The Isuzu Bellett R6 was a lightweight car, weighing only 630kg. Under the hood, the R6 was powered by a 1.6L DOHC G161W straight 4 engine positioned in the mid-rear section of the car. The R6 output 156 horsepower at 6400rpm, which was transmitted through its Hewland FT200 5 speed transmission. Unfortunately, the R6 struggled with reliability issues and possibly never revealed its full potential. In its first race, the 1969 Japan Grand Prix, one of the R6's finished 19th while the other was disqualified. In the 1970 Suzuka 300km race, the R6 unfortunately retired due to ignition and oil leak issues. Nevertheless, Isuzu bounced back in the Suzuka 500km event, with two R6s producing their best performance, securing 2nd and 4th. In the R6's final race, the challenging Suzuka 1000km race, the first car retired due to brake and suspension issues, while the second retired due to transmission problems.
Our digital recreation of this racecar has both authentic paint schemes that the team raced with at the 1969 Japanese Grand Prix. There remains some revisions to be made to the front suspension physics, as I am still doing some research for accurate information. We also need to add the LODs and accurate engine sounds. However, the rest of the car is pretty much finished apart from fixing any issues that might be spotted.
I've been having a blast racing this car against our Daihatsu P-5 and other small engine racecars from the 1960s. Enjoy!
