This is an excellent Sci-Fi Movie. And even though it has a cult following, I think it is criminally underrated. Intelligent, political, great action, great effects and it has emotional depth.

Maybe because people don't talk about it anymore. It was one of the best movies of the last decade or so, but no one ever talks about it. As good as it was, it never attained classic status because people have just forgotten about it. So in that sense, yes, it's underrated.

I don't know if this has been mentioned to you or not, as I don't read every comment, but this is basically an allegory for apartheid in South Africa, specifically the events leading up to the relocation of of residents and destruction of "District Six". Obviously, they were not aliens, just mostly black, "coloured" and immigrants during the apartheid regime in South Africa. I'm generalizing of course, but creating a movie in this way promotes a look into the barbaric governments and methods of the past. That makes this even more fascinating, even if most just see it as another SciFi movie. Glad to see that you watched it! PS, never watch The Fly, with Jeff Goldblum, if you got queasy with this movie. 🇨🇦

I must say, it was quite noticable how Cassie's traditional "Oh my gosh" quickly gave way to "Holy crap" as this movie went on.
