Author Molly | Spices in My DNA

Ingredients

For the simple syrup*

1 cup water

1 cup sugar

1 cup packed fresh mint leaves

For the strawberry purée*

1 pound strawberries, stems removed and halved

For the margaritas

2 ounces tequila

1 ounce Grand Marnier

2 ounces freshly squeezed lime juice

2 ounces strawberry purée

1 1/2 ounces mint simple syrup

margarita salt for rimming the glass

halved strawberries for garnish

fresh mint for garnish

lime wedges for rimming the glass

Instructions

Make the simple syrup. In a small saucepan, combine the sugar and water and bring to a boil. Once boiling, stir in the mint leaves and remove from heat. Let cool completely before removing the mint.

Make the strawberry juice. Add the halved strawberries to a blender and blend until completely smooth. Strain through a fine mesh strainer into a bowl (you may need to use a spoon or spatula to help push it through the strainer) until you are left with juice.

To make the margarita, moisten the edge of a glass with a lime wedge and rim in margarita salt. Fill the glass with crushed ice. Add a handful of ice to a cocktail shaker. Add the tequila, Grand Marnier, lime juice, strawberry purée, and simple syrup to the shaker and shake for 30 seconds. Pour into the glass and garnish with halved strawberries, a sprig of mint, and a lime wedge. Enjoy immediately!

Recipe Notes

*The strawberry purée will make enough for 4 or 5 margaritas.

*The simple syrup can be made up to a week in advance and kept in the fridge! This makes extra too!

“Stop and smell the roses! Why not throw them in a cocktail and try drinking them, too? In all seriousness, rose water alcoholic drinks are one of my all-time favorite spring trends. If you’re wondering if rose water is safe to drink, it is, assuming you purchase the right products and/or make it correctly at home. I’ve been making my own rose water for the past few years, and I finally decided to try my hand at floral cocktails. I had my first rose margarita at restaurant called Meanwhile in Belfast in Maine. I loved it. Honestly, though, rose margaritas have a very distinct taste, and you’ll either love them or hate them. I’m a big fan, so I asked for the ingredients, tweaked them to accommodate what’s readily available, and recreated my own at home.”

Here’s everything you’ll need to make a refreshing rose margarita:

- Pink Himalayan salt

- 12 tbsp Tequila (the smoother, the better)

- 6 tbsp Cointreau or any other orange liqueur

- 8 tbsp Simply Lemonade or any other fresh lemonade

- 2 tbsp lavender syrup

- 1 tsp fresh rose water (you can either make your own or purchase the best natural rose water on Amazon)

- Fresh edible rose petals

- Ice

Refreshing Rose Margarita Recipe

This refreshing spring cocktail takes margaritas to the next level! Made with fresh rose water, lavender syrup, and lemonade, this rose margarita is not too sweet, not too tart, and perfect for flower lovers.

INSTRUCTIONS

Sprinkle pink Himalayan salt on small plate. Wet rims of 4 cocktail glasses and dip rims into salt to coat.

Combine ice, tequila, Cointreau, lemonade, lavender syrup, and rose water in a cocktail shaker. Shake well.

Pour into cocktail glasses. Sprinkle edible rose petals on top as a garnish and for added floral taste.

NOTES

This cocktail is relatively tart. Decrease the amount of tequila and add more lavender syrup for a sweeter taste.

Edible rose petals do add flavor, so be careful not to overdo them. Just a pinch is plenty for the aesthetic.

You can substitute the lemonade with lemon squeeze. It’s a healthier and less sugary option.

It’s worth mentioning again that fresh rose petals do add extra flavor once they’ve been soaking for a few minutes. They look gorgeous in any quantity, so be sure to keep that in mind when mixing drinks for guests. The first time we made a batch, Kyle said his tasted a little too much like roses and gave me his drink. The next time around, I only added in a pinch of red rose petals, and he liked it much better.

Rose water & Lemon Drop Martini

A clean and crisp lemon martini with a hint of intoxicating floral. This Rosewater Lemon Drop Martini is the drink you need at your next garden party or better yet, a lazy Friday night at home. This fun drink delights.

WHAT IS ROSE WATER?

Rosewater is a delicate non-alcoholic mixer made from steeping rose petals in water. It is popular for baking, skin hydration, and our personal favorite… for mixing in COCKTAILS!

This inexpensive addition can take a cocktail from blasé to WOOHOO! Although the rose aroma is subtle it’s sweet and flowery addition will have you coming back for more.

We prefer this brand of Rose Water because the flavor is incredible and it won’t break the bank. You may be able to find Cortas or another brand at a local grocery store as well, so keep an eye out!

LEMON DROP

Now although the rose water brings an element of luxury and reminds one of a garden party, the real powerhouse in this Rose Water Lemon Drop Martini is the LEMON! The lemon drops the mic.

Bright, tangy, and irresistible, the lemon juice seduces the rose water and leaves a tingle on your lips. Fresh lemon juice is really what you need to take this drink over the top. Simply squeeze and enjoy!

TIPS FOR A HOME MIXOLOGIST:

MAKE IT FANCY!

To really take this to the next level, purchase food grade rose petals for sprinkling on top or crushing and adding with sugar for a beautiful rimmed glass. Your guests will inevitably “ooohhh” and “ahhhh” with this elegant addition.

MIX IT UP!

This Rose Water and Lemon Drop combo works for more than a martini. Think aperitif, shots, or even cosmos. Once you have the basics, the possibilities are endless!
