my family is from the dominican republic.. lydia is from the campo so her speech is a little slower then nicole who is from the capital city, my grandma and mom speak completely differently for the same reasons. my mom has no problem making comments about my body, ever since i was a kid. she's gotten better about it but she thinks because she's my mom, she can say anything. pedro would be allowed to travel to DR with his expired passport because it's his home country, the rules vary in each place but he wouldn't be allowed to travel back to the US. it's easier to renew it here at the new york consulate where they issue it the same day as supposed to doing it when he arrived to DR, which could take way more time.

My family is also from DR and my family has never hesitated to comment on my body. I love my abuelo to death but he doesn’t understand why I don’t thank him when he says I’ve gained weight. He says “it’s the truth! I’d want you to tell me if I gained weight!” Hahaha not the point abuelo…

I do my best to raise my 2 year old daughter to be self directive. I enjoy coloring and playing with legos with her but there are only so many times I can play restaurant with her. Gf is a little tyrant at times and doesn’t like it when I order a taco instead of pizza 🤣 I’ve been trying to not feel guilty and remind myself that I can’t be her main source of entertainment, especially she ends up being our only child. Lately our routine has been, in the morning we play together and in the afternoon she plays on her own as much as a 2 year old can. I’m a morning person so by 3pm I’m burnt out and need a break from rolling around on the floor.

Idk about DR but my Colombian ex’s sister had her nose done at 15 and her boobs done at 16. Encouraged by and paid for by her parents.

I have 4 kids ranging 10-2. The first one I was anti screen time. Now they all have screens when we are out and about. Don’t come at me. I truly feel self conscious because of the old birds giving looks if your child is anything but a silent statue. Anyone else?? My kids are good at behaving well in public I’ll give myself some grace. But let an old bitchy lady look at me for 1 second and my anxiety and heartbeat rises and I hand out the tablets 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I have 50/50 custody and it’s INSANE because I am the epitome of latch-key- I had my own key at 7! So it wasn’t just “self-directed” it was “KEEP YOURSELF ALIVE and clean the house before I get home!” Now my kids can’t take a fucking DUMP without me walking them to the bathroom. But it’s so hard because my kids’szsz dad is such a dumb fucking asshole! So I don’t want to be the “mean one” (even though I am and I KNOW it will pay off)- but YES. There is a HUGE lack of independence in this generation. And I do think Covid had a lot to do with that.

When I was in college, my friend’s friend from her hometown visited. The friend had been on the MTV classic program “My Super Sweet 16.” She told us that her grandmother had told her to get her forehead lines done - we were 18 at the time so this happened when she was younger than that. She seemed fine with it but I imagine there is trauma there 😂

I have a 2.5 year old who gets screen time(tv only) in the morning so I can work from home. He only gets 2 hours and I won’t be getting him an ipad for traveling(unless we are on a plane). I want him to be okay with running mundane errands that aren’t all that glamorous. I want him to be able to entertain himself in the grocery store or a car with a book or stickers. His little brain can’t handle too much tv it starts to affect his mood and increases tantrums.

Does South Carolina have infrastructure for handling rain? Because over here on the NC side in Charlotte, it sure doesn’t seem like we have it. People will not go outside at all if there’s even a hint of rain, which is weird because it rains a lot. And the power goes out and things get flooded and shut down almost every time there’s a big storm. Yes, it’s very windy, the rains are strong, and the soil is shallow so trees fall easily. But it seems like the “ infrastructure” here is “stay home, wait for things to fail, and we’ll do our best to fix it kinda quick”.
