Greeting from the Murder Shack & a Léna Question (Patreon)
Content
Man Friend has been working on the garage, which is attached to the Murder Shack where I work. Like the super professional background I have now for when I have to teach workshops via zoom? Me too!
I’ve been in the Murder Shack a lot the last week or so because my editor sent my line edits to me and they’re due on the first. I took a pic so you can kind of see what line edits look like. All those pink lines and marks are changes I have to make, questions I need to answer, things I need to cut, etc. Some pages have so many that the comments on the side collapse into each other. It’s painstaking work, and sometimes you have to jump around between chapters, because changing one line impacts a bunch of other stuff. I can usually manage editing about 20 pages a day of my own work before my brain melts. Because of the tight deadline, I was doing about 50. My brain is tired, but it’s worth it. The book is getting there.
For those interested, line edits is the stage before copy edits. The book process looks kind of like this:
Draft-> Revision/content editing -> copy edits-> formatting-> copy edits->book.
Some stages, like revisions, can happen many, many times. This is also the longest book I’ve written and all together it has been a bit of a challenge. I’m excited to be hitting the copy editing stage! It’s book shaped! Finally! This also means fairly soon I’ll start seeing possible covers! That is the best thing.
So today I’m going through the my editor’s edits of my edits and cleaning things up and starting a new chapter of Léna. She’s about to battle some things...and I thought I’d ask—what do you want to see Léna battle? What monsters should I bring in? Sound off in the comments if you have a favorite creature you what our team to take on!
