Your RWBY reactions are my favorite way to start my Saturdays!

The Prince is crying white marbles. It’s a nod to Alice Through the Looking Glass where the character the Duchess cries pearls. Some great attention to detail is when Blake looks confused when she runs out of ammo. She didn’t know Weiss had fired some after she fell so she expected there to be more. I am so glad Bethany seems to hate Neo as much as I do!

This is probably one of my favorite combat scenes in a while - watching mini-Weiss, Yang, and Blake kick absolute butt without actually hurting / killing anyone was delightful, and Weiss being almost an avenging angel with the wings... *chef's kiss* Remember that Semblances evolve over time. This could very well be the next evolution for Neo's Semblance - sort of the way Ren went from masking emotions to sensing/reading emotions, or how Ruby went from just being very fast to being able to completely dissolve into rose petals and take others along with her, or Blake went from being able to only make stationary copies of herself that could only take a hit from her, to being able to actually interact with them. The Red Prince's voice was annoying, but he was supposed to be a combination of a spoiled brat and the Queen of Hearts from Alice in Wonderland, so it works. I have a feeling the cat will be more annoying - imagine a small child that continually asks "Why" or "How" to every answer you give them. Great reaction! Would definitely want to see you eventually take on Epic the Musical, and also the RWBY Chibi series, and Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood.

Volume 9 is such a bizarre volume of the show, it truly is. Especially during the first half. It's such a radical shift in tone and setting that the viewer is just sorta left blinking as the end credits roll. That's NOT a criticism! Not at all. But even as someone who watched the show from the day the Yellow Trailer aired, volume 9 was still...jarring, to say the least! (Again, not a criticism!)

I remember how it threw me the first time I watched it -- but it made sense to me on repeated views. It acts as (1) a palette cleanser after how heavy Seasons 7-8 were and (2) it serves as an "epilogue" in a sense to those seasons, where RWBY team has to unpack how they feel about what happened and deal with it, which is necessary if they are going back into the fray in later seasons. The first three episodes feel like they are out of left field, but there are hints of where it's going and then e4 and onwards really makes it more clear. Now it's one of my favorite seasons.

Oh definitely. I love volume 9 and for everything it does. With absolutely no spoilers, it's become a comfort volume for me. So, definitely agree on all points. It was rather refreshing to sit down expecting More Atlas Arc-Esque Misery only to be thrown into...uhh...what we got. :') So, agreed.

So the best way to explain what happened with Neo at the end is the world interacting with her semblance. There's more context to Neo & her semblance in the book Roman Holiday that released in between volumes 8 & 9. But she has a lot of references & sorta connections to Alyx & their world's version of her story. She's broken in the Ever After & clearly the mad hatter lol. This fight is so entertaining & awesome uses of Weiss's semblance, with shooting from the Nevermore behind her then Yang using the knight's sword. The song "Checkmate" is also such a bop, this ost is definitely my favorite. The curious cat is well, curious. It's curious of everything else & itself is oh so curious of a character. Fun fact, the cat is animated differently than everything else in the show. Just a note about the intro, there's a small change to it at the half way point through the volume. So after chapter 5, there's a super small change but you might blink & miss it 🤣🤣

The animation design was so spectacular this episode, and not just the Escher-like palace when they're fleeing. The fight was pretty great too, with some new tricks like Weiss borrowing wings and throwing feather knives or summoning the Arma Gigas' sword for Yang to wield. (I will say, Yang is also a big overachiever, the way she goes after her first opponent, lol.) I did like how the White Team was SO demoralized from past repeated losses but RWBY's early individual victories emboldened them again and caused a temporary rout. The voice animation and direction also is great -- obvious with The Red Prince and Curious Cat this episode, but also in later episodes with a few more new characters. I think the Red Prince is made of porcelain with articulated joints, and he was crying pearls (or something similar) and the stress when he found out they were human (ah, more info to come!) made his face crack. Pay attention to everything the Cat says, as it's important to unraveling what is happening. Yup, Neo normally can't create dupes of herself -- but somehow in the Ever After, she now can. As Bethany picked up, she wasn't aware she could do this before. It's a new power with some pretty heavy consequences, esp after the encounter with the Jabberwocker... There are hints of Agent Smith in Matrix 2&3 here. I know Bethany hates Neo, lol. IMO Neo has seemed more often like a neutral mercenary to me (rather than being on-board with Salem's eradication of humanity), chasing her own purposes; the one thing that makes her a real villain here is her obsession with destroying Ruby, blaming her for the death of Torchwick. It will be interesting how people might feel about her at season's end.

I love those little points of continuity with prior events too. :) They did a great job of tracking many of them into this season.

My favorite part of this episode is definitely the chess game, I love seeing Yang cheering Blake on! Neo is absolutely my least favorite character of the whole series, I never like her to begin with and I dislike her even more now. She was already way more overpowered than she needed to be, then the writers decided to give her another ridiculously overpowered ability as well. Only a couple more episodes until my absolute favorite moment of the entire series happens! Can't wait for you to get there!

Something that was never explained in Volume 9 as there were 40+ minutes that had to be cut because of executive meddling, was that CRWBY explained Neo had landed in the "Brothers" (gods)" territory of the Ever After. This is why Neo's powers were enhanced. They explained this in the Blu-Ray CRWBY Commentary for V9. It will also explain why there are things that might seem disjointed for some in V9 due to getting those 40+ minutes cut out. This season was funded by Crunchyroll. Originally these 10 episodes were supposed to be 12. It was mostly restructured after Chapter 7 as explained by some of the writer and animators. Eddy Rivas, one of the main writers explains in his Twitter account: https://x.com/eddyrivas/status/1709583579334750255?s=46 https://x.com/eddyrivas/status/1709584074623369545?s=46

"We didn't know it was green!" is one of my favorite throwaway lines in the show

Can you imagine this back in the earlier volumes? It actually makes me chuckle thinking about this. Kerry and Miles mentioned that Monty originally wanted this wonderland idea much earlier in the narrative but he was talked out of it LOL. Yeah it would not have fit at all during the Beacon era but then again, they weren't sure they would last this long even with Monty's long planned RWBY road map.

Neo didn't know either - look how surprise she is - later CRWBY explained that she landed on specific place in Ever After and that's why her semblance become stronger like Ren did on the ship.
