Hey everyone!  Here it is - my reaction to episode 20 of Frieren!  Oh man!  I was so freaked out for Wirbel at the beginning haha, and when I thought Fern had actually killed someone....!!!
It's a good thing she knows all of Frieren's tricks - and to be honest, that's worth so much more than flashy magic.  That being said, I kinda like Wirbel and Ehre, and seeing his backstory definitely made me soften up to him a bit more!  He really didn't want to kill unless he had to.  Ubel on the other hand, seems like she would be totally into it :/  And I knew Denken seemed shady, but it seems even he has his standards.  And WHOA!!!  What's all this about Serie?!!?!  Is Serie another elf?!  That's certainly what it looks like!!!!  I'm SO curious to know more!  Great ep!  Enjoy!  ~ MH

I’ll start this by pointing out a lot of these names seem to have a German pronunciation - so it is not uncommon to see a W but hear a V sound (example: Lawine is La-veen.) It’s not 100% the case all the time though. I’ve stayed this before, but Fern once again is showing when it comes to what Frieren has taught her, she’s quite a sponge. She not only attacks in the same manner, she also used the same spell to capture her party’s Stille - and she also pulled off the cold blooded killer act with a straight face, while having no intention to do so. The title is referring more of course, to the dialogue between Wirbel and Übel (the green haired mage.) Necessary killing is something you have to do but it’s truly a judgment call. Which is why he didn’t want to go through with it. This week, this show is bleeding into Vinland Saga’s thematic license, lol. I think the ironic thing about what happens to Wirbel’s group is that they spend all this time and energy trying to screw over someone else when all they needed was some actual patience. Speaking of patience, Denken’s group is choosing to pick up where Wirbel’s left off - and it seems he’s put two and two together about Frieren - while they both share similar ideals and philosophies they have party members who don’t. Richter in particular seems far too eager to engage in some of that unnecessary killing. It seems first class mage is not just a title, but gaining the title will grant you a spell of your choosing from Serie, who is stated to be a living grimoire - and knows just about every spell in existence. Obviously this would be of great interest to Frieren. As far as how the test is being administered, and the rules thereof, that’s more being left up to the mage society. They’re basically running this kind of like the DGP in Kamen Rider Geats. Serie is just the one holding the prize and doesn’t pick how they earn it. It seems that raising g half the test area is kind of disturbing on afternoon tea isn’t it? :P

I have to remember not to underestimate Fern. She handles herself extremely well.

Good call on the pronunciation!! Fern really does soak up info like a sponge. She was able to pull off that ice cold act no problem! OMG for real, like VS called, they want their life lessons back :P LOL that is kinda true about Wirbel's group, all that work trying to cheat someone else out of their bird for nothing since they randomly found one anyway! Yeah Denken's group is not all on the same page about the killing thing. Frieren's gonna be real curious about Serie and all the spells right. OMG this is starting to get such DGP vibes!!! Hahaha this is making for a most noisy tea time :P
