The ethical dilemma took center stage here as the government tried to negotiate with the 456. Torchwood puts their own plan into action.

I tell people to watch Torchwood to get to this episode. Your reaction was well worth all this time of waiting. The writing, the acting and music are PEAK Sci fi TV. The Cabinet conversations are just so scary because, like you said, they really do feel like they play out exactly as they would. You can have all the giant demons, Daleks, Cylons, Borg, Reavers and Weevils you want but to me nothing is scarier than that calm voice telling them to hand over 10% of children and the cold conversation the politicians then have discussing the logistics of doing it whilst spinning it to 'the voters'.

Man. Ianto's death always gets me. There's actually a memorial called "Ianto's Shrine" in Cardiff near where they used to film outside the Torchwood hub. Fans like to visit it and leave flowers, photos, little personal LGBTQ+ stories, etc. I really need to visit it one day And yeah, I'm so glad I'll never have to make a decision like this. Incredible episode, and wonderful reaction as always

You yielded in the past. You will do so again.

"It's so nice. It's fantastic" You say. And there is me already crying about this episode. Let's be honest this is exactly what the government would do. One of the reasons COE is so good is because it really looks at what would happen in this sort of situation. Ianto's death is so devastating. To this day there is a real memorial/shrine to him in Cardiff. Like, Torchwood looked so good and powerful! They were going to save the day. Then BAM! we get whacked by the 456 and that virus. Why did Jack have to take Ianto with him? Graeth David-Lloyd has said at conventions that while he wishes Ianto survived (like all of us do), there was never a happy ending for Ianto. He had a rather sad and tragic life and he would have been glad he got to go out trying to save the world beside Jack. But legitimately, not being dramatic here, I have genuine grief around Ianto's death to this day. It just feels so unfair.

It's the trolley problem on steroids!! 😵 I really don't envy any person in power having to sit around the table and be faced with these kinds of discussions. You are damned if you do, damned if you don't. Is there ever a correct answer? And let's all pour one out for Ianto tonight shall we? 😭

It is a different kind of terror because it's all too real. Torchwood Series 3 is a crown jewel in the Whoniverse!

You nailed it. The feeling of triumph as Jack makes his bold move and says he's standing up to the 456, his look to Ianto. The small nudge of uncertainty because there is still one episode left and then to be so crushed. Children of Earth is a masterpiece of television, while still being compeltely true to what Torchwood is.

Is there a correct answer? Honestly, though. It's easy to watch this and say what we think is right, but to be sitting in the seat of power...God forbid. I don't want to.
