Hey everyone!  Here it is - my reaction to season 2, episode 11 of Vinland Saga!  OMG!!!  You guys, I knew our stories were gonna intersect, but this is just like too much to be a coincidence!  Leif has apparently been collecting children named Thorfinn like they're Pokemon, and he happens to run into Olmar and Ketil when they come to visit Harald (or Canute, as they find out upon arrival).  Also Olmar honey, nooooo!!  I don't know where this is headed but from the sounds of Canute's plans, it doesn't sound good!!!  Great ep!  Enjoy!  ~ MH

So, I’ll start this particular comment with a definition: “requisition” is to demand the official use or supply of, especially by official order or the military. It was a common practice in these times - because, not only does Canute need funds, he also has an army he has to feed. Food doesn’t make itself, you know. Canute isn’t the strongest fighter - but he is a sharper tool than most of them. Because one of the best ways to distract a man is to point out the woman he has an interest in is talking to somebody else. Apparently, Harald died before Ketil left for Jelling. Whether or not Thorgil knew this before leaving and failed to mention it to his father, is unclear - hence the reaction. Olmar is one if those characters that just can’t help but get into trouble. In fact, you probably could say a decent amount of wars start with someone acting like him. He’s - well, he’s kind of what Thorfinn might’ve grown up to be if he hadn’t left with Thors and saw him die - it is just the mindset of the time. Of course, Thirfinn 2 (he asked that everyone call him “Bug-Eyes”) isn’t nearly as different from S1 Thorfinn either. 😅 But it sounds like Leif’s search has gone on so long the rest of his crew have had more than enough of it. Given who Canute’s VA is, it’s kinda full circle seeing him sitting on the throne, isn’t it. Also, I should point out Thorgil was just as surprised as Ketil that he was allowed to have an audience as quickly as he did. Olmar’s plot might’ve accidentally put everyone else in a pretty tough position. Canute is expertly moving pieces on a game board, and when he finds one that will give him an advantage… that being said the pig scene was just a bit sad… I guess we won’t ever say he was able to bring home the bacon. Too soon? You said this is GoT-ish, but really it’s the opposite. A lot of shows like that one have their origins deep in this kind of history. And to pull a reference: what is the most valuable thing a man can possess in that world? His heir. This problem is just getting started.

Right, I get that this has a very sound/practical aspect especially for this time, which just makes the whole thing even trickier. Canute is indeed very clever and makes up for his physical strength with that. Right, I wasn't clear on Thorgil's knowledge/role but apparently Ketil had no idea what happened until he got there. Olmar is just attracted to trouble lol. Oof, kind of a scary thought about the war thing. Bug Eyes lol!!! That's true, he's a lot like early Thorfinn hehe. OMG I'm so glad I'm not the only one getting Giorno vibes! HAHAHA nooooo not the bring home the bacon pun!!!!! I agree that it's a little sad. That's an interesting perspective on how this is actually different from GoT too. Oh boy, I'm really in for it, aren't I!!!

I love this episode but it is very intense & anxiety Inducing. This is a good fight scene with Wulf & Canute because it has great character stuff. His sister seems really sweet so it’s not surprising that violence scares her. I love how is sister knows Canute well enough to be able to tell how much this fight is causing him pain which goes back to how he hates violence but at this point as we see later he believes that power/strength is the only he will be able to accomplish his goals in this harsh world/society. I think it’s awesome to see that Canute has improved a lot when it comes to battle as well as the way he uses mind games because of how it fits his character. I like that we have a little silly moment with Wulf reacting to his King’s provocation before we get into the serious stuff. It makes sense that Canute would need money after so much fighting/war with England is especially if he wants to build a utopia. I think the comment about part of a ruler’s job is to find ways to avoid unrest interesting because it’s kinda true to life in the present as well. As soon he started talking about needing more money I had a bad feeling it was somehow going to involve the farm because of the hints of the two stories of this season intersecting last episode. And it’s a good plan with relatively little risks considering how much absolute power royalty/leaders had in that time period. Also there is something like this even today with stuff like imminent domain laws I think they are called in America. I think this is a good way to give states to the story to have him pick Ketil’s farm when we have become so attached to Thorfinn & Einar and the people who care about them/who they care about on the farm. Also Sverkel talked about how too much wealth was a bad thing and this is a direct example of that because if Ketil’s farm wasn’t so wealthy a different farm might have been chosen by Canute. It’s not surprising that Ketil would jump at the opportunity to get on someone else’s good side to protect his farm since he has a lot of fear of danger/threats. It’s nice that Thorgil has some faith in his brother but Ketil understands his son better LOL. All of the antics with Olmar & bug eyes are hilarious. Olmar’s ridiculous pose is just the funniest thing LMAO. I love how Ketil & Olmar have a very realistic father/son relationship. And talking about stories coming together Leif Erickson is here being the best father figure/foster father. It says a lot about his kindness that L found another slave named Thorfinn in his search & something in him wasn’t able to leave the boy in slavery. It makes me sad that Leif has gotten his hopes up only for those hopes to be dashed so often that his coworkers are not willing to go along with anymore wild goose chases. Everything about the scene starting with them about to enter the room was filled with ominous lines like Thorgil not knowing why this only happened so fast Ketil talking about how amazing his products are & Canute asking what felt like to me very pointed questions about the farm. I just felt bad for Olmar who desperately wants to prove himself is unable to do so in what must be a very embarrassing moment for someone like him. I love how Thorgil says someone like Olmar is completely unpredictable & it immediately switches to Canute saying that he will act the way they want him to because from just one interaction Canute completely understands Olmar. I didn’t know what Canute meant by using Olmar but I knew it had to be bad news. It’s probably a good thing there was a good amount of comedy in this episode with how serious things are getting. Awesome reaction & thoughts. Keep up the great work. :-) <3

This was such a great one! It was really interesting to see things like how Canute has evolved and adapted, to put it lightly lol, as well as his sister. She's so sweet! No kidding that there's even rules similar to this in modern day America!!! It does make sense that they'd be low on funds after all the fighting and whatnot. Oh that's so true that they'd already said how well Ketil's farm is doing! They really did get us attached to the farm didn't they. LOL I think you're right that Ketil understands Olmar a bit better! The pose haha!! I loved seeing Leif and as a foster dad no less! It really does say a lot about him doesn't it? I know, you can really feel the tension starting to rise right. I'm so happy you enjoyed my reaction!!! Sorry it's been taking me so long to write back!!! I really appreciate all your kindness and support :)
