I find Bakugo a really interesting character. The way you would expect him to be written is as a stupid bully, bulldozing through on simple power. The surprise was that, as we learned very early on, he's actually very intelligent, both academically and quick witted in a fight. He doesn't seem to bully anymore (well, I think he only ever seemed to bully Midorya despite the fact that Midoriya seems to have hero worshipped him), but his attitude is still "me first". He wants to be the best, to be number one, but doesn't seem to have the other part that Midoriya does - i.e. the actual wanting to save people part. But this exercise required him to look after his teammates. It wouldn't help him to 'win' if his teammates were all captured. So as usual, he was just recognizing the nature of the exercise. I don't know if it was character growth at all.
