I agree with you that the first JW had a better story. I think the sequels get a little to preoccupied with building out the world

I once heard a theory that the John Wick movies are all about John going through the five stages of grief. Denial, Wrath, Bargaining, Depression and Acceptance. The same steps are sometimes called the five stages of Death. The theory is more or less that each movie is more or less the lead up to the end of John Wick's life. The downward spiral it took after his wife died.

Hey Cassie! Your statement that Winston actually really likes John reminds me of an internet theory that Winston is actually John's dad. He goes out of his way to help him, and is the only person that calls him "Johnathan". There are more reasons as well, but they would be spoilers for JW3, so I won't mention them here. :)

Believability at any level. When there is none - I’m just watching Keanu Reeves shoot a bunch of other actors. Most people don’t get into movies that don’t have something drawing you in.

Steve I still like Seagal's first film Above The Law. All the others, I can't find a reason to rewatch. The first John Wick film... it was a very simple revenge action film. Very little to the story...just a shoot-em-up. I like Keanu, but that wasn't enough to get me interested in any of the sequels.

I totally agree lol. But I do understand people love it just for the action. It's like a brainless popcorn flick. They don't need to think about it. But yeah, I watched the first and 2nd and that's all I need to see. I liked them but, not enough to watch someone react to them or anything.

And yet each installment opens with a higher Rotten Tomato's score AND a larger box-office gross... Either there are a lot of us who are into mindless action... OR you guys just don't get the story. Heck, might even be a case of both! :D

Luke nailed it. It's awesome genre defining action hung on a loose frame of a story. You switch off brain and enjoy the lights and sights. If you overthink it, which you dont need to do, you ruin it for yourself.
