Very interesting dynamics for the status of our innies in episode 1. I'm unsure if one of them is lying to save face or isn't who they appear to be. Mystery!

THANK YOU FOR BEING THE FIRST WITH THIS REACTION! I love that you've been the top reactor doing Severance...Holy crap, you got the episodes early??? Good on Apple...I'm glad they're taking reactors seriously as a way to help get the word out about our shows... I...don't know about Helly/Helena being her outtie. I'm 50/50. Although there is a third theory...maybe it's outtie Helena, but she's chosen to go in to investigate. I got the feeling Helena Eagen was being pressured into doing this for her family, and the only time we met Outtie Helena, she took note of "Boy, I really don't want to be in there, do I?" Maybe she wants to do for real what she was doing for press? I was questioning how it could be an outtie, but I assume if there's an Overtime protocol to remotely turn on chips, it's reasonable there's a protocol to turn off chips, even when on the Severed floor. I don't want to write an essay, but on Miss Huang...during the red ball scene, as Mark is thinking of something to say, there's a flash of the wedding photo of Mark and Gemma, and he looks up at Miss Huang and...his mood changes. Both Mark W. and Dario notice it. And for some reason, I began to wonder....is Miss Huang a young clone of Gemma/Miss Casey????? That's bat-guano conspiracy stuff...but I don't think it's a zero chance, either. But it was Miss Cobell's personal obsession with trying to get Innie Mark to remember Gemma, and I doubt that would continue with Milkshake Milchick. Also, the moment Irv looked like he was leaving, I was really wondering if the Apple press thing at Grand Central earlier this week was a hint of what was to come.... 😳 Also...poor Mark W. Dude got woke up out of retirement, got ignored at the red ball scene, got framed, got promoted, and then got...retired again? Poor guy. I can not wait for the rest of this season! But I guess joke's on you, Ang...now you have to wait for US to see it and read our comments, and now it's on YOU not to spoil it! Damn, you really got your roles reversed now!

Also, I need the Dylan "Hang in There" poster in the Break Room. The poster, the T-shirt, the balloon, anything of it.

I watched it when it first aired, and remembered really liking it, and some of the major plot points, but not most of the details. I was planning on re-watching prior to season 2 and saw the reactions - I had intended to watch a couple per day, which would have left me with the last two on Friday. But part of what I'd forgotten was how severe those last few cliffhangers were, and I can't stop. It's 1 AM as I start this episode because I can't not at this point. ------------------------- I think that IS Halle R, but she lied about what she saw / experienced because she's embarrassed about being responsible. Being part of the family that's responsible for the whole system that had treated them so terribly. Mark only talked to his family on the outside, but his sister was talking about contacting reporters. The thing that clicked for me immediately was, of course Mark's outie came back - the "she's alive" message was not misunderstood; he came back to rescue his wife. The others didn't come back because, really why would they? But when Mark asked for them, and their outies were told of the reforms and that the innies would. I also enjoy Milcheck. I don't think he's lying, but his wording was precise. "If you take it at it's name" - he's not actually saying it is. So I believe Gertrude is Dylan's wife's name, but if he meets someone in that room, I doubt it'll actually be his wife. I had been speculating and theorizing regarding Mark's wife and why she's down there. I've seen several people express suspicion that the accident was faked or arranged so they could take her, but I think it's more likely to be the opposite. The accident happened, she was severely injured, and the Lumen company took her body to use for experiments. I'm worried now that we're heading towards a tragic end where she never leaves because her outie is brain dead. And I think the same thing happened to Mrs Cobel's daughter. It was her breathing tube we saw in the Keir shrine she tore apart after getting fired. That's why she kept pushing to see if Mark and Mrs Casey would recognize each other - she desperately wants to be able to reconnect. Also why she wear's Petey's successfully integrated brain chip on a necklace like a talisman - it represents the hope that such a process with allow her daughter to wake up again.

I've been thinking that Mrs Cobell's motivation was something else. She seemed obsessed not simply with Mark recognizing Gemma, but it seemed in the goal of proving that re-integration was possible. She and the board seemed to be very contentious in their back-and-forth about it. I think she's a true Eagen believer, but not so much that she agrees with every move done. She believes they are wrong about Severance in some way, and wants to undermine it...I don't have a theory on why. But that's why she was trying to evoke memories in Mark. I think when she shows up, she'll be an unlikely ally on the outside. Double edge on that theory: I bet she somehow helped Dr. Reghabi get to Petey to re-integrate him, and also warned Dr. Reghabi about Graner coming after her that night, which is why the doc was so ready to kill him.

I love this show. I’m so glad it’s back. I’m not really into making predictions but I will agree the Helly is most likely Helena as it doesn’t make sense that Helena would let Helly go back unless there’s another layer of manipulation so she still can’t be trusted Miss Huang reminded me of the Commodore’s Messenger Organisation which is/was the child paramilitary unit within Scientology. It might be more useful to think of her as the new Ms Cobell, an orphan raised in the cult of Kier. She could be there to keep an eye on Milchick or even Helena. I am excited to see where her loyalties lie. If she’s a true believer she is a wild card especially if the younger Eagans are pursuing personal ambitions. Dylan is really great in this episode. I love that he still cares about the work and being the best refiner.

SilentBobFather

I think I like this show but I find it a tough watch. Instead of 2nd hand embarrassment I get 2nd hand gaslighted. Once I make it through an episode I'll comeback and watch the reaction. These are my opinions.

RabidMango

What the hell that's real life?!?! Now I gotta go back and listen for it!

Rime Pendragon

I don't know why you're suspicious of Dylan... He's 100% Irv's friend. Helly is 100% Helena though.

Jonas Buckner

Either A. The outtie Helena whose chip has been disabled so the elevator doesn't activate it. B. They reintegrated Helena and Helly R, but unlike Petey, they could do it safely. C. This is Helly R, but she is too embarrassed to say she's an Eagan because she's afraid they won't trust her (best case scenario, but I fear it's not true)l D. Our Helly R is gone; Helena got re-severed; and this is a second Helly R who's been briefed to snoop information on our guys. Or E. None of those, and she's been replaced by an alien/body snatcher/bigfoot.

The fact we didn't go outside with Mark at all like we did in season 1 makes me think it may not have been 5 months. Everything Lumon does and says is suspect and it for sure has the resources to fake a news paper headline. Great 1st episode. Got me hooked for another season!

Joel Palenychka

Irving *did* say husband. He said Bert has a husband... or at least someone he lives with. So that wasn't a slip on Dylan's part. I'm also convinced Dylan is the innie Dylan when he demanded an apology for the belt when he was alone with Milchick.

Jeremy B

So good to have the show back - and to have Angela's reactions alongside it as it airs! I read Helly's failure to admit what happened to her in the last episode 9 slightly differently. But I've been mulling on it since your reaction - and I've seen another reactor also call Helly's behaviour out as suspicious. When watching it though, I thought Helly was actually ashamed. Mark had just bared his soul, explaining how his outie thought he was widowed, when all the while Lumon were keeping his wife locked up on the severed floor in the guise of Miss Casey - and working alongside Mark's innie every day. That's really messed up and I don't think in that moment Helly could admit to Mark who her outie really is. She’s really bonded with her co-workers and didn’t want to be seen as the one who’s family are keeping them in servitude. I could be completely wrong of course! When she said they weren’t the same people as their outies, it seemed really heartfelt, maybe even with a touch of disgust at being Helena outside the office? It would certainly be a neat trick to pull mind you! For anyone wondering if Millcheck’s newspaper offered any clues by the way, this is a good summary of the clues that *may* lay within: https://mashable.com/article/severance-season-2-episode-1-newspaper-fake-photograph-severance-reform Speculation at this stage, obviously. And I also read somewhere that Sarah Bock who plays Miss Huang is actually 18 not eight, despite what the innies think.

Jeremy B

It will be interesting to see if it's still winter when we next see their outies. If it's really been five months, it should at least be spring, probably midsummer.

Makhiel

Helly's outie gave off the vibe that even being in the same room as an innie was absolutely beneath her, and that's basically the only reason I don't think it's her. That said if Milchick isn't lying about the cameras they have to have a different way to keep an eye on MDR. (And come to think off it, we basically know nothing about Irv's outie)

Nalier

For what it's worth, I also thought that was Helena, not Helly. In his philosophy, Kier identified four tempers: Woe, Frolic, Dread, and Malice. He wanted to conquer them to create perfectly obedient workers, so people could be emotionless, balanced, and easily controlled. MDRs are working on purifying the code - separating data based on four emotions. At the end of this episode, it's revealed that Mark was working on Gemma/Casey file - he's separating her from her emotions. That's why Mrs. Casey appears so emotionless - and that's why she was sent testing floor.

Yoshio

I thought you were right at first about Helena, but the way she got upset that they don’t owe the outies anything (like saving outie Mark’s wife) makes me think it’s Helly. If she mentioned the Gala they’d want to know why she was there. Irv did say Burt was married, Dylan probably just assumed it was a husband. But when Dylan says he encouraged their courtship and begs him not to leave I don’t see how that can’t be the innie one. I could be wrong on both tho 😛 it’s such a great show

Yoshio

Thinking about it, hearing Burt was married Outie Dylan would probably have assumed he had a wife, so it has to be Innie Dylan.
