Hey Merpeople,

Hope you all had a great weekend! Thanks for everyone coming to the LIVE!!! I always have so much fun talking to all of you! Then, I go over everything I said after and face palm a few times. I also am so exhausted every time. I got into bed at 9 and passed out, I haven't done that since the last LIVE. Thank. you x a million for all those who sent things, came, made me laugh and cry and for being the BEST!

I don't watch TV or movies very often off-channel anymore, but I do watch Ted Lasso, did anyone catch the Butch Cassidy bike moment in the last episode? Annnnddd then I started watching Shrinking, which I am LOVING! And there was a Gary Oldman Vampire joke in there and I GOT IT!! Harrison Ford is so good in it, he dresses like the silver fox he is and I am just impressed with him!

I love when the lineup has polar opposites next to each other like Splash and Gangs to New York haha. Should be a fun week! Carly is FINALLY back from her trip tomorrow so we can get back to BONDing ;)

I just posted a YAY or NEIGH Horse Poll, make sure to go VOTE!

Mando 5 and 6 just went up, 7 will be up this week, then we will do a LIVE watch-along for all patrons on 4/30 at 8pm!

Also Trivia Night! A week from today, I can't wait!! Hope you guys are doing finger clicking drills ;)

Also wanted to tell you at the end of May I'm planning a SEVENS week, kind of like our Robin Hoddie Week. I'll be watching Seven Samurai, then Magnificent Seven from the 60's then the Mag 7 from the OOghts!

Ok love you all Apollo 13 and back!

Cassie

Seven's week. No doubt EVERYONE will be expecting you to watch Se7en as part of this week.

Jeff Rogers

Totally noticed the raindrops moment on Ted lasso... I've watched all the shrinking episodes and really enjoyed it.

Chad Bailey

YES!!! You really have been on a hot-streak lately Cassie. And you continue to not disappoint!! I can’t wait for some of your releases this week on YT, Mando and the modern Mag 7 🙌🏾!

Cole Jennett

Shrinking is great, and you are going to see Harrison Ford make a similar mistake to one of your recent Cassie’isms.😂

Mike LL

Sevens week is a fantastic idea! Something to really look forward to! Let the Westerns roll on! Yee haw!!

nick bell

Wow!! So much good stuff!!

David Collins

Cassie has already seen that one. Otherwise I am sure you'd be right. I would have loved to see her reaction to it.

Shawn Kildal

Had no idea Splash was even on Cassie's radar. Love it. One of John Candy and Eugene Levy's most memorable roles

Mike Lemon

Yes! (and Nooo!- what if she doesn't like it.) Finally watching Seven Samurai and getting introduced to the great Toshiro Mifune. A reaction to my favorite miniseries is one step closer.

Bill Maurer

Keep em coming. Splash is a great movie. License to Kill is a tough Bond to watch. You can see the similarities between Dalton and Craig in this one. Steve McQueen, the one and original King of Cool

Steven Ashford

Oh my goodness all the word plays. You’re the best

Samuel

I been waiting for you to watch Gangs of New York. One of my favorites

Rose

I’m so excited for Splash, Seven Samurai, and 60’s Mag 7.

Stick Figure Studios

Some great things to come I see. The "Sevens week" is a terrific idea. All three of those different versions of the same story are good and you even get to squeeze two more westerns out of the experience (the original MAGNIFICENT SEVEN being one of my all-time favorites). You will also expand your foreign film repertoire with a masterpiece made by the man who is arguably the greatest Japanese director who ever lived (and was as huge influence on George Lucas when he did Star Wars): Akira Kurosawa. SPLASH is a wonderful movie that I watched constantly as a child. It was actually the first Touchstone Film. I knew who Tom Hanks was from the TV show BOSOM BUDDIES, but it was my introduction to Daryl Hannah, John Candy, Eugene Levy and Ron Howard's directing. You will love it. You are also doing ANOTHER Martin Scorsese film? (Having now seen SHUTTER ISLAND, GOODFELLAS and THE DEPARTED). Good for you. GANGS OF NY is an excellent movie. Leo DiCaprio gives his usual strong performance, but it's the legendary Daniel Day-Lewis (my pick for our greatest living actor) who walks off with that film singlehandedly. He creates in Bill the Butcher one of the most powerful, frightening and charismatic characters in recent movie history. I can't wait to see this reaction. But as always, what I am most eager for (and this time nervous about) is the Bond film. This time it's Dalton's second entry LICENCE TO KILL, the last Bond movie before legal issues kept the series in limbo for 6 years (the longest gap between movies in the franchise's history). You should be warned: it's a very polarizing Bond film with people either loving it or hating it. I love it, but I get why people don't. It will be intense. It's easily the darkest and most violent Bond film to date. It was the first one to get a PG-13 rating (al the previous ones were PG) and it earns it with some extreme story beats and, without spoiling anything, rather gruesome deaths. I am very curious to see what you think of it. Looking forward to Trivia night. As always, Keep up the good work. :-)

Mannygogou

Alright Splash! woo

Cole Jennett

I kind of feel the opposite, but have to appreciate that she caters to everyone’s tastes😊

Cole Jennett

Tom Hanks will always be Uncle Ned on Family Ties for me, that was my introduction to him. He was so good on only like 2 episodes.

Evan Lewis

Love Gangs of New York! All the acting in it is spectacular headlined by Daniel Day Lewis as Bill the Butcher even a Harry Potter actor surprise!

Tim Raths

Too bad you’ve already seen Se7en because you could include that one in your seven theme.

Ro

Three excellent movies. The first and third a huge part of my childhood

Phillip Ribbink

I love the idea of a Sevens Week, Kurosawa definitely deserves more love than he gets on YouTube. Also Gangs of New York is going to make for an interesting reaction.

Chip MC

Two Martin Scorsese films in a month 🔥

Rich Campbell

Cassie is about to find out why so many "thirty something" women are called Madison.

Astraeos

Incredibly excited for Gangs of New York. Recently watched it and a bunch of other NYC movies before a trip I did to there, and I forgot just how good Gangs of New York was. It was the movie that got me super, super hyped to get to NYC. By the by, doing a NYC theme'd week I think would really work. There's a tonnnn of movies that are set in NYC and have the spirit of that city. Just a fun thought for more themed weeks and polls!

Mike Lemon

Lots of fans of the fourth President (after the Constitution)? Kidding aside, I don't know any 30 something Madisons, but I do know several who are 20ish.

barnabas

I know it's a bit outside Cassie's usual fare [OK, maybe a LOT outside...], but here's a vote that Sevens Week should include the legendary film "The Seventh Seal", about a medieval knight who literally plays chess to the death, against Death himself. "The Seventh Seal is considered a classic of world cinema, as well as one of the greatest movies of all time. It established Bergman as a world-renowned director, containing scenes which have become iconic through homages, critical analysis, and parodies." [Why, yes, I DID take a Film Studies class back in the day... how could you tell? 😏]

Damien beatty

I think you'll find that Kurosawa is not only one of the best Japanese directors of all time, but one of the Greatest Directors and editors from anywhere, ever.

Richard Maurer

While I would never claim definite knowledge of what any reactor would or would not like (unlike sooo many other people), if I had to guess I'd say she probably won't be the biggest fan of Seven Samurai, and will probably like either of M 7 versions better. But that's just my opinion and she could definitely surprise me.

Richard Maurer

I would like to add The 7th Voyage of Sinbad (58), because I'm a big fan of Ray Harryhausen. Since we're just adding movies with 7 in the title.

JL_83

that Daniel Day-Lewis performance in Gangs of New York...there aren't enough adjectives to describe how legendary it was

Richard Bourne

Looking forward to Licence to Kill. I think this movie has the most appearances by the original Q than any other Bond movie and while he has a history of being anoid by Bond for always destroying his stuff, here he shows his loyalty to Bond when the chips are down. Robert Davi plays a good Bond villian and a very young Benicio Del Toro really brings on the scary henchman thing.

Mark Daniels

Great slate of picks! I hope this leads you to “The Man With One Red Shoe.” And “The Warriors” And … Timothy Dalton was MY Bond but he only was Bond because they couldn’t lock up Pierce Brosnan yet on account of “Remington Steele.”

Bek Yuldashev

I love Shrinking and Ted Lasso. I love that that your watching it. Harrison Ford is so great.

Jesus F Christ

If you run out of 7 movies you could always do a double feature of Three Amigos and Four Weddings and a Funeral. See what I did there?

Brian Harris

Gangs of NY is absolutely crazy. Like The Departed, I think it’s overindulgent and excessive - 9/11 happened while the movie was shooting and I think it knocked Marty off his game. He felt the need to shoehorn some additional thematic resonance into a movie that already was not sure what it was trying to say. That said, I’ll watch it every time for Daniel Day-Lewis’s performance, probably his best and maybe one of the greatest performances in cinema history. Cameron Diaz though? No idea what she was doing there. Cracked her head on the ceiling of her potential pretty hard.

Myles Away

'Splash' has one of the funniest moments of censorship in recent years. On Disney+, there is a funny little moment with some digitally added hair to cover a small glimpse of a butt that looks so cheaply done that it calls so much attention to itself. Also, kinda pointless to do in the first place.

Robert da Spruce

Another solid week! Also looking looking forward to Quiz night! I’m not nearly as knowledgeable as some of the others, But I do enjoy it!

carbsix

If doing sevens, u need to add Seven Pounds to the list

Philip Alan

SHRINKING is SOOOO GOOOOOOD!

Philip Alan

"I'm doing SEVENS week." EXCITEDLY looks at list and there is no "SE7EN". Haha!!

barnabas

You could even make a triple feature by adding "And Then There Were None" to any "seven".😉

Larry Darrell

Got to say, Three Amigos! (1986) should go with the “Seven” Films. It is a Parody of the Concept, not the films directly. Very Funny Classic Comedy. Elmer Bernstein even does the Music for Both Magnificent Seven (1960) and Three Amigos. And if you think the Three is too small a number to join in with the Sevens… well then, Just make sure you remember what a Plethora is, because those Darn Amigos, they sure can Dart around and Weave in and out, if you Gather my Meaning.

TheGreat Gambino

How do I vote in the polls? I'm new here.

TheGreat Gambino

I want to vote for Gangs of New York. You will love it.

David Freese

I don't think anyone is getting the point of her seven's week. It's about the 3 movies starting with 7 samurai and moving thru the 2 Magnificent 7 movies because they tell the same basic story. Not to watch a bunch of movies with 7 in the title. 🤦

Shehab Dawoud

What is it that people love so much about Gangs of New York? I'm genuinely curious because I just don't get it, and I never will. It had all the elements to make a great film but ultimately just feels pretty flat. Could it just be DDL's performance that makes people think more highly of the film itself? Or maybe it's because Scorsese has set the bar so high that anything below his masterpieces feels like a letdown? To me, it's easily one of his weaker films.

Mike Lemon

Totally agree. Seven Samurai is a tough watch, but maybe she'll like it. I just look forward to her eventually getting to Shogun (1980) which I think she would like.

nick bell

Hopefully Gangs...spurs more Daniel Day Lewis films...In The Name of The Father and There Will be Blood to name a few.

sarCC

Super-excited for the Seven Samurai watchalong. I'll take any excuse I can get to rewatch a Kurosawa film starring Mifune. (Hope this leads to a watch of Yojimbo and Sanjuro.)

Lamar Smith

Dearest Cassie, I’m not sure you could handle ‘Seven’ with Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman.

Mike Lemon

Well, since she already watched it, I bet she could handle it just fine.

Lamar Smith

Fellas, we’ve seen how our Dearest Cassie ‘watches’ things difficult for her….. she doesn’t really, does she? If she saw it in her personal life, I could imagine it was through the filter of her blanket, pillows or elbows covering her eyes, fingers stuck in her ears singing Christmas Carols.

Mike Lemon

First- "our dearest Cassie" is creepy as f and gives off serious stalker vibes. Second, she's not a child. Third, other than sloth and lust there isn't much that is disturbing in Se7en (and those two aren't that bad), it is just a good suspense thriller. Fourth, hasn't she made a "what's in the box?" joke on a live stream?

Tommy.J

Cassie you are going to love "Splash"! The most loved Canadian of all time will always be John Candy. Followed by Mikey J Fox and William Shatner.

David Bunnetto

What about Six Days and Seven Nights? Stars Harrison Ford...

Anonymous

Cassie you and Carly really need to see “Miracle” with Kurt Russell. It’s a great sports movie based on the true story which y’all both seem to love. Please consider this film on the channel one day.

2023-07-09 00:13:17 I've been hesitant to watch Shrinking, so many people are saying good things about it in the comments. I'll check it out! No wonder you're exhausted, next time we won't see you behind the packages ^^. Splash/007 => YES!

David

All Canadians have seen Miracle, its about hockey.

Richard Maurer

Well it's a wonder that Cassie was able make a reaction channel, or even function at all, after such a life-altering experience. /s

nick bell

DDLs performance definitely elevates the story. Without him it is one of Scorceses weaker films. But he makes it re watchable and memorable.

Cassie Tremblay

the polls come as seperate posts! the most recent one going on right now if the horse poll: yay or neigh

Al Swearengen

It's not just DDL. It's the incredibly authentic recreation of 1860's NYC, right down to the colloquial phrases. I loved the history that was presented, from Tammany Hall to the draft riots. To my knowledge, no other movie tackled those events.

Al Swearengen

Wow, Gangs of NY is a pleasant surprise. Is that her pick of the month or something?

Mike LL

You mean there is no chance she is going to watch 7 FACES OF DR. LAO (1964) with Tony Randall, Arthur O'Connell and Barbara Eden? Oh, darn.

Stick Figure Studios

They actually offered it to Timothy first (and it was their third time as they previously did so after Connery left and in the middle of Moore's tenure), but he couldn't do it because of another project he was working on called BRENDA STARR. That's when they went to Pierce Brosnan and cast him, did costume fittings, took publicity photos and everything.. until at the last minute the REMINGTON STEEL producers exercised the option in their contract to bring him back for some television movies, so he ended up not being able to do it. In the interim, Dalton finished BRENDA STARR and his scheduled freed back up, so he was able step in after all.

Stick Figure Studios

It's a "YT Live Pillowcase-Pull Poll Winner." Notice it says that right underneath the movie's thumbnail image.

Astraeos

I mean you said it yourself. Scorsese is just on another level, so even one of his weaker films is still on a super high level. Also, I think for people who have been to NYC, this movie speaks to them differently. Definitely does to me. I get teary eyed during that ending montage that shows the city being built up. There's something about NYC, and this movie definitely taps into it.

Astraeos

She would love The Last of the Mohicans. Its a love story. But yes, DDL needs to be watched more on this channel. All of his movies. He is without a doubt the most prolific actor of the last 50 years. Should also really look into The Bounty. True story, very accurate to history about a famous mutiny in the British Navy. Cast has DDL, Anthony Hopkins, Liam Neeson, Mel Gibson, Lawrence Olivier, etc. Its truly star studded. Highly, highly recommend

nick bell

She has a reaction to Last of the Mohicans... @astraeos And i agree. He is exceptional. The Bounty is a great forgotten film. I loved seeing HISTORY BUFF do a show on it.

Tim Raths

@Astaeos, she hasn’t watched Gangs of New York yet so why are you spoiling it? You should edit that last part of your comment.

David Freese

He first major role tv or otherwise was 4 years prior in a comedy called Busom Buddies.

David Freese

Who says he doesn't watch Cassie every week?!? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤷🤷🤷

John Liebling

I predict Cassie and Carly will love Splash and have mixed feelings regarding Gangs of NY. Daniel Day Lewis acting in Gangs of NY is excellent. Cassie, have you ever seen or heard of My Left Foot? Daniel Day Lewis was the lead actor in Last of the Mohicans. Everyone is young in Splash. Tom Hanks was an unknown actor. Other than a few TV gigs.

David

Hey I miss the obvious stuff all the time !!

KevG

She's seen "Last of the Mohicans" So CAssie knows he's great. She just doesn't realize how great and committed he is in his acting.

KevG

Splash is one of my favs. Especially as a young tween looking for a girl to give me the googley eyes. I know it's a movie, but we all can hope to find love like Tom Crusie did in Splash. I know Cassie will love it.

KevG

Hey Cassie. Next month you have to watch Tom Hanks in "BIG" and then " Castaway

KevG

"WHO IS THIS UNDER MY KNIFE" IF that doesn't say it all then Cassie is in for a long ride. with the NEw York Gangs.

TheGreat Gambino

How do I find it??? I've tried searching here and on YouTube with no luck. I've also scrolled for days. Haven't found it.

Astraeos

How in the world is that a spoiler? Was she somehow not aware that NYC has been a city for almost 400 years and was built up over the course of centuries lol? Thats literally like worrying about spoiling the fact that Winter comes every year. Grow up. It spoils absolutely nothing about the story, what so ever.

KevG

But she could watch it with Carly. or Momma Popcorn. That's how we're getting "Inception". Carly has not watched it. The possibilities are endless. HA

John Liebling

Regarding the seven theme...I don't know if its prohibitive to play musicals, and perhaps it's not your cup of tea, and that's okay...I personally love musicals...but if you can watch Seven Brides for Seven brothers...I feel Cassie and Carly would enjoy that musical.
