Hey everyone!  I'm back with Jujutsu Kaisen season 2, episode 5!  WOW.....this one really bridges the gap of how things evolved from the way they were in the last episode, to present day.  It was sad to see Geto's whole downfall play out, but it was also really well done.  And we also got to see just how things played out with Gojo taking in little Megumi, how Geto built up his following, etc.  And apparently there's even another Star Plasma vessel, what's that all about?  Meeting the chick that Todo met as a kid, omg!!!!  She was MAD interesting, I wanna see her again!  Knowing that Toji might have been the key to finding another way to deal with curses, that's pretty wild.  What a great closer to this arc!!!  I loved it!  Can't wait for more!  Enjoy!  ~ MH

You guys I have managed to convince myself that at some point during this reaction I said "Star Platinum" instead of "Star Plasma". LOL if I did that, please note my sincerest apologies :P Also food for thought that didn't make it to the reaction: could they get the same info from Maki that they were hoping to get from Toji about the whole controlling-cursed-energy thing??? Hmmm....

Hello Melissa 👋, this was a fantastic episode and an incredible first arc. The Bath and rain scene sounding like claps as Geto gets more and more mentally worse is one of the greatest moments of this anime as a whole. The candles with blue fire part was amazingly done. Loved how they showed Getou's decision by using a candle going out. Not only that! The way the direction had such freedom in the 6+ minutes of massive dialogue with Yuki is something worthy of tons of praise. Keeping the viewer interested in scenes of pure dialogue must be something very difficult to achieve and this one definitely was breathtaking. We finally understand how Geto became the way he is today. He tried to stay strong and adhere to his ideals, but he became jaded and lost his reason, thus adopting a new way of thinking. I felt bad for Gojo because I know he felt betrayed. Going from friend to foe in an instant, despite their long history of partnership. Unfortunately, Gojo wouldn’t understand because he’s simply strong and like Geto said, didn’t have to experience those redundant, seemingly pointless mission that Geto did. No answer from Geto would have helped Gojo understand. I adore the new animation style, but I have noticed through anime forums that many fans do not like the animation and direction and call it "bad". Seriously, jjk fandom complain for no reason. They have such a great adaptation of their favorite thing and still cry about it . I really can't understand this. That's why the better fandoms are, most of the time, are those who get a bad adaptation of their favorite novel/manga. Only those who had suffered knows how to enjoy. I'm very excited to see what the next arc has to offer. According to manga fans, it's supposed to be fantastic.

So at this point isn’t permanent anxiety just kinda where you live? 😅 Anyway, it seems Gojo’s technique “refinement” at the beginning so he can do it constantly is not unlike the breath training done in Demon Slayer… though I’m not sure I’d want to continually fry and refresh my brain. That explains a lot, but it doesn’t sound healthy. Haibara is the kid Geto was talking to when they got interrupted by Yuki. Yuki seems to be a very matter of fact person and just lays things out as they are, but in this case, her observations might have hurt a lot more than they helped, based on Geto’s thought process. Tots kind of telling that he’s in the shower when you first see him dealing with this - it’s not just that the water sounds like applause, but it’s almost like he’s trying to rinse the whole set of emotions off of his being. Haibara was killed because somebody sent him after what was supposed to be a second grade curse, and it turned out to be first instead. That’s the first push, but it seems that when he saw a bunch of non sorcerers trying to convince him to kill two kids who he knew were innocent, that’s what broke the last straw. Up until then, as Yuki said, he’s weighing the positives and negatives of both choices. It’s a very Attack on Titan type predicament. But when you only see the downside in people… can you really blame him for latching onto that train if thought? Sometimes the worst monsters are humans. The unfortunate part is the truth is somewhere in the middle, which is not something he’s considering. To quote another franchise, only certain people deal in absolutes. (Also the thunder session was Nora. Somebody took all the pancakes this morning. 😋 )

I haven't watched your reaction yet (they go out around midnight for me and now it is 9AM and half), but IF you did call it "Star Platinium", i want to reassure you, you won't be alone. AliciaxLive made the joke from the get go.

Hi Hime :) Yes you noted it, but confusing the sound of the shower or the rain with applause, just to show that it stays in his head on a loop, is a nice touch to show his trauma and that even after 1 year. Now you know why you didn't know who Yu Haibara was, since he died before the events we know about. Riko, Yu and the two little girls are the nails that closed Geto's heart to humans. The two lil girls that Geto picks up are both in the film zero, in their teen version, they're the ones who wanted to eat crepes at one point. Small detail too, Sonoda, the one who was killed by Geto at the end, he was the one who had recovered Riko's body from Toji. So I want to say, good riddance. Yuki Tsukumo is indeed the master of Todo and is quite strong as an exorcist, you will see her again but much later, because she only reappeared fairly recently in the manga chapters, well after the Shibuya arc coming soon. Let's just say, she has a good reason to know so much about Jujutsu High, Tengen, star plasma vessel and not be okay with it all.

Rest In Peace Haibara. It sucks we didn’t get to know him much but off the bat you could tell he was a nice guy and the dialogue here made me realize just how honest a person he was. If I remember correctly there aren’t that many jujutsu sorcerers in present day; at least not enough to help spread around with the curses popping around. It must have been super busy for these guys then. 😬 He’s made horrific things happen, and he will again. But this season really made me like Geto. Even when he was considering and consumed by those thoughts, the journey from beginning to end made me sympathize with what he was wanting to do. This situation reminds me of Stain from My Hero Academia. He’s gone off the deep end but in his words you kind of see and understand where he’s coming from. I love characters like that. And I really like Geto more now because he’s still that guy from this seasons first episode that held the policies of the jujutsu sorcerer close to his heart, but after witnessing the things he did and then some, they just didn’t fully align as much with him anymore. And it goes back to what he said at the beginning; make sure there’s a point to it. It’s cool what they did with this one. Great episode.

Ohhh thank you so much for that lol!! I LOVE AliciaxLife, it's good to know we think alike haha!! ^_^

Hi Bellana! I agree!! I love the use of the sounds in this, it was so well done! And the candles!! They did such a great job of using audio/visual to get the point across here. That's such a great point, I actually didn't even realize that scene was that long because it very much did keep me engaged the entire time! I feel bad for Gojo too, and I get how he wouldn't be able to understand this no matter what. That's too bad that some aren't enjoying the new animation style, I like it too!! I think it's inevitable that some folks are just not gonna like certain changes/decisions in a fandom! I'm hearing the same thing, that the rest of this story/season is going to be sooo good! Can't wait!

kamenriderhime

Hahahah pretty much :P The process of keeping the ability going nonstop does sound pretty intense. Right, that's who I thought it was. Yeah, I mean the concepts themselves were not anything that Yuki meant harm with....but I think they got the wheels turning for Geto unfortunately. Ooooh good point about the subtle insinuation that Geto's trying to rinse off the entire situation in the shower scene. Ohhh is that why he got killed, ok, thanks for clarifying! The thing with the girls was definitely the last straw. I can see the comparison to AoT for sure! That's the thing, I think you're right that there is a balance here, but it's a delicate one. Omg, that phrase totally applies here! Ummm....what if I told you I was the one who stole Nora's pancakes??? I'm in trouble...!!!

kamenriderhime

Hi Spadeas! :) I love the use of the clapping sound!!! It definitely goes a long way in showing the impact of the trauma. Ohhhh ok, yeah that adds up about Haibara now. I can see how this all added up for Geto. I recognized the girls as soon as he took them in, I just couldn't remember their names!! Good call! Ohhhh that's who that was, got it! Yeah, agreed! Oh good to know we'll see more Yuki soon! I knew that's who she was! Interesting.....can't wait to know more once we get there!!

kamenriderhime

I know :((((( He was super genuine for sure! That's a good point, there's not enough sorcerers for the curse ratio. I hear you, I definitely understand him a lot better now! I can totally see the comparison to Stain! Me too, that's the best kind of villain - the complex kind. That's so true, he's still that same guy - it's not like he fundamentally "turned" evil or something, it was more of a shift of how he viewed those ideals. He did indeed make sure there as a point to it too. I agree, great ep!!!
