I'm glad you guys are trying to be more deliberate in experiencing the character moments and trying to relate, but I also think that would have happened naturally. All of us that are expectant and wanting an analysis of S1 Elliot are sitting with the full version of the show in our minds. This is a show that gets SIGNIFICANTLY better every season, ending in the best season of TV ever imo. I think it would be impossible for you guys not to get more and more invested in Elliot and the other characters, and the overall themes, as it goes on.

I don't think you really need to explain yourselves. Whatever experience you have with the show is valid. I think the show should win you over on its own. I feel like eventually it might win you over. I think the show is great but rewatching the first season has been hard for me too.

I haven't watched the full reaction yet, just the first part where you talk about the previous discussions. I will say, I think the worst episodes of the show are behind you. I had honestly forgotten how kind of melodramatic the hacking plot feels early on. Each season does a stellar job of building on who Mr Robot is and his relationship to Elliot and what role he plays in this story. And you'll look back on the early episodes with fresh eyes once the show peels back the layers. I watched this show as it aired, and I really vibed with Elliot's struggles (even more than I knew at the time) coming off the absolute worst period of my entire life. And also, like, emerging from a conservative Christian household and finding who I was spiritually and politically. Mr Robot shaped me in ways that are hard to quantify. That's my experience, not yours. And that's what art is about, really. It speaks to people in different ways. That's no fault of the viewer or even creator. I think this show is art. (also, like, from a technical, filmmaking standpoint, I think the show is objectively incredible, but that's not really the topic at hand)

What I find so interesting about Tyrell with that regret(and also at other points) is that he appears to be playing a role even to himself. He looks/acts like such a parody of Patrick Bateman/Christian Grey/Insert Weird Suit Guy because he probably really is. That's not to say he isn't clinically bonkers on some base level, but in those moments where he breaks down it seems like he doesn't even know who he is. I wonder if he was always that way or if the world he is in made him that way

Thanks for the clarification you two and I totally understand, the writing is very on the nose or obscured behind tons of missing context, but that being said I love your guys reactions because of how honest you are and how much you really LIVE your reactions to all of this media. I'm glad you're searching for more in the show but even if you weren't, don't feel like you need to caveat every time you don't immediately enjoy something. Besides, I have full faith in the show's quality that you'll be fans like the rest of us are very soon 😉

I appears then that, rather than distain for the show, any criticism stems from our hosts rooting for the show to reach the potential that we can all see that it can, just to be met with plot turns that just are hitting right.
