Uh uh. I’m on S15 as of Dec. 2023 and Family Remains *remains*haha the f-ing scariest, most hauntingly lingering episode to date. Something about feral humans, esp trapped in their own home. noooo. no. No. Thats why i skipped Barbarian. Uh uh aint f-ing w that

I really hated this episode. Still do. Very un-supernatural. Not sure what Krip was thinking!

Toasted Toad

There’s a big problem with the picture in your review section. It’s all flickering and green

thereelrejects

Thanks for letting me know. Im gonna re-export it. It wasn't doing that earlier. for some reason the whole post is messed up

Jani Salminen

Thought some supernatural stuff was going on in that review

It’s been forever since i’ve seen this episode and i forgot most of it, so watching this again was a pleasant surprise! The way they shot this was wonderful, putting the actors and the camera inside the walls and under the house was so claustrophobic and stressful lol. Plus the entire story essentially happening in one location, on one night, made everything seem so urgent, like there was no room or time to breathe. As far as one offs go, this is really a great one.

Toasted Toad

I thought you’d like this one (maybe I’m getting more familiar with your tastes now, but I can still often be wrong!). Personally, I’m not keen on it because it’s simply not Supernatural. Like the Benders, they are just humans. Other programmes do this stuff - I don’t need it here, even if it’s done well. Not even Dean’s horrendous confession at the end redeems it for me. I would say that this one is actually one of the few you could actually skip and miss nothing except for the last minute.

I love the moment where the girl crosses the salt circle, it's so surprising and the audience is by now so used to the fact that the salt circle means safety and she just walks across it.

Steve Rivera

Yeah this episode is quite creepy. When she's standing in the brush really freaked me out when I first saw it. And that moment when she walks through the salt line is so well done.

thereelrejects

Aw, fun!! I always find it nice to be able to see an episode with fresh eyes. And couldn't agree more re: the style & overall tension. Funny how the "human" episodes can be some of the most unsettling 😅😰

thereelrejects

Yipe haha, looks like we're going to have to start rearranging our cinematic tastebuds to keep things interesting 😝 bummed we don't share the love for this episode (and the Benders), but I can respect where you're coming from. Though I thought the episode justified itself well enough, it is more.. extraordinary than supernatural. Dean's confession is pretty tough, though. 😓 Human horror tends to be the most unsettling to me (John), so I think that's also part of why I found it so effective. Still hits the horror square on target, even if it's not actually something supernatural. Hopefully this week we'll be more eye-to-eye!

thereelrejects

Ugh, right?? Nice way to toy with our expectations and make all our stomachs plummet the second that salt line breaks 😅

thereelrejects

Oh god haha, that moment in the brush was great. Even though there's a sound cue, it's one of those where your brain has to realize for a second what it's looking at and when you see her.. ugh 😱 very creepy episode!

I actually have to disagree with you Toasted Toad. I think the episode was likely used to compliment what is going on with Dean, and for that, I like it. I'm not as good at words as you and some others, so I can't really explain my reasoning.

Michele

Sorry I'm late to the comment party. Takes me a bit longer since I don't have internet at home right now and none for the foreseeable future. Anyway - I really enjoy your comments after each episode. I like how you are respecting the show and the effort they put in to making it interesting and their willingness to mix things up. I'm glad you really liked this episode. It was so fun to watch you guys get freaked out., and you seem to totally understand what the writer was trying to convey in this episode. I guess I'm going to be agreeing with you on this episode too. It was pretty creepy/scary, and I think it was because of it being humans. Well written and handled episode that could have gone pretty wrong. There are a few things that could be picked apart as flaws, but the flow and presentation kept that at bay when watching the first time through. The writer/director combo is good for this episode too. And then they had good, experienced, character actors playing the family. And the creepy brother and sister were good too. eek. It is really more unsettling with humans as the MOTW. I'm sure there's some psychological explanation that could be made, but no need to go into that. It just is. And then we get more info about Dean's time in Hell. ugh - that hurts. Dean was likely on his way to losing his humanity. What was happening to him there was what was going to end up turning him into a demon. I found it sad to realize, yet valid. One thing that really started to sink in to me when I watched this season for the first time was how much our boys had changed from how they were in season 1. And how much larger their little world had gotten. This is a bit sad, but also pretty cool. Sad because I know that Dean seemed to actually be happy with the MOTW. Hunting with his dad or brother. Life was much simpler back then. And for me, a Dean girl, I missed that cocky, care free, Dean from season 1. But I was totally on board with this Dean. Sorry for the long comment. I do this sometimes. I'll try better next time. P.S. I'm sure there's likely been a lot of discussion on posting highlights vids to youtube, but that is what spurred my desire to join your Patreon. I heard about you from Toasted already, but the few teaser videos you posted reacted to SPN got me really keen to see more. I made it a priority to join as soon as I could. More videos sprinkled to youtube could get you even more patrons.

No trouble at all! Sorry to hear you're without internet!! 😫and no worries about the length haha. Sometimes the longer ones take me/us a little while to get back to (which I'm also working on haha), but I really appreciate the level of passion & enthusiasm you guys bring to the discussion as well as the fascinating tidbits y'all enlighten us with. Even when we rib or joke, we always try to keep it respectful since we've grown to really love the show & we know how much you guys do as well. It's one of the things I look forward to shooting most each week. Really happy you're enjoying both the reactions and the discussions! :) Definitely feel you re: the passage of time here. It's funny, since we started the show, we've barely stopped (at least on our weekly interval), but especially coming back after a little break for the New Year and looking back, it really does feel like the boys have come a loooong way since those initial episodes. Love the way the show has grown, tonally, and especially with where we're at as of S4 (and with Dean beginning to really open up these past few episodes) I can definitely feel that sorta world-weary sadness underneath the boys as well. Both of them have had some doozies to work through, but I agree, it does kinda hit you in the heartstrings in a particular way to see Dean wrestling with such anguish. Literally as I'm typing this I'm further realizing how much darker things have gotten for these two over time. Gahh.. And glad you dug this episode! I know it's not everyone's flavor, but I personally love the couple detours we've had into extraordinary *human* horror. I'm a horror/creature junkie, but the human stuff tends to rattle my bones the most, deep down. And funny enough, we actually just shot another SPN reaction for YouTube today! Not an episode like the XMas one we put up, but a very amusing collection of convention anecdotes from Jared, Jensen, & Misha. Excited for that one to go up! These days we've got the bloopers going up on YouTube to help promote at the end of each season, but I'm sure there'll be more. Anyhow - we really, really appreciate you joining us. And glad you've already got some mates here as well! Toasted is definitely one of our top SPN peeps here, so that means a lot. Hope you continue to enjoy and aren't too hindered by the internet!! Before ya know it, it'll be Saturday and time for the next stream!

Toasted Toad

Nonsense - you're perfectly good with words. Modesty does not become you! I know what you mean, but I think it's a flimsy excuse. We already got the point last episode; Dean feels bad and hates himself right now (even more than his usual self esteem issues - poor little sausage!).

Toasted Toad

Oooh, I thought you were going to wait until the end of the season for RL stuff! I'll send you a couple of short classics when Season 4 is done which you can either react to or just watch for your own amusement.

Michele

Thanks so much for that reply! I appreciate the effort it takes to keep a channel going and in trying to keep viewers "happy". While I may be disappointed if you don't like something I like, I would rather you be honest in your comments, so I appreciate that you are honest. I enjoyed your last reaction to the convention edit video, so I'll be looking forward to the next one. I have so many videos collected and BTS tid bits, but don't want to flood you with things.

AdoptDontShopPets

I like this episode a lot. It’s like a great 80’s mini-horror movie. And Dean’s reveal at the end is shocking (and understandable), to say the least.

Chaos T

This episode reminds me of the X-Files episode "Home".
