Interesting change in the Dub that made it make more sense. In the Sub Erika is the one that gave the order to ban Ash over the Perfume comment. Thing is, that would be against League Rules as she's refusing a challenger, especially over petty reasons. Her suddenly accepting the challenge just comes off as strange. The dub altered it were her staff kicked him out without her giving the order, so when she accepts the challenge, there's not much issue.

Erika: You don't have empathy with your Pokemon. Ash: Took on a army of Spearow to save Pikachu while he was injured day 1 and that was the point he stopped being a rebellious. Also, released Butterfree into the wild so he could mate with another Butterfree. In same EP: rushes into a burning building to save Erika's Gloom.

if nothing else... Team Rocket do have a real talent when it comes to disguises and costumes lol, you have to give them that at least. I mean, blowing up a gym isn't the best thing... but they come up with "stylish" designs. Erika is a tad different in the games, her design in the games is basically the traditional Japanese view of beauty, short black hair, kind and elegant, and wearing a kimono, that's probably the reason she's the grass type gym leader, because that traditional style is associated with nature and having tea in a garden.

Gloom is essentially a rafflesia, also known as a corpse flower. The whole bad smell aspect is because the real plant it is based on is supposed to reek of rotten fish so it could attract flies to pollinate.

So fun fact, by game standards, ash actually got some of the badges out of order, 1-3 are in the correct order, but Sabrina is actually the 6th gym leader in the games and Erika was supposed to be the fourth, so they order he got them would be 1,2,3,6,4. This is just a fan theory on my part, but in the games badges 1-2 you're forced to get but after that you can challenge gyms 3 4 5 and 6 in any order you want since at that point most of the map opens up for you, but you always have to beat the 8th one last (you can also do the 7th gym before you do 3 4 and 6, but you need to do the 5th to be able to access the 7th gym), so i like to think the anime did what many could have done by doing them out of order on purpose as a little nod to everyone who also did them out of order.
