Hey everyone!  Here it is - my reaction to season 2, episode 9 of The Bad Batch!  This was a really great ep for dealing with the aftermath of everything that just happened, primarily losing Echo.  This is the first time Omega's ever had, then lost, a family member!  It was great to see Tech in the role of comforting dad lol.  And what a background for all this to be happening against!  I also like how they're dropping tiny hints about Cid in relation to the whole "Cid's not really your friend" thing that came up a few episodes ago.  Now we just have to survive this place!!!  Great ep!  Enjoy!  ~ MH

We can see Omega here still struggling with Echo's decision. The rest are used to it, they are soldiers, especially when Tech bluntly points it out to Omega that they existed as a squad before Echo, and will do so after. Its not what she needed to hear though; Tech put his foot in it. Tech is very narky with Wrecker this episode, for losing the ship and the ipsium. Its a side we don't see with him and Dee Bradley Baker makes the most of it, giving some words real bite in his verbal attacks on Wrecker. Tech can appear distant as is his way, but note when Omega falls into the underground cavern, he doesn't hesitate to jump in to help her. Tech respects the decisions of Echo and Crosshair, even if he doesn't understand Crosshair's decision especially. Dee Bradley Baker plays Tech as if he is on the autistic spectrum; and those on that spectrum sometimes feel and act things in different ways to the majority of others. It doesn't however mean that he doesn't have feelings, he just processes them in different ways. When Omega hears this, she understands and this helps her recover from her nadir. After they escape and contact Cid to ask for help, she is pretty disinterested in their predicament, only reluctantly will say she'll send help and cuts them off. After all they have done for her, she reacts in this way. Omega however has a spring in her step once more, and confirms Tech's line from earlier that they'll find a way on their own to get off this rock. After the drama of the previous arc, this episode is a lot quieter, but no less impactful for our crew, and improves greatly with each rewatch imo.

The first thing I’m thinking about is this ipsium that they’re extracting - it’s volatile, it’s dangerous, and it’s going to be somehow relevant before the season is over, isn’t it? Because, you know, we can’t ever have a normal mission on this show. That just wouldn’t be… “normal.” 😉 I think you’re right about the clone fate being worrisome but I took all of the general “in-fighting” in this episode as more , Echo’s departure is affecting all of them even if they aren’t realizing it - particularly the way Wrecker and Tech kept snapping at each other. Tech is kind of like Tokito in Demon Slayer… he’s telling you how things are - but that may not necessarily be what you actually need to hear. I think that might be why you see a lot of empathetic people pair with less emotional ones, they tend to try to figure how the other is thinking out (in this particular case, Tech and Omega). It isn’t that he doesn’t care - he just is very stoic and doesn’t really have the same kind of emotional level. That’s something I actually can relate to. Oh, before I leave… I’m really surprised we went through the entire stampede scene on a Disney+ show and nobody referenced The Lion King…. 🙃 And then there’s Cid. Is the prophecy that was foretold coming true? I mean, you’d think if they just told her all the ipsium they’d mined, that would be enough incentive. Or… is there something we’re NOT seeing here? Wouldn’t be the first time… 👀

No doubt in my mind that Tech didn’t not care. It just comes out differently. But hey now Omega has “gained” a new brother/father, or at least unlocked a side she’s never seen before from Tech.

Right, this is particularly tough on Omega. Dee Bradley Baker did great here, as always!!! There was definitely some tension lol. Exactly, we've seen Tech on a few occasions jump in (literally lol) to help even when it wouldn't be "logical". That's a great point about the way he plays Tech. I loved their scene together! Yeah I was surprised at Cid, but wonder if this will tie into what they were saying about her earlier in the season. It was nice to see Omega bounce right back though! It's definitely important for sure, even if it is somewhat of a breather after the previous eps!

Exactly!! Everyone is different in how they process/express their feelings. Yes!!! Unlocked, that's a great way to put it :D

Hahaha we really just can't have an uneventful event on this show can we :P That's true, maybe the fighting was their own way of releasing some tension/feelings from Echo's departure. Hahaha he's totally like Tokito! That makes sense about the pairings too. Right, I think it's just a different way of processing, something I think a lot of folks can relate to! Hahaha ohhh that would have been the perfect place for a Lion King reference, dang it! I know, I kinda thought about that, that maybe Cid was really dealing with something so big that her reaction was warranted....guess we'll find out!
