In the post-Starfield video haze, a number of projects spawned and died in the course of about a week.  That was the main reason I've taken a minute to get around to writing up an announcement for this project.  I didn't want to confirm something and then change my mind.  At the time, the idea wasn't quite clicking but some things have happened since to really affirm my decision.

So for those who are new here: since November of 2022, I've been weighing the pros and cons of various QUICK video ideas to follow up the Skyrim video (after all, why would the Starfield video count as being longform?  It's only gonna be an hour)  The main contenders of this discourse ended up being Cyberpunk 2077 vs. Classic World of Warcraft.

Now before anyone feels robbed, here's why WoW won: the game has had millions of players, yet people ask me why I would want to make such a video.  It's also extremely fertile ground, basically being uncovered in this format.  And it's extremely well-documented in terms of developers talking about making the game.  Ideally, I'd like Cyberpunk to age a bit and for more information to come out about it before I commit to doing a big project on it.

The problem is, right now I don't feel like working on anything else.  I had some ideas jotted down to make before March and none of those have been meaningfully worked on, because I'm making pretty solid gains on the WoW project.  My mentality is, if I feel like doing work on something, I'm not gonna stop myself just because I think I could be making progress elsewhere.

Patron Guild

So I will be upfront: this sounds like a terrible idea, and I probably won't go for it unless someone can make an extremely compelling case for why it wouldn't end in cataclysmic disaster.

Patron Guild would be great if only to document average community sperging. Maybe if you play an anonymous character in the guild?

Mick Mais

also fuck yeah i’ve been paying to ask “when WoW video” since first skyrim research stream

Your logic on the choice of game is sound. CP2077 is a bit fresh with the Phantom Liberty expansion + 2.0 update for a retrospective after the disaster of the launch of the game. I honestly have never played WoW in any regard and would be interested to see some good medium form content on it.

Rinychib

I would love to be in a patron guild. I'd be willing to level a character and run dungeons as everyone levels

Papa Rabbi

You bring a unique perspective and definitely in a unique format to your videos. I see no reason why this wouldn't be a good idea no point in pouring work into something you aren't feeling because it will come across in what you create.

Josiah Keen

I know more popular topics are going to bring in more views, but many of your videos are on games I havent played personally. What I enjoy is hearing you dissect each game and discuss what works and what doesn't. Meaning WOW video sounds like a good time.

Scott

I would love to see a Wow video

Roo

Do whatever you think you’re going to find most interesting re guild and video topic. I know you have to manage views and it’s your income but also, look at the podcast you did with Private. Burn out is real and comes in many forms. If you’re going to sustain your career long term you need to occasionally experiment and just do the thing that makes you excited. If you think trying a patron guild sounds intriguing, do it. But yeah maybe be an anonymous character in it like Mick Mais said

Kiwikatgamer

I would be much more excited to see a wow video pop up in my notifications than another CyberPunk2077. Not that I don't think your analysis would bring something else to the table, just that I have not really heard anyone's analysis of WoW and now that I think of it I would love to hear what you have to say about it.

Sentry Jman

I would love to see a sequal to your cyberpunk review, but I do understand needing to give phantom liberty some time to age, I will be looking forward for the video to be 50 hours long so that your first video on cyberpunk wouldnt be clickbait.

TruthRI

the topic doesn’t really matter much to me, just more of your content. do whatever you feel is fun and i’ll be happy

Regarding the Patron Guild: The only negative I see is if they start feeding you drops. Even if part of the Guild became hostile towards you that's at least authentic and part of the journey. You're not like Asmongold who's community flooded a Classic server and affected all non guild members on the server. With this Guild being Patron-only the reach is to a smaller more controlled crowd. The positive of the Patron Guild is you can likely find a group who's willing to go dungeon/raid which wont require you to play the meta. Regarding the video and the general WoW audience: I wouldn't be surprised to see it hit the subreddit which as far as I'm aware is one of the largest Warcraft platforms. That alone would do a lot of the legwork for exposure. I used to be addicted to Old School Runescape and some of your older videos were in my rotation during my later stages of playing. People have Netflix and streamers on while playing so I don't think it's farfetched to assume long-form goes well with MMO players who spend hours grinding. I think it's an exciting topic and can break ground with a different type of audience. Regarding Asmongold: Avoid naming him even as a joke. I only bring him up because between the affect he's had on the community, the game itself, and his sometimes dicey relationship with Blizzard, I could see him being in-scope. Regarding his impact on the game, I watched him largely during BFA. During this time Blizzard initially scoffed at releasing Classic and Retail was in a shitty state. Asmon was rightfully criticizing the state of Retail, Blizzard, and pushed for Classic after a popular private server got shut down. Blizzard eventually relented on Classic but I recall Blizzard employees were privately and Blizzard-shill channels were publicly coming out against him and I don't think that was ever smoothed over. The retard war between pro-/anti-Asmon fans has been raging since and I'm pretty sure he's still a lightning-rod for retard rallys. Naming him drags your video into the retard war and any commentary from the WoW community regarding the video would inevitably turn into a pro-/anti-Asmongold rally. Completely unrelated but I got the gist you may have at one point followed the Sektur. If so, Ralph's back on the booze and it's been a glorious week. Despite losing 100 pounds there's new pictures of his gunt out there and it looks like a legit ballsack now. He also has a Mexican rent-a-girlfriend.

SpookyLizard

"Catacylsmic disaster" sounds like a pretty compelling argument in favor of a patron guild tbh

Jacob Wolski

If you’re looking at doing classic you’re going to need a patron guild to find players for content.

Apo

Get a real job.

deadeyemax

WoW video sounds great. Patron guild is something people would like, i dont think you would. (But im just some internet guy what do i know)

Xanxan Buttnugger

I would love a WoW video as I know far less about that game than I do about cyberpunk, I am also interested to see what makes people go so insane over this game as MMOs could never quite hold my attention. I would probably give it a try if you had a patron guild

Jacob Goulden

i have no interest in anything blizzard, but you got my interest

Mace

Very cool.

Nathan Wizbiz

Sounds like a great video!

Tero

I would almost certainly advise against a guild, for your own sake. I'm not familiar with your working schedule, but films like what you serve most certainly takes up a lot of effort. Management of a guild, even a less serious one is a full plate, considering that I'm not aware of a group/following of people you'd trust to work with in that regard, from what I understand.

Brandon Bruce

Yeah guild management is a huge time sink. I’d just run the game basically as an anon like everyone else lmao
