I believe this show is supposed to be set in the High Republic period that predates the prequels. This story is supposed to take place around 100 years before the prequels start, I think. There is a series of books about this period that they started releasing in the last few years.

I think the issue some people are having with the show is that it seems to be reintroducing Sith or Sith-like characters during a period when there aren't supposed to be any around.

In the phantom menace, it was stated that ‘the sith haven’t been seen for a millennia’ so whomever wields said red lightsaber must be the acolyte, and not necessarily a sith. Not entirely sure though

Sith aren't the only ones who use red lightsabers. They're just one particular cult in the larger Dark Side world. It could very likely be just a fallen Jedi. Also, as Star Wars Explained points out, the Jedi lie. A lot. They could very well just say "let's not tell anyone this happened" and brush it under the rug. Either way, I'm excited to see how this plays out!

I'm not much of a Star Wars fan anymore, but this does look intriguing. Setting it a good ways outside the Episode 1-9 timespan offers them a chance to tell a good story without tripping as much over times and events we're all familiar with. And I gotta say, Carrie-Anne Moss looks pretty badass as a Jedi :)

I love the idea of a reaction video of reading Heir to the Empire. It would be just like watching the full reactions without the watch-along. silence... silence... laugh... silence... gasp... (Terrible theater. But a funny idea.)

An “acolyte” has a wide variety of connotations from student to faithful follower to dedicated fan but it’s a fun word to play with in contrast to apprentice or disciple. An apprentice has a relationship with their master, an acolyte might act according to what they understand their master to want without ever knowing their master personally. People adopt philosophies they have only read about or radicalise themselves on line. Which is just to say, if this is a show about someone turning to the darkside in a world where the Sith are lost to history (a sort of inverse Rey/Jedi situation) then I’m very interested.

Carrie-Anne's combo of stoicism and intensity works REALLY well for a Jedi Master, and seeing a touch of those old Trinity moves enhanced with the Force should be fun :)

I love the idea of a show taking place during the High Republic! As a reader of both comics and novels taking place in that era I’m so hyped. The High Republic is more of a fantasy setting with Jedi at the peak of their power curve. Multiple Jedi Temples, explorations projects etc… It’s based 200/100 years before episode 1, theses eras sharing only a couple of Jedi still actives at the start of episode 1, a little green guy among them. Acolyte is usually used by the Siths instead of Padawan so we might have some surprises! Carrie Anne Moss dancing and avoiding the blade was a candy for the eyes. I can’t wait.

I'm pretty sure the Sith are still active during the High Republic era. They're probably behind the many groups like the Nihil that caused problems for the Jedi, keeping them busy, helping the Sith stay hidden.

Seeing Vernestra Rwoh opening that door was a seriously-awesome moment in the trailer. And it helps that the series creator/showrunner is a huge fan of the Star Wars books/comics/RPGs as well.
