Yes! Finally you got to this episode! I love the episodes when they are working on the trials, very well done in my opinion. I'm so happy you guys liked it!!

I also really liked this episode when it first aired. Partly it was due to relief after the previous episodes. I did hate that we lost Benny though, after so little time with him. I felt that so much more could have been done with him and I loved scenes between him and Dean. Why can't Dean ever have just friends? The ease with which someone could get into Hell took me back a bit. I wanted to know if the angels used that when they went in to rescue Dean. If not, then they should have! You'd think they'd know about it if Reaper's were using it. Or maybe not. How quickly Sam found Bobby was also a notable, but I figured that they'd have to cut some corners to fit it into one episode. You mentioned making it into 2 episodes is a good point. They could have done that very easily, since the previous couple episodes were just MOTW and not needed. Jensen always kills it with his acting. Put him up against another really good character actor and you get magic. I hoped we'd get Benny back at some point. I was pissed that Bobby had spent so long in Hell. Over a year, which would be about 160 years in Hell. Good thing he was still sane. And his door was open? So many questions. They really need to get moving, because there are only a few episodes left.

Yeah, sometimes it is hard to figure out the balance between liking "monster of the week" episodes and craving "overarching cannon" episodes with the show. I completely agree that getting Benny back this episode, just to push him out, was really hard to watch. Especially since, Dean really doesn't get many stable people to lean on. All of the characters felt completely in their element with this one.

Toasted Toad

There's part of me that thinks this episode could have been a two parter, but I think it might also have led to it dragging. They don't have enough budget for a spectacular hell, so even an longer version would not have extended that sequence. I guess we have to assume that Bobby was on the outskirts of Hell as he was "illegally" nabbed by Crowley, whereas Dean went to Hell under the "rules" so could have been much further in. I call it Jared's "forehead acting"! Sometimes he reverts to it and it's my least favourite, but he will get some spectacular (IMO) acting later. Naomi is played by Amanda Tapping. I know her from SG-1, where she played Carter for about 10 years. She was also on a show called Sanctuary which co-starred Christopher Heyerdahl (Alistair)!
