Hey everyone!  I'm back today with PART 2 of this awesome story!  This was so much fun!  I loved the designs, interactions, pairings, fights, emotional moments, etc.!  And after a little back and forth on who the bad guy was, it looks like they proved us all right with our leading theory!!!  It was fun to see the reversal of everything we saw in the first one - yet at the same time, the reasoning for everyone's emotional moments were different and felt very organic.  All the looks were great but I think my favorite was Weiss!!!  All in all this was a fun story and one I'm happy to have in the books!!  Enjoy!  ~ MH

Hi Hime :) So it happens after volume 9 and everything that happens during this volume. We start the film with the girls in Vacuo, Ruby becoming what she is after her ascension, but still a little in search of herself, official Bumblebee and Weiss managing her identity with the loss of Atlas. Regarding Watts, we suspected it was him in the first film, but as soon as he appeared in this film, I knew it was him, not by the voice, but by the way he spoke, the phrasing and intonations were very Watts for me. Killgore traumatizing Flash like Adam traumatized Yang, offers a nice moment where they can help each other, but where we also see how Yang dealt with her own trauma. During the final photo, you can see Yang and Blake kissing, which is adorable and definitely confirms that this is happening after volume 9. The new look, more adult and... muscular, is a real treat for the eyes. Broad-shouldered Ruby really has the look of a seasoned leader and fighter. Weiss has a "richer" look, a princess/ballerina side going with her agility. Blake has the vigilante side, especially with her mask, an outfit reminiscent of DC's Robin, Huntress and Catwoman, which suits her well. For Yang, definitely an amazon with this new musculature (thanks CRWBY for that), and as Neon would say, she's really "top heavy" here too. It actually makes you want to play with the universes on both sides to imagine what hasn't been done. Overall, I find his films really interesting, which manage to manage the meeting of the two universes and have character development at the same time. If the first film could have had difficulty fitting into the chronology of volume 7, this one can definitely be installed between Volume 9 and 10, or during the beginning of Volume 10 (crossing your fingers that it comes out one day). Overall, for films from which I didn't necessarily expect much, I would be really delighted if it was released in France, but the series would already have to be released here, which is not the case except digitally on crunchyroll, it's a bit dead...

There seems to be a bit of a misunderstanding on the timeline - this actually threw me off at first but the first shot of RWBY is in the desert, and every scene implies they are already in Vacuo. Based on this, and Yang’s response to “time is moving differently” of “yeah, we’ve dealt with something like that,” the events of Volume 9 have already taken place. Odds are that this is probably set shortly after they returned to Remnant. I think probably the best way to describe this is the same way you describe Ice Queendom: canon adjacent. It could’ve happened - but it didn’t have to. Ruby has a new lease on life but she’s so full of energy and confidence that she’s bordering on recklessness. The snake Grimm she was fighting in the desert, a King Taijitu, is the same brand that Ren dispatched early in Volume 1. Weiss’ big issue seems to be dealing with the fall of her kingdom, and the actions (or lack thereof) of her parents. Atlas was a top of the line country, but it had a dark side, which is probably why she vibes so well with understanding Batman and Gotham. Also, they don’t need their powers - they’re smart enough to use what they have. The fight with Blake and Jessica vs the sea serpent Grimm is a callback to her fight with the same one in Volume 4 (“this worked last time!”) when she took it out with Sun. Flash’s obsession with Kilg%re reminds me a lot of Blake’s obsession with hunting down Roman at any cost in Volume 2 - ironic that Yang is the one to snap them both out of it. Speaking of Yang, WHOSE IDEA WAS IT TO GIVE HER A FLAMETHROWER GUN!? 😆 Yang actually might be the one dealing with the most trauma - she isn’t saying it, but the events post Volume 9 have left her way more scared for Ruby after some of her… choices during that arc. She doesn’t completely trust her, and honestly, that’s warranted. But Ruby points out “you can’t protect me forever.” Sometimes cutting the ties and letting the other person make their own choices and trusting them to make them might be the hardest thing. Also, we all called it on Watts, too bad we didn’t cash that ticket out earlier - obviously since he was killed at the end of Volume 8, this was the only way to bring him back. Most of this is concentrating on the different personalities and how they fit together, interact, and the different personal stuff they’re dealing with. Gerald, I thought it was a good spin-off, but I don’t think it is even close to the quality produced by the actual series. So I’ll just close with this: this is the last RWBY content we have confirmed. The rest is silence, for the moment. #GreenlightVolume10 Nuff said. Keep moving forward.

Awesomeness. Getting many of the RWBY villains was not expected. They gave the Justice League a run for their money; that’s saying something. But our girls were in there element. I liked that there was a lot of action. The first time around we dealt with a lot of elements and we did hear too but everyone seemed so familiar with each other now. It was kind of like “let’s talk our problems our with our fists as we work through this turmoil!” 👊 I flipping love what they covered with the growing up struggle and loss Weiss and Batman shared. Flash and Yang moment was awesome. I loved seeing Flash getting back to his old self and with Yangs help. Jessica and Blake were a cool pairing. I think last time Jess went through an emotional journey and Blake having gone through an emotional journey made those two work beautifully together. Supes and Ruby were amazing. I really really loved there bond. I love the moment the shared after their spar. She’s on a reckless spiral at the beginning so I love his share in trying to shelter many burdens on his shoulders. They have that leader quality in common.

Fingers crossed i do feel in time we will get a V10 i really believe that but i dont know when, but RWBY has always been the one show that i love an chrish and to have it all completed would be great xxx

Darren

Great Reaction we just gotta hope we get some info on RWBYVOL10 next year fingers crossed, but you still have to react to Yang, Weiss and Blakes deathbattles :) you should defo react to them, each episode is like maybe 20min, they explain the characters who are gonna fight in much detail then the fight is after :) its fun

Hi Spadeas! :) Ohhh thanks for the clarification! It sounded like it was after what happened, but I didn't think they'd actually place it after Vol. 9! You're so right, his manner of speaking was totally there! That's so true, Flash and Yang could really relate about traumatic events here. Ohhhhh I didn't even notice the kissing photo, wow! The new looks were so great, right?! They did a great job, and the adult looks were definitely filled out! I really hope we get Vol 10 soon! Oh that's too bad there haven't been many RWBY releases in France! I hope that changes!!! Overall I think this was fun too - I agree!!!

kamenriderhime

Thanks for clearing up the timeline! I knew it kinda seemed like it took place after Vol 8, but I didn't think they'd have something canon adjacent (good way to put it btw) be the first thing after Vol. 9, you know? Thanks for the info on the Grimm too! It makes sense that Weiss would relate to Batman about their homes as well. Ohhh good call about the sea serpent Grimm!! I agree that Yang would probably have the most to be anxious about after all that. I agree that it's not as good as actual RWBY, but was still a lot of fun in its own right! #GreenlightVolume10 for sure!!! Keep moving forward :)

kamenriderhime

Thank you so much! I'd love to see the death battles! I was holding off on one of them because it had an AoT character, but I'm wrapping up AoT when I watch the finale this week so it should be all good haha!

kamenriderhime

I know right!? It was great! They did a lot of great stuff here. They were fighting actual monsters while fighting their inner demons lol. I know, Batman and Weiss were great in the first one, and here their bond makes even more sense. Flash and Yang were great too, and it was fun to see a pairing like Blake and Jessica. They did a great job of highlighting the journeys they'd just been through, like you said. Supes and Ruby are such wholesome besties lol, I love it! They really do work well together and have so much in common!

It made me happy that the first thing Jessica asked Team RWBY was about Jaune....she looked disappointed he wasn't there.

John J Ronald

Sidebar, Dr. Merlot is only from RWBY: Grimm Eclipse (the videogame)....he doesn't appear in the series proper.

Sorry I'm late to commenting, I preordered with RightStuf! before they got taken over by Crunchyroll. They didn't ship it until Halloween (Oct 31st) and I only got it this week. So yeah, as others have said, this takes place AFTER Volume 9....and I like that it recognizes that mental health and therapy isn't a one-and-done thing. Yes, Ruby needed the session with the Tree goddess to recover herself and become functional. But it's only natural that after that epic battle with the Curious Cat, Ruby is now overcompensating and charging recklessly into danger. Ruby went from PTSD trauma of the "shell shock" variety where she didn't even want to touch Crescent Rose and freezing up in combat, dropping Crescent Rose, unable to fight....now she's at the other extreme going 1 v. 1 against that Double Headed snake....and with just a little gravity-glyph backstop from Weiss takes it down brutally with an elegant flourish. Long story short, Ruby needed another session with another counselor (Superman) to gain a little more perspective...and also to be more empathetic toward's Yang's abandonment issues and concern for her safety. ("Still trying to one-up your big Sis, huh?") It's understandable for Yang to be angry and I'm glad they spent significant sections of this movie talking out their issues as sisters. These two movies are situated like RWBY: Ice Queendom....they take place at specific points in the RWBY Timeline but don't alter the main story in any significant way. They can be part of Canon or left out. It is a bold choice to place Part 2 after RWBY9 but at least we get a taste of what's in store for us in RWBY Vol.10 someday hopefully. Team RWBY makes it to Vacuo and Jaune reunites with Nora & Ren, and Ruby reunites with Oscar and everyone gets to meet Headmaster Theodore of Shade Academy. We know that Winter took care of the Grimm Swarm & saved everyone left and they made it to the city, etc. Now they've settled into their routine of patrolling the wasteland in and around Vacuo, protecting its citizens from an influx of Grimm, anticipating Salem's final assault. "I think we're going to be okay", says Ruby as they head back through Jessica's Lantern Portal back to Vacuo. So say we all, Ruby Rose. So say we all.

John J Ronald

For me it means that Jaune meant something to Jessica, she remembers him. I definitely ship them. #KnightLight

kamenriderhime

Gotcha, that's what I figured!!! I'm like there's no way I just forgot an entire character haha.

kamenriderhime

No worries, thank you so much for your feedback! Oh dang, that is a while, sorry about that! Gotcha, I wasn't sure on the timeline. I can totally see how the events of Vol 9 were not one and done like you said, and Ruby now has to deal with some residual issues that are leading to this reckless behavior. Good old Supes is ready to lend a listening ear fortunately! It was nice to see how Yang is dealing with it too. Gotcha, I really honestly wasn't sure about the canon. Yeah I really wasn't expecting this to be the first official sequel we got to Vol 9 which is why I think my head just wouldn't let me go there and I got confused on the timeline lol. But yeah, we have a lot to look forward to! So nice to see that they're settling into some sort of normal life/routine after the catastrophic events of the last few volumes!!!
