We are making a shift in the way the Weekly RFR and the After Show audio podcasts will be distributed on Patreon. We will still post links to the shows here when they go live, but it will take you to our main RSS feed instead of us posting the audio files individually here.

The reason we are doing this is because our main feed needs hits and we are actually hurting our ourselves by additionally posting the show here. In the early days, it didn't matter. But now, our Patreon community is sizable enough to make a difference on our bottom line when it comes to hits. Also, with 2 shows a week, the Early Bird releases will not be possible anymore. We now basically only have time to record the show then immediately prep for public release. There is no downtime and the window for early bird releases is closed.

So please subscribe to the RFR Main Feed on whatever podcast service you use. This will give you two RFR feeds, one for Patreon (where all the exclusives will continue to drop) and the RFR main feed, where you'll get the weekly show and After Shows. Again, this will have no impact on RFR Q&A, Babu Freaks, RFR RPG, etc. All RFR Patreon exclusive podcasts will continue to be released here. And we will always post a link to the main shows when they drop so everyone can still converse about the episodes.

Does this make sense to y'all? Does anyone have any questions, concerns, etc? Let's discuss! Please let me know in the comments below!

I already use the RSS link so I should be good, yes?

Justin B

Makes total sense. Thank you for the heads up!

Cameron Gore

So is this only for people who listened to the shows in the Patreon app? Because I've been using the rss feed that I got when I signed up in my Podcatcher

SteelDiver

So does that mean no more ad free shows?

Craig Wehr

I have always preferred to download an mp3 to listen to butt I can adjust if needed

zillobeast

Cool do we get a free pair of meundies!for having to listen to that advert!!! No probs at all Cheers

Adam Taylor

You need to subscribe to the normal RFR feed too now, or you’ll only get your tiered patreon shows, not the actual public shows. So you should have 2 RFR feeds. Black with a Patreon symbol, and a dark blue RFR

Rebel Force Radio

Not just the Patreon App user but everyone who uses the RSS feed. You need to subscribe to RFR via iTunes or wherever to get the public shows. All the exclusives will still be released here.

Jared Cantor

I second Zack's question - doesn't this mean the perk of ad-free shows will not be possible?

Jeff Ulicny

Makes perfect sense. I've heard of other podcasts doing it this way. I will miss early access.

Jon Edmondson

So now we have to pay for a secondary service? Patreon is the only place ive listened to rfr. Now your saying that i wont be able to listen to any of the weekly shows or the after shows?

Josh From Florida

Could we get a refresh on the Patreon art for the RSS feeds so we can distinguish more easily between the two?

Rebel Force Radio

No no no. The public feed is 100 percent free. It's where all the weekly show and after shows are always posted and can be found wherever podcasts are found.

Jamie Bruno

I initially subscribed to Patreon to avoid the ads, and having all content in one place was a big plus. I’m sad to see it go

Mario PM

Makes sense, can you make sure the thumbnail is different enough to not easily confuse? I’ve seen some podcasts use a big + as a watermark (RFR+ if you will lol) thanks y’all!

Steve S

I'll miss the ad free shows, was nice to just hear the straight content. But I understand the need to get your metrics up.

Jared Cantor

That was one of the things I've most enjoyed about Patreon - ad-free shows from several creators

Steve S

True, not a complaint at all. Will continue to enjoy the show as always.

Nick Zolotko

I get the need to have download's on the main RSS feed to keep stats up on the podcast feeder's algorithm. I am just going to miss ad free main podcasts.

Trevor Hallam

No complaints here. Whatever we can do to help you guys keep going strong!

Matt Marks

Makes sense. I actually am subscribed to both, so I was always getting duplicates of the show in my podcatcher. I always wondered whether listening to one or the other messed with your stats/analytics.

Quinnton PNW

Does this have any effect on the full show videos for the all-access tier?

Kenny

I used Google podcasts for the "RFR" Patreon supplied RSS link. I just subscribed to the public "RFR" and now have quick access to both. Hope this helps keep "RFR" the #1 podcasts. Thanks Jimmy and Jason

Peter Beisser

All good. To be honest, I kind of missed the ads. Loved Swank and JMac talking MeUndies. 😜

DarthMosk

Twice the RSS feeds, double the fun.

Davin

No worries. Love the show and really appreciate all the effort and dedication you and Jason put into it.

Lisa Seiffer

Cool with this, thanks guys!

Alex Doud

While I am not crazy about this change, I am for whatever helps the show grow! I actually used to do this a while back when I wanted trying to use some other podcatchers and they didn't support RSS feeds (looking at you Spotify :( ) I'll figure it out. I'll try and look at the YT feed more too :) Keep up the great content.

Todd F

Wish we could have both, but supporting the show is what is best. Thanks for all you guys do!

Kris Ray

Onward

Jeremy Hopper

I'm impressed and thankful you actually took the time to explain the reasoning. Appreciate it!

Joel Lackey

It’s usually a few days before I get around to listening to each episode anyway. A couple of underpants ads doesn’t bother me. All good.

Derek Thompson

Thanks for the email and the post. I ended up just listening to the latest after show on YouTube since I couldn’t find it on Apple Podcasts or Patreon. I knew something was up!

Jim from Sweden

All for it. But I really would like to know which service gives you the best revenue? If you can tell wether iTunes, pays batter than Spotify? Or Google Podcast, YouTube, Acast, etc. Those are the options I have.

Jim from Sweden

And yes! I love the commercials too. We don't have much of that kind of personal endorsement advertising in Sweden. We didn't have any radio/tv-commercials for the first 25 years of my life (socialist country you know!) :) I find it fun and very American. And you do it really well too. I never had more fun with a commercial than when you promoted Manscape.

Turtle Wars

Well, crap...I can't figure this out at all. I no longer get the new shows coming to my apple podcast app. I can only find the public shows on YouTube and everything else only if I login to Patreon. I'm not sure what I am doing wrong or if I'm supposed to sign up for something new, I have been unable to figure out what that is. I'm sure being over 50 and obsolete doesn't help me much.

Eric from Phoenix

I have an IPhone and struggled with this for a few minutes. Go to IPhone podcast app and search for Rebel Force Radio. What you will find is the non-patreon feed. Subscribe so you get regular shows and livestreams. For Patreon, go into the RFR main page (on Patreon app)with your phone and select membership and then down at the bottom you will see the RSS feed. Select that and then copy into IPhone podcast app. Subscribe and you should be good.

Turtle Wars

Thank you Eric! I think I have it set up properly now. Is the latest thing on the RSS Patreon feed Q&A #147 from last Tuesday? -Cris
