I probably agree that the pacing of the ep was faster than usual and it felt out of character . Just seemed like the show wanted to set up the end fight for Gon and end on a cliffhanger. I also think you made that connection too, that the 3 guys that appeared and looked disfigured because first time they experienced nen without any kind of defenses so they had to price to pay. As for horror vibes , i feel like hxh does that once in a while even back in hunter exam when Gon was hunting Hisoka or the whole snakes cave . Visually i would also agree, that it improved and just has more visual flair and imagery .

2021-07-15 04:55:29 Glad we're not crazy on this one haha. That's a good point, I s'pose it does compact the stakes - they gain access to the 200th floor at the last minute & immediately get put into a fight. Certainly makes for the cliffhanger there. I think Greg probably hit that nail with the 3 challengers haha, but it makes a lot of sense. Especially on the heels of Wing's lesson, I probably should'a grabbed that quicker 😅 Nen ain't nothin' to fuck with!! I always enjoy when the show flirts with horror. Helps to drive home the underlying, unpredictable, deadly nature of the world we're in. Definitely remember some of those vibes with Hisoka & the snake cave. Anything with Illumi/Gittarackur changing forms 😱 Still, though. Really enjoying how the show is growing overall, both technically and in the story. HxH has probably been the most gradual acclimation process of all the current shows, but I've come to really look forward to it each week.

I think while long shows have more issues than most shorter stuff. Most notably lower productiion values, filler and awful pacing . But with good writing that gradual transition, be it visually or characters maturing is one of the better things , with longer shows . And it also feels like a journey and any accomplishments made by our characters feel much more earned

That makes sense. They both have their strengths and weaknesses, but I imagine it's probably that much easier to notice in a long-form show when something happens really quickly or feels truncated. I think the journey/accomplishments angle is pretty cool, though. Being able to live with your characters more thru a longer-form show.

My comment's years behind again, but just felt like adding to discussion of the pacing here. You talked about them hurrying over the training with Wing. Don't forget that Gon has jumped the gun. He was told by Wing that he needed two months' training before he would know enough to fight. Instead, he has gone in half-arsed, with only the most basic knowledge of defence (just enough to get past Hisoka's barrier) and no attack capacity at all. In other words, Gon is being an idiot!
