for Uraraka and Dabi. You would be familiar with Toya’s English voice actor Jason Liebreckt as the voice actor for Qrow from RWBY in volume 7 and 8 and he knocked it out of the park. As you and many others have said I think the reveal wasn’t the important part it was the execution and the reaction of characters and the implications it has on society and it was done as close to perfect as you can get. I really enjoyed your discussion after the episode you had great points that I really agree with. Awesome reaction & keep up the great work. :-) <3

Supermonaman

PS I love that in this episode Dabi stole and became the star of the show while Shigaraki was unconscious it was glorious to see.
