Hey everyone!  Here I am with the third ep of Oshi no Ko!!!!  Oh dang!!!  This one helped us get to know present day Kana a whole lot better!  And it was fascinating to learn some of the ins and outs of the industry and how a production is set up.  I love that all those details only go to show more about the character we're focusing on though.  It says so much about Kana that she's making so many adjustments to try and be a good actor and be good to work with.  I'm sure having Aqua there will help!  Also, what is with this director/producer guy?!!?!?  He's BLONDE?!?!?!!  I've got a bad feeling about this!  Great ep!  Enjoy!!!  ~ MH

Hi Hime :) The thing with Aqua no longer wanting to be an actor is that ironically, he idolizes Ai to the point of making her this exceptional being, impossible for him to achieve. But between that and his search for his father, he forgets to live for himself. Ruby on the contrary, is full of life, wanting to take advantage not only of this second chance she has compared to her old life, but also wanting to honor Ai's memory by reaching her level, to somehow respect the wish that Ai once had to be on the same stage with Ruby. Kana is quite fun to follow, especially her crushing on Aqua really really hard, in a very visible way lol. But her character has also grown and even if she still remains a little naive in certain aspects, she has gained a certain maturity which makes her endearing. You talk about the dance associated with the song "Idol", I remember seeing two actresses from King Ogher (the super sentai of this year), on this song. For context, the one in black plays a character called Rita, the one appearing behind in purple is Morfonia. Morfonia is supposed to be Rita's subordinate and right hand, personally I ship them both in the series, so this video makes me smile every time. https://www.instagram.com/p/Cts2Zhcppya/ And just for the fun side of it, but in the last episode, Rita, working undercover, enters a competition to become an idol. So here is the same actress, playing the same character, playing an idol, lol. https://www.instagram.com/p/C0GRYQXS8VL/ Also, since I talked about Queen Bee for Chainsaw Man and Oshi No Ko, since they do endings for these two series. I would like to tell you about another series which this time they do the opening, have you heard of Undead Unluck ? This anime might interest you, but maybe it's better if I talk to you about it via PM, right ?

Oh, speaking of Live Action adaptations of manga/anime, I would LOVE to see you react to the Netflix Live Action of ONE PIECE. I'm totally not a big fan of the anime, but the LIVE ACTION is next level! The writing is so much more mature, Monkey D. Luffy is a much more likeable protagonist....naïve but earnest & charismatic. The Live Action One Piece hit me in the feels over and over and made me cry manly tears. It's SO good! And it'd be a perfect reaction fodder for your channel, too, I think.

Like, Kana straight up (indirectly) would be willing to go to a Love Hotel with Aqua "only those places aren't open yet..." .... like she doesn't say that directly but it's heavily implied .... and also straight up invites him back to her place. She's fallen for him BAD. He's all grown up, tall, and not only is he a kind of muse for her but she's obsessed with him as an acting rival plus he's SO handsome now. Aqua is good at playing different roles, letting go of ego and "becoming" the characters because holy crap he's done that for real through reincarnation....he was once a doctor, then an idol's son, now a High Schooler with a talented twin sister. He knows a thing or two about adopting to new personas as situations require...plus all the elaborate sabotage of Ruby's idol ambitions and going undercover as a "scout" for his adopted mother's agency, etc. He can't tell Kana any of that, but she knows Aqua is special in that way, even if she doesn't know the full details.

I'm giving the One Piece anime another chance but find myself saying over and over "the live action was better."

Oh hi there, I haven’t seen you in a while! … Too soon? Those words didn’t just become an arrow and shoot into your heart too, did they? Regarding the theme, if I recall correctly, they alternate translations - so one episode will be the Japanese phonetic sounding lyrics on screen, and then it will be the English translation after that. Aqua is right about Kana being her senior, but calling her Loli-senpai might be hitting a little below the belt for her, don’t ya think? I do believe Kana is genuinely interested in what Aqua has been doing but she’s coming on a little too thick - she basically stalks him back to Taishii’s place, and even at one point invites him back to her place. Even though they’re high schoolers, I’m not sure exactly what she meant by that but it does highlight a problem she has - as a reknown figure she can’t just walk into a public place and have a decent chat with a friend without getting noticed. During their meal, Kana says she’s trying to cut carbs - even at this age she’s been in this industry so long she’s already doing a whole Weight Watchers thing, and that’s kind of sad. She also makes the remark that the director is sponging off his parents… but there’s a reason she puts a hint of jealousy in it. Kana shows firsthand just how much shadiness there is in the industry - at first Aqua won’t do it, but when he hears who the producer is, he’s immediately in - and because Kana put in a word for him he’s immediately given the role, sight unseen. All the producer had to do was say “he has a pretty face.” Unfortunately, he’s also sending signals to Kana as well that he’s not actually aware of… this could get awkward. You mentioned before you felt that Aqua seemed shut off from everyone. I wouldn’t exactly call him that. Instead, he’s very pragmatic. He doesn’t waste his emotional effort needlessly. I would compare him somewhat to Ren from RWBY - quiet, keeps to himself, but has quite a bunch of motivation that drives him under the surface. To point out just how motivated and dedicated he is, imagine typing in numbers on a phone to try and crack the code one at a time for four years straight. He’s very hyper focused on this task, and what’s more he’s patient. His previous life as an adult has given him a lot of nuances most people his age don’t have. It seems Aqua is a bit aloof even from his own family - Ruby wouldn’t even have known what he was up to if Miyako hadn’t said something. Returning to a quick scene from earlier, Kana said she was fine and using her savings from a child actor but there was a ten second scene where she’s sitting on the floor in her own dorm, and there’s open containers that say “beans.” She’s putting on a good face in front of others, but the truth is she’s struggling to get by and doesn’t want people to know it. There’s definitely a lot of “peel back the curtain” when everyone scouts the series Aqua is cast in… also I can’t take credit for this, but someone pointed out that it’s nit easy for the voice actors for all these “models” to actually be good at doing everything wrong, it’s going against everything they’ve been taught. But that’s what this script called for. I also kind of appreciate the fact that Aqua had a shoujo manga in his room and nobody gave him any grief for it, Ruby just borrowed it. It seems that Kana kind of knows the hand she’s been dealt, she burnt a lot of bridges with her poor attitude as a kid, and is taking the long way back to what she hopes is a good career, but to do so, she’s got to put up with projects like these. What’s really sad is that not even an ounce of care is being given to the original source material here - we can use it to market our studs, is basically what the higher ups are thinking. Also, had to laugh when they said “when you cram fifty volumes into a six episode series, a lot of stuff is getting cut.” *Cough, Promused Neverland Season 2, Cough* - so sorry, something got in my throat. It’s interesting that Kana brings back the line about actors needing to be good communicators that Taishii told Aqua as a child - so she learned the lesson a little too late to do anything to fix her child behavior. But the main reason she wants Aqua is she knows he’ll actually try. The production schedule, rehearsal and setup is all a disaster area, and the Star is someone who’s hard to work with. The producer is only using Kana to market his guys, and she doesn’t even have an agency so they’re taking advantage of her name dirt cheap… basically she’s picking up scraps, and Aqua overhears the producer saying exactly what their intention is… however, since he’s got what he came for… he’s got a little experience with this role so why not throw something against the wall and see if it sticks? Oh, by the way, a lot of this episode is about Kana, I had a feeling you’d take an interest in her character quickly. Even more so, when I tell you that her seiyuu voiced Gon Freecs in Hunter x Hunter, and Penny Polendina in RWBY: Ice Queendom (yes, she’s the JP voice of your plushie.) I think you may find those two characters familiar… 😉 (I’ll give you the link for next week in my report on DMs later tonight.)

It’s too bad I’m not in this anime. I bring the whole package and I’m brunette. All grounds covered 😉 👍 🕴️🎭 🎬🕺🎥 📹 🗣️ It definitely is necessary to have talent but even people who have talent have to be trained. And personally I think the opposite applies. Even the trained can’t always use training as an excuse to say that they have talent. You kind of have to have a little of both plus experience of course. There’s a lot to learn even out of the actors square. I think the best thing for a thespian to do is to learn everything from setup to lighting to directing etc. They used to do that back in the day so that the actors could have an appreciation for what it is that others around the set do. Cause if you’re an actor temporarily wearing directors hat, you don’t have to worry about an actor you are directing walking 3 steps “this way” and picking this object up on this line, just because they feel like it. It’s so you don’t get a big head and don’t take anything personal because you’re all there to make the best work you can possible. It’s definitely a communication process.

Ahhh yes I actually watched it on my own when it came out! I didn't know if anyone would want me to react to it without having seen the anime. I've seen bits of the anime but I know it's really long and can probably be a bit harder to settle into than the live action in a lot of ways!

kamenriderhime

Hi Spadeas! :) I think you're right that Aqua is putting himself / living for himself out of his mind right now. Ruby wants to seize the day on the other hand. I'm loving Kana!! OHHHHH I love those dance videos hehe, thanks for sharing them! So fun when toku actors get in on these trends too! Ooohhh I haven't heard of Undead Unluck!!! I'd love to hear more!!!!

kamenriderhime

John - Ohhhh is that what she was referring to? I'm not sure if I caught that! Yeah it seems like there's a lot to love about him for Kana for sure. In a way, Aqua's done many roles just by living hasn't he? She can sense just how special he is, I agree.

kamenriderhime

Ahhhhhh that is a shame, I'd love to see Idol Manny!!!!!!!! That's the thing, it always takes a bit of a combo to really make it, you know? It really is important to be aware of every step of the process. That's so true, it's all about communication!!!

Leonie2003

Hi Melissa, sorry my comment is so late, but I didn't have time to check out your videos the last two days. But today I finally found the time. First of all, I would like to mention that I really like your outfit. I would also like a blouse like that. Now I come to the two episodes. I'd like to briefly mention that the opening of Oshi no ko is the third most played song of mine this year on my Spotify list. I didn't think I would have listened to it so often myself, but I really love this song. I can't do the famous choreography for it, but I came up with one myself, which I think is pretty good for my standards. What I like about the two episodes is that we get to know the characters better. We now see that Aqua is actually a very caring brother to Ruby, but is still very careful not to get her into trouble. I personally like Aqua a lot because he's a very interesting character. I don't like the way he's going about it, because he's ruling out Ruby's future careers, but he's a very smart guy who will probably manage to find out the identity of his father. I think Kana is one of my favorite characters from Oshi no ko, because in the beginning you totally misjudge her. You think she's a spoiled little brat who looks down on others and just wants to get her will. But inside, she's actually a very broken girl who has experienced too many bad things in this industry. I think it's nice to see that even if the acting isn't as good from the others, she still wants to try her hardest to get the best out of the work. I found it very interesting that they mentioned in the third episode that the live adaptation they're doing is very different from the manga, because that's what I'm seeing with certain anime this season, that they're deviating a lot from the anime and also putting things in that don't make sense. I always imagine how the author must feel when the work he has created is simply destroyed by other people. I'm already looking forward to more episodes, because it's going to get really, really interesting.

Hi Leonie!! No worries at all, you're not late! Awww thank you, I'm so glad you like my outfit!! I got these new tops from a site called Romwe with some of my birthday money. I wore the pink one this week in my JJK / Jojo reactions! Whoa, I can see why the Oshi no Ko theme song is one of your top played songs!!!! It's such a great one! Ooohhh that's awesome that you came up with your own choreography for it! (Narancia would be proud lol!) I agree, we really get to get to know them all over again now that they're older. Aqua's very sharp and even if his methods aren't always great, you can tell he loves his sister and wants to protect her. Yeah Kana is WAY different than I thought she'd be!! She's really putting in a lot of work here and has a great attitude. That's such a shame when things aren't adapted properly or faithfully!!! I'm glad they addressed that because it can be a big problem for us manga/anime fans. (Same with books and movies!) I can't wait to see more and I hope you love my reactions!!! ^_^

kamenriderhime

Ahhhhhh ouch, that one hurt!!!! Oh good to know about the translations! LOL Loli-senpai is a bit extreme :P Yeah I wasn't quite sure what was meant by some of Kana's....advances.....because she might not fully realize what she's saying. Oh I could see that about Aqua - he's playing it close to the vest when it comes to his actions. The amount of dedication for cracking that password was CRAZY!!! I agree, we're getting to see lots of behind the scenes stuff which is interesting. Also interesting that sometimes in order to give the right performance, you have to do things a little "wrong" to suit the other actors, writing, etc. Lol I love that Aqua got no grief for being into shoujo too! Sadly that's not something you see too often! I'm proud of Kana that she realizes her mistakes and is just putting in her best work every day. HAHAHAHA noooo not Promised Neverland!!! Don't remind me lol! The whole production is a mess for sure. I'm glad Aqua is here to raise the standards at least a little lol, even though he's actually here for a different reason. Whoaaaaa no kidding about the VA!!!!!!!!! AHHHHH PENNY!!!!! I mean, they're both sweeties, they're redheads, etc.!
