I always laugh so much during the first part of this episode while their parodying Twilight. Agree that's it's their best vampire episode so far and loved the lore about the Alpha and how he communicates with his "children". Your reaction to Sam's smirk was perfect! I was stunned/pissed the first time I saw it. Glad you guys are enjoying the mystery of Sam and Samuel. Also, BAMF hunter Dean taking out an entire nest on his own and not drinking. Lastly, while I like Lisa and Ben, and I want Dean to be happy, I also agree that he can't just keep popping up in their lives with his issues. In the end I don't see it being healthy for her and Ben. Plus, I never once saw her make Dean a pie😝

Great discussion. I love this episode. Obviously, we're all still holding back on the various reveals of the season, but you clearly can already see why we were saying at the beginning  that a lot of this season looks better when you look back at it with the context you get from later knowledge. Things that you didn't like in the opening episodes become different from the viewpoint of what you learn later (although I still don't think the first couple of episodes were executed all that well). Like you say, both Jensen and Jared putting in excellent performances here. The Vamps' mistake always tickles me this episode - they took the best Hunter and turned him into a Vamp, thus making him supercharged - and them took him into their nest. Whoops! He kills 'em all! I don't know whether Jared knew what was going on with his character. I think the actors don't normally know very much in advance. He might have just been told something vague, like "something's up with Sam", or they might have said something more specific, because they did know where they were going with him (at least, in outline). For a while, I thought "Why didn't Dean just tell Lisa what was going on? If he had explained to her that he was turning into a vampire and that was why he had to leave so fast, and he pushed Ben out of his way to save him, she would have understood him". But then I realized no - if she found that he had come home despite being a vampire, putting them in terrible danger, could she forgive him?

Hahaha poor Dean-o 😂 I’m afraid he’ll go the rest of his un/super-natural life without every knowing a home-baked pie made with love. And true that, he did manage to keep it together enough to go GOD MODE lol. This actually got me looking forward to more vamps down the line. Good stuff!!

I will state this vaguely so no spoilers. I remember Jared (or maybe Sera) saying new showrunner Sera Gamble told him what the story thread was going to be for Sam, and then Jared was able to figure out how he wanted to play it. So while I cannot remember his exact words, it had to be at the start of the season or very likely may have been earlier in hiatus between the seasons so he could figure out what he wanted to do with what will eventually come to light.
