You can steal something and tell yourself you're not the type of person who would steal things, this is only a one time thing. You stole something, but you'll still tell yourself that I don't steal things and I'm not like that. I think we lie all the time. Also, do you think Hachiman indirectly stood up for Yukino on the roof?

People tend to have a natural aversion to being totally self-aware, because to be objectively aware of yourself is to endanger yourself. We as humans don't realise just how frequently and obviously we breach the value systems that we judge everyone else by, and if we ever became acutely aware of that fact, we would hate ourselves. The assertion, "I never lie", is just a product of this. It's a perfect example of unconsciously denying/avoiding your own flaws so that you can maintain your self-esteem. We don't like to cause ourselves pain, so we habitually avoid admitting things to ourselves. That stubbornness is how we protect ourselves, and it applies universally, whether it's an admission that we were wrong, an aversion to apologising and accepting responsibility for our mistakes, or, indeed, whether we're willing to accept that we lie.

I don't think that late club room talk between Hachiman and Yukino is an attempt of a love confession, as it's a direct call back to a dialogue in the very first episode when Hachiman asks Yukino to be friends with him and she rejects the idea.

To clarify this episode is actually the finale of the season. Next episode is actually called an extra instead of Episode 13 officially in Japan. Whilst it aired after this episode it was more of a OVA style. It was however written by the light novel author Wataru Watari so still an enjoyable and fun episode.
