The Amilcar CGSS was produced from 1926 to 1929, and was effectively an updated and sportier version of the popular CGS that had been available for the previous two years. Essentially the final development of Amilcar's small cars, it featured such refinements as the spirit-bevel back end, brakes on all four wheels, full pressure lubrication, and a 1.1L inline four cylinder engine which produced 35bhp at 4,500 rpm, powering the car to an Amilcar guaranteed top speed of 75mph.

Designed as an enthusiast’s first racing car, many customers purchased the CGSS to drive during the week and then also race in events on weekends. Today, the CGSS remains one of the most sought-after Amilcars as well as a landmark example of a mid-to-late 1920s sports car.
