Hey everyone!  Here I am with the eighth ep of Oshi no Ko!!!!  WHOA!!!!  Not only does our crew absolutely kill it at the festival, but we set up all our other major plot points for moving forward, wow!!  First off I was so proud of Kana - once fans get to know her, they're gonna LOVE her!  It looks like we have another opportunity to get closer to some truth about Ai, in the form of acting alongside Akane again....but WOW, I didn't see it coming that Kana would be competing both in person and in character, and that she and Akane are real life rivals!!!!  This is gonna be interesting lol!  Can't wait for season 2!!  Great ep!  Enjoy!!!  ~ MH

Hi Hime :) Aqua taking Pieyon's place to help Kana and B Komachi is just cute of her. I also guessed it was him. But yes, the funny thing is that Kana plans to forget Aqua and starts to fall under the spell of Pieyon, who is actually Aqua. So if we put ourselves in Kana's head, she wanted to forget Aqua by falling for Aqua. That means she's really into him lol. Kana has truly found a new family with Aqua and Ruby, they are both there to support her and provide all the love she misses. Aqua doesn't necessarily show it, but we can see that he cares about her and Ruby, even if the start of their relationship was tense, he cares about Kana too. Honestly, it's one of the things I like most about this story. Ai was looking for the definition of love and found it with Aqua and Ruby, who were able to give it to her because they found it by being fans of her. Now we have Kana who is looking to be loved, and finds it thanks to Ruby and Aqua too. Aqua supporting all three with his glow sticks was fun but also showed, as Kana said, that he doesn't choose any of them specifically, so it's up to Kana to shine even more so that he chooses her. Miyako to the rescue, you said it too, but yes, like you, when I saw this episode I said "bravo mama" because it was finely played to rekindle the two. For the ending, it's just that usually, the first note of the intro was heard during the episode, whereas here we had them directly, so with additional scenes at the very beginning. For the theater with a lot of effects, it's actually stage play as you talked about, whether for the manga/anime adaptation (Naruto or even Spirited Away were adapted like that), but in your register, Kamen Rider or Ultraman are entitled to it too. Besides, how can we bring the two together ? JJK stage play, which brings together some Toku actors that you know. Yuji is for example played by Ryuji Sato (Zitt in Geats, the game master bringing destruction and who created the false Tsumuri), Gojo is played by Ryōsuke Miura (Ankh in KR OOO, never far in your page lol), or Geto, played by Rei Fujita (he played in OOO too, but I mainly know him for Zero in the Garo series). I'll leave you the link to a news from Crunchy so you can see their look: https://www.crunchyroll.com/news/latest/2022/4/13/jujutsu-kaisen-stage-play-unveils-main-visual-and-cast-members

Hey Melissa, we have now reached the end of oshi no ko and i have to say that it was a really good rewatch for me. i watched Ohsi no ko when it came out weekly and i thought the anime was pretty good then but watching the episodes with you again was a lot of fun. the First live performance of B-Komachi was very well done by the girls, the song was also pretty good. although i usually don´r like the very high voices of the characters. when Aqua did his little performance there i thought it was really cute of him. i can understand very well how Kana must feel when no one tells her what she did well and no one stands behind her to support her. I find it very worrying, especially with children, when not even the parents stand behind their own child and support them because I think that's the minimum parents should do. and you can see how that affects Kana's life now. She has a very low self confidence and is also very bad at accepting praise because she always remembers the negative internet comments. i hope in the future her perspective about herself will change a bit. i'm also very curious how the stage play will develop because i'm not familiar with the manga and everything that comes in season 2 is new to me. i've only seen a few manga snippets here and there but they are more out of context so i can't really place them. no real date has been released yet when season 2 will be released but i am very sure that it will be released in spring next year at the latest. until then we have to wait. Now i am super excited for next week because then you finally start with Vinland Saga S2. I'm really looking forward to your reaction to this. I think my comments to these episodes will be very long again.

On some level, it’s kind of a relief that this reaction series is ending fur just a bit, as there’s so many layers in each scene that it takes a long time to peel the onion, I’m pretty sure only my RWBY comments get the same amount of scrutiny. 😅 Interestingly enough, he starting spot for this episode is with “what others are saying about it,” and other than MEM’s hardcore followers, one group only noticed them because of one girl’s appearance, and another got dragged over because of MEM’s followers, but just happened to be a fan of the original group. It kind of shows you the viral nature and the elasticity of word of mouth and how it can catch fire quickly. The older guy is skeptical, because he only hears “dating show,” and “internet celebrity,” as well as storm of criticism… Apparently, it’s a thing to have your own color glow stick to show your support, so whatever you wave means you’re a fan of that particular individual. It’s interesting that Kana chooses white, as it’s “naturally viewed” as a special color, so people argue over who gets it - which also reiterated that this group is much more in sync with each other than a lot are. As the performance Carrie’s on, the older fan is pretty skeptical…that is, until Ruby pulls a trademark glance at him, and that’s all it takes. She may not have the same level of talent, but she still has the “it” factor - she is AI’s daughter, after all. Kana is actually jealous of (it’s a bit strange to say this), Ruby’s youthful energy and enthusiasm - she hasn’t been burned by the industry and culture like Kana has. What she’s really looking for is for someone to actually believe in her, like you said, her support system has dried up on all fronts, some by her own hand, some by the industry, but she desperately wants someone to notice her work. She’s looking for affirmation that it’s okay for her to exist. The answer, comes on the form of Aqua, who of course, sets off all sorts of different emotions inside her, but it should be noted he’s waving all three of the glow stick colors, and not playing favorites - but he’s also the only one who brought a white glow stick to begin with. Kana decides to “dye everyone’s glow sticks white” at this point, so in a way, he actually gave her the motivation she wanted - it just didn’t come in the form she was expecting it to (it rarely does.) Even the audience picks up that Kana brightened up during the second song when Aqua showed up. Miyako is either a genius or perhaps one of the most evil people on the planet, she likes to stir the pot. She casually lets the conversation slip in the car to Aqua and Akane. On Aqua’s end, it’s a work relationship and he confirms as much. MEM notices the change in Kana’s demeanor and starts to put it together - but doesn’t know who she’s rooting for. Long story short, MEM is the majority of the show’s audience. Akane has gotten a role offer in the meantime - so you were asking about this during the reaction, recall that after all the drama that went down with Akane on the dating show, MEM and some of the others realized that Akane was actually getting to Aqua for real because of her impersonation, and asked her dead on if she wanted to pursue a actual relationship with him. She said she was really interested in dating him if he was into it. She accepted his “proposal” but in truth, she’s interested in their “work dating” becoming something more, but for now, she’s taking what she can get. So they’re both totally into him, he’s just not actively pursuing either of them. Kana wants a direct answer from Aqua about why he disguised himself as Pieyon, and he’s not wrong about pretending to be someone different in order to get her to feel comfortable. Kana naturally runs with this to the point even Aqua starts to get a little fed up with her. The other two girls look on with amusement, but Ruby is glad someone is at least getting a rise out of him, since he’s usually so somber. He’s been through a lot since his childhood. MEM is currently weighing the scales on who’s further up the food chain between Kana and Akane. Kaburagi has been approached about a popular manga getting a 2.5D stage adaptation, and it apparently has a huge budget. The producer is already contracting with Lala Lai, but he needs more young talent, which the company doesn’t have much of, so he appeals to the producer - because favor trading is done in this industry. Kaburagi knows exactly who he wants, but the argument is over who is getting more out of the deal, the actor or the production. The general consensus is it’s a good deal for both parties, and so, Aqua gets the role. Akane and Aqua are doing an Instagram photo shoot on a work date, so the subject naturally comes up. They are playing two lovers in the story. Akane talks about the different aspects of the story and how it appeals to different audiences. One of the chief plot lines is who Aqua’s character will end up with, the character being played by Akane… or… as it turns out the rival in the story has been cast by Kana, who just “happened to be in the neighborhood,” because Akane was posting the photos in real time as opposed to scheduling them to go up later. This seems a little bit suspicious that she was actually just in the neighborhood… 👀 It doesn’t take long for Aqua to pick up on some seriously hostile vibes between Akane and Kana as they throw barely contained barbs at each other. Akane tosses a comment about Kana being an idol while she comments on Akane being on a dating show… the anime glare actually is rather funny. After Kana leaves, Akane admits she can’t get along with Kana because of their past - no matter how hard she worked, the roles she always wanted were being given to Kana. Recall earlier in the episode how Aqua got the role - the same thing was done to Kana as a child countless times, no matter how hard Akane tried. It’s interesting to think about how both of them dealt with online criticism over the course of the show, as well - Kana buried her feelings behind a mask so nobody would notice, while Akane took the criticism so personally she almost took her own life. It’s a frightening juxtaposition when you think about it. It’s also brilliant storytelling. The producer is overjoyed that he’s gotten all of these actors on the same stage, because he is fully aware that Kana and Akane already have a history and it’ll translate well to the production. Although he has no idea just HOW well they’re cast yet… Aqua is using the opportunity to investigate Akane’s company, and meanwhile, both Kana and Akane will be working as hard as they can… both onstage and off… to get Aqua’s attention. Move over Twilight fans, the whole Jacob/Edward argument wasn’t anywhere close to this interesting. Welcome to the largest ship war of 2023, because it’s LITERALLY Red vs. Blue! 😂 😂 😂 I, of course, am supporting my daughter. 😁 So I know I’ve been pestering you to watch this show for like half a year since it came out, glad you finally watched it. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I hoped you would. When the show came out, HiDive rose from a niche platform to now it’s considered one of the lead anime streaming platforms along with Crunchyroll and Hulu, the number of subscribers they got overnight basically was record setting. Just like the show itself has been saying forever, timing is everything, and if it’s the ship war turned stage production, or it’s the show’s commentary being inspired or inspiring actual events, or the show itself proving its points, life imitates art, and it imitates life, and the cycle never stops. Until Season 2, then. By the way… based on the way they set this up, get your popcorn, this is going to be quite the show, and I can’t wait. 👀😅

It definitely made me very happy when Aqua held Kana's WHITE glowstick high and enthusiastically first. He then went into his glowstick dance routine like when he was a toddler....but it also caused a chain reaction in the audience, with more and more of them producing and waving the white glow stick too, where Kana could see them. It lifted her spirit and she gave the 2nd song her all....knowing she too has fans....enough to move even the OG fans of the OG B-Komachi....the old timer made eye contact with Ruby and was instantly smitten, producing twin red glow sticks almost by reflex!

You are correct the ending sequence is slightly different in the beginning for this finale; there are new and different frames that are shown in sequence before the main end titles begin rolling. They are a foreshadowing of events to come in Sn.2, is my best guess.

MEM realizing belatedly that Kana is in love with Aqua is so cute & funny.

Manny

Yes, mom!!!! 👏

kamenriderhime

Awww that was sweet right! I loved seeing him do the dance, and boy was it infectious too! Love the chain reaction of Kana getting more into it too. Ruby's got that same spark, even the OG fans know it!!!

kamenriderhime

Hey Leonie!! I'm so glad you enjoyed rewatching it through my reactions!!! The show went so well, didn't it? I loved Aqua's dance too haha. Awww I'm sorry, I know, it was so sad to see Kana go through that :( So true that everyone deserves the bare minimum of feeling love and support from their family at least. I was so sad for her, the way she's internalized others' opinions of her. I hope her perspective changes too! I'm so curious about the stage play! I'm sure we'll have to wait for a bit since season 1 is so recent. Vinland Saga season 2, here we come!!!!!!!!! XD XD XD

kamenriderhime

Hi Spadeas! :) I know, I absolutely love what Aqua did!! Good guess! LOL isn't that funny that she was getting over Aqua by falling for Aqua....she must really be in love! I love that Kana's found new family/support/friends with Ruby and Aqua. OMG that's so true, Ai found love with them, and so did Kana, who's also been searching for it! The glow sticks scene was amazing! Kana's got good motivation to give her all to the audience now. Oh no kidding about the ending! Ohhh ok, I figured it was something like that type of stage play! OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Everyone looks AMAZING in the new JJK play!!! OMG Ankh, Jitt!!!! I'm dying over here, that's amazing haha!!

kamenriderhime

That's so true, as much as I miss it, it's nice to have some time to reflect! So true about how word of mouth spreads like wildfire. That's true that it's implied that the group is very in sync based on how they treat the glow stick situation! Haha Ruby's got that it factor alright, even hardcore veteran fans can't resist! I think you're right that Kana values the kind of enthusiasm that Ruby has, it's a sort of innocence that she doesn't have anymore sadly. I love that she's finally getting a support system, and Aqua with the glow sticks was just amazing! Haha MEM is totally us for real! Oh that's true, I'd forgotten about that conversation about Akane and Aqua going out. Like at this point he definitely has the two girls willing to go out with him for real, they're just not doing anything about it lol. That's true that Kana actually gets to him a little bit! Hahaha no way was Kana actually just in the neighborhood come to think of it lol!!! Ohhh yeah good call that a lot of the role decisions are very political, which makes sense that maybe that had something to do with Akane not getting the roles she wanted. So true that the two girls really faced a lot of the same issues when it comes to public/online bullying, but handled it in different ways. It really is brilliant storytelling! HAHAHAHAHA OMG RED VS BLUE!!!!!!!!!!! Well, you have to support family, I get it :P I'm so glad I got to check this out too! And so cool that it gave rise to a whole new anime platform!!! Crunchyroll's got some competition, and competition is usually really good for the customers!!! OMG I'm getting my popcorn ready now haha!!!

crazizzle85

Oshi no ko s2 wait is difficult. These characters are so complicated. They'll frustrate you as much as you cheer for them lol. Speaking of music shows, have you seen bocchi the rock? I think you'd love it.

kamenriderhime

I know right!!! It's gonna be a long wait! I actually LOVE Bocchi the Rock! I watched it on my own, I didn't react to it, which I regret now lol but it's such a good show!
