Some especially creative twists on the book here. Dr. Montague was a major character in it, the one who assembled the whole ghost investigation in the first place, but the change of focus to the family who lived in the house meant this was the only place Flanagan could think of for him. He's also played by Russ Tamblyn, Luke in the 1963 Haunting (having already worked with Robert Wise in West Side Story), which also serves as a nod to his role as a questionably competent psychiatrist in Twin Peaks. Also, with the characters not being in the same family in the book, Nell's last name is Vance, so that gets changed to her married name here, while the Crains were the house's original owners and now the ghosts in it.

This episode always leaves me in tears. That reveal at the end just broke me the first time I saw it. Nellie’s life is so very, very sad. To have been haunted by your own death from the age of six. So tragic.

I was gonna point out Russ Tamblyn as the head shrinker too, but you beat me to it, Ryan. As you said: played Luke in the OG film The Haunting + zany Dr Jacoby in Twin Peaks. Too bad he doesn't have more to do here, aside from cameoing. (Tbf: I've only seen up to this ep thus far. Maybe Montegue *will* play a larger role, as he did bookside.)

Brings a whole new spin to the phrase 'your life flashing before your eyes'!!
