I believe the song you alluded to was "Roxanne" by British rock band The Police. The 1978 song was written by lead singer Sting from the point of view of a man who falls in love with a prostitute. The song ranked No. 388 on the Rolling Stone's "500 Greatest Songs of All Time" and was voted No. 85 by VH1 on its list of the "100 Greatest Rock Songs". In 2008, "Roxanne" was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. Sting wrote the song inspired by the prostitutes he saw near the band's seedy hotel in Paris, France, where the Police were lodged in 1977 to perform at a local club. The song's title comes from the name of the character in the play Cyrano de Bergerac [mentioned in comments above], an old poster of which was hanging in the hotel foyer.

After watching you watch this I would rather watch you watching a rom/com than scaring your pants off. Of course that's fun too.

Darren Gibson

Oh Cassie I have just realised that if you liked Roxanne then I reckon you will also really like the Crocodile Dundee movies - assuming of course you have not seen them. Great 80s rom/coms both.

HorrorFan87

Never seen Roxanne. now I have a reason too. Love Steve Martin movies

Mike McLaughlin

You said you thought the actress who played Roxanne was a mom in something else you had seen.. I'm going to guess you are thinking of the 2002 movie, A Walk To Remember. Yes, Daryl Hannah was Landon's mom in that movie...

Joshua s. Jackson

I saw this movie in the theatre when I was 10. Oh the nostalgia.

Mark Sahba

Just so you know, this is based on a play; Cyrano de Bergerac. It was written in 1897.

Jack the Narrator

SAHARA is such a fun movie. I need to revisit it, it's been too long. SNEAKERS is also an absolute delight. Cassie already did a reaction for STAND BY ME.

Uncle Phoenix

Had to watch the French version with Gerard Depardeu, still my favorite depiction of the legendary Cyrano.

Kaleigh Bredlau

I've always loved this movie. When she says "I love YOU, Charley," I get all misty eyed and a little choked up every time. This is such a sweet and relatable version of the original tale that it goes down as one of my favorite films. Thanks for watching this one with us.

You should do one for the movie "Splash." It's a 1984 romantic comedy with Daryl Hannah

Chris Lüders

Hello Cassie, even if it's a little bit later than the other comments, but Mark Sahba already said it, the story is based on the novel 'Cyrano de Bergerac' from 1897 by Edmond Rostand, which again is based on the real Cyrano de Bergerac who was an poet, author and freethinker, and lived from 1619 to 1655 in France. Lee Phoenix mentioned above the movie 'Cyrano de Bergerac' from 1990 which has marvelous receptions, with Gérard Dépardieu in the lead who plays Cyrano.

Watched the YT edit yesterday and did I hear you say that Steve Martn always plays so wise. You have got to check out one of his earliest and best films The Jerk.
