Hey everyone!  Here it is - my reaction to season 2, episode 4 of The Bad Batch!  This one was so much fun!!!  I'm all about a good racing ep!  WOW TAY-0 was something!!!  He should get his own spin-off series lol, I couldn't stop laughing!
But alas, he was too overconfident and Tech had to step up!  I was so proud of him here - and of our whole crew!  The way they care about Sid is really special.  But I didn't like the ominous hints that something will go wrong with that friendship...!!!
We'll see where they go with that!  Great ep!  Enjoy!  ~ MH

This was originally going to be a podracing episode, but they decided to make a new sport here called riot racing. Could be a solid game this down the line. TAY-0 is so full of himself, but I kind of love him! Sassy droids are the best droids. A nice tidbit too is that TAY-0 is voiced by the same fella who voiced BB-8 in the sequels. :) Many of the background assets used in this episode were intended to be for a Clone Wars ep with Cad Bane and Boba Fett (perhaps for their duel which was never shown?). One thing I've always loved about the Star Wars creators, is that if something doesn't get used for one thing, it may get used another time for something else. Mother Talzin's design for example was originally going to be Darth Maul's design. Speaking of designs, this episode is jaw-droppingly stunning. I was reading on the Star Wars website about Bad Batch last night from the animators, and a mandate from George Lucas in Clone Wars, was that you should be able to pause it when watching, and each image would look like a painting. You couldn't do that so much with most of TCW and perhaps (though I love the minimalistic look) some of Rebels; but you can certainly do that with Tales Of The Jedi and here in Bad Batch. Each frame is beautiful. Tech saving Cid's neck by winning the race. Crosshair may be my favourite Bad Batcher, but Tech is not far behind! Milking the applause with the Han Solo salute too - legend! :D

Obviously, there’s not as much to get into on this one philosophically as the previous one, as it’s meant to be more of a “fun” episode - there’s always a few things to notice though. The Riot Racing seems like a more uncensored version of Pod Racing where there isn’t any pretense of rules. Also, the whole “please pay attention to the race to avoid disintegration” announcement was quite funny. It seems like it’s a play on the warning they give at a baseball game to watch out for foul balls. Not gonna lie, I found Tay-0 a little more annoying and self-centered than funny, but maybe that was the joke? But I also was thinking that it was going to end up being Omega in the race instead of Tech. Tech did mention Sid seems to fall into this pattern of getting into trouble and needing them a lot, and Millegi seems to be quite versed in her past - you know whatever that is, it’s going to rear its ugly head at some point. I don’t think Tay-0’s crushing defeat was intentional, it was just one of those fluke things, which is why they brought up the “pay attention” thing earlier. Either way Tech sure learned a lot fast, enough to calculate a victory. Millegi’s warning to the others, might actually get them thinking… yeah, he’s kind of an adversary, but it seems like he’s also a person who has enough integrity to honor the deals he makes when he loses, so even though it might seem slimy, it could actually be true. It’ll be up to Sid to prove it. But the biggest concern is Tech just won a race that was being broadcasted and had thousands of people chanting his name. Which makes the next question: who ELSE might have seen this? 👀 May the Fourth be with you! 😁

Oh nice! Yeah they could definitely build a lot around riot racing! Hahaha TAY-0 is amazing and wow, I had no clue that he voiced BB-8 too!! I know him from Parks and Rec! Ohhh no kidding about the background being for a Cad Bane/Boba Fett ep!!! Ohhh maybe it was the one with their never-seen duel! It's cool that they're into recycling on this show haha, and I have to say, it's worked out a lot! Wow, that's quite a rule about the animation - it really rings true on this show!! I agree that it all looked fantastic. Tech is so awesome!!! Haha yes the Han Solo salute!!! Loved that we got a Tech-centric ep!!

May the Fourth be With You, and also Happy Revenge of the Sixth since that's when I'm writing this lol! This was a nice breather for sure! Good point, it's definitely like pod racing but way more dangerous somehow. Lol I could see that, it might have been part of the joke though lol, particularly that last "death" scene :P Yeah they definitely didn't mention all that stuff about Sid for nothing. That's a good point about Millegi, he might just be telling the truth. Weeeell, that is kind of true about Tech getting perhaps a bit too much publicity lol, wonder if they'll bring that up later!!

Speaking of voice acting, as if Dee Bradley Baker didn't do enough work on Star Wars being the workhorse on this show, he voices the cutest character in the new show Young Jedi Adventures. A bit different for what he has to do here in Bad Batch! :D Also speaking of new series, Visions season 2 released all their episodes on Star Wars Day the other day. OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!! That is so adorable it makes my heart hurt!!! Also HOW is that the same person doing that voice haha. Oh yeah and does DBB ever get any time off? They've got that dude working overtime! Not to mention he's another adorable creature who's a fave of mine on Star Trek Prodigy. Thanks for sharing! Definitely a far cry from Crosshair :P Thanks for the reminder! I'm watching my second batch of Visions today hopefully - my reaction to the first few eps comes out tomorrow!!! :D

Yes I watched a few episodes of Young Jedi Adventures. Quite liked it, but is obviously aimed at people 40 years younger than me! I think kids will love it, and its also the first time in animation of any form outside of the books, that we see the High Republic, as its set over 200 years before all this. I've still to watch Star Trek Prodigy, must get onto that sometime soon. Thinking of watching season 3 of Picard; I know you have the first season up here Mel, but though the first two seasons got well slated, apparently the third season is a joy as it brings together all the TNG cast. Excellent for Visions, will look forward to checking them out tomorrow with you, I really liked the first episode, but will speak about it when you upload them. See you then!

Aww I wanna see it now! Lol that doesn't mean that folks outside the demographic can't enjoy it though! No kidding, so it's set way back, interesting! I actually prefer that to being set too close to Clone Wars or Revenge of the Sith for....obvious reasons :/ I hope you enjoy Prodigy!! I'm hooked on it! I did in fact to get watch season 3 of Picard on my own time and I loved it! I honestly think it's the best season of the series, and it does have a much more TNG feel since the cast gets to reunite for a big adventure! I'm so glad you're watching Visions along with me!!! The season has been awesome so far!!! :D

This is a fun episode but man it’s frustrating on a rewatch. Omega stood up for her, the guys (however begrudgingly) helped her out of her debt, and STILL Sid rats them out! It’s stuff like this where, whatever happened to her, I don’t feel sorry for Sid. She had it coming. On a brighter note we get the great Ben Schwartz as TAY-0. I think the only thing I knew from at the time was Parks & Rec but I knew it was freaking him lol. Watching it now TAY-0 is basically his Leonardo voice from Rise of TMNT, similar personality too lol. And this was also just a nice chill episode to give Tech some spotlight to show how smart he is.

Omg I know! It's like rewarding and hurtful all at once lol. Sid really dropped the ball, what the heck right?! Omg I couldn't agree more about Ben Schwartz!!! I love him! That's so true about this being his Leonardo voice too haha! I love a good spotlight on Tech!
