There is a subtle parallel between Jay and Charlie (whom Jay refers to as his brother) and Sam and Dean. One "brother" working with dark forces and what will be the consequence of that, to the conversation of will Sam and Dean actually get to grow old. After watching this episode I remember thinking Jay's last scene could have been directed at Dean.

Yeah, Barry Bostwick was on Spin City, but more importantly, he played BRAD to Susan Sarandon’s JANET in The Rocky Horror Picture Show ❤️

Charlie died because Jay did his card trick where he planted a card in the other person's pocket. He put "The Magician" card in Charlie's pocket, so when he stabbed himself, Charlie was the one injured. That's why Charlie pulled the card out of his pocket just before he died.

Ahh, that's a good catch! Hadn't thought about it at the time, but yeah, sorta seems like Jay is a cautionary tale for Dean (in some ways) and Charlie is cautionary for Sam.. Did enjoy the way they brought that up between Sam & Dean - actually considering the future and what life might be life if they're lucky enough to live a long time..

2021-07-15 04:56:10 That part mostly made sense, yeah. I think we were mainly confused by the logistics of older Charlie "dying" during the table trick and then returning in young form. Unless that was purely some sort of ruse to throw Sam & Dean off the scent?

They said Charlie had a book full of spells called the grimoire or something so I don't think it was all spells focused on cards. The being young spell probably came from the book. He said he was hundreds of years old.
