This episode is full of Doctor Who’s greatest hits. SPOILERS.

The future professor is back and with her all the questions! River Song also seems to have invited the doctor to a party just full of weeping angels. I’m thrilled we could attend, but whatever you do DON’T BLINK!!

So excited for this episode!! Can’t wait to see your reactions

It was this double set of episodes that fully brought me on board with Matt Smith's Doctor. Always takes me a few eps and I wasn't massively sure of the previous two the first time round but I really remember this one being fab. Looking forward to watching after work!

Moffat claims that he had River’s entire story planned out from the moment it started, which I seriously doubt, but it still mostly hangs together very well.

Lots of wonderful world building in this one, including the (or a) Church going back to the approach from the Crusades. But nah, nothing was confirmed 🙂 - this is Moffat being (perhaps slightly too) cheeky: "Are you Mr. Grumpy Face today? ...... Is she gonna be your wife one day?" "Yes. You're right. I'm definitely Mr. Grumpy Face today". The Doctor, based on his reaction, doesn't really know. Some would say, "how could he know?" Well, based on what happened in the Library, maybe he could - but the performance really indicates that he doesn't know. Also about "Silence in the Library", when River did her diary check back then, the first thing she asked was, "Crash of the Byzantium. Have we done that yet?" Probably the strangest use of a cameo in the entire series, the security guard in the very first scene is rapper and record producer Mike Skinner, AKA The Streets. This was actually the first episode that was shot, so this is Matt Smith's first performance as the Doctor, other than his short bit at the end of "The End of Time, Part 2". Also, some lovely location shooting here - the beach of course, but also the maze, most of which is actual caves (with some CGI for wide shots, obviously) rather than studio sets. Oh, and about the Aplans and the angels - not sure if you worked it out, but the implication isn't that this is an origin story for the Angels - we're not that likely to get one, since the Doctor explicitly says in "Blink" that the Angels are "as old as the Universe, or very nearly".

god i love amy i love her so much she is my absolute favorite ...

i believe him. in every show he ever did it was crazy story arcs from the beginning to the end thats whats hes famous for xD i mean he also did sherlock at the SAME TIME xD

Florian Hoyer

i am sure he not confirmed they are married he said "your right ... i am grumpy face today" that what he was agreeing with xD

I have been really looking forward to this reaction since you met River and it did not disappoint, this is such a good episode. I just adore how much you get into the show, you reflect the exact excitement I had (and continue to have) when I started watching way back in 2005. So excited to see you do the rest of series 5, it’s one of my favourites.

i mean insert Obi-Wan "from a certain point of view" he probably had basic stories. Like we heard all this stuff in the journal in the library. starwars spoilers..... But George Lucas said Obi-Wan was supposed to be alive all 6 star wars movies. But when they actually got to the end of episode 4 it didnt make sense to have this powerful jedi sitting the bench while luke took on the death star. So they killed him off... Well now theres no one to train luke in episode 5.. so killing obi left an opening to create yoda. similarly leia wasnt ever supposed to be related to luke but he needed something to at the end of episode 6 to get luke angry about to tempt him over to the dark side but they had nothing to hold over him because i guess threatening to kill all lukes friends wasnt good enough... but his sister...... he has a twin sister.... ahh ok that works. and now all their make out sessions seem creepy. so yea you can have a baseline planned out but we have 100% proof he didnt think things through which makes for some lame reveals in weak attempts to retcon his own stuff. but going into details would be spoilers so

Even better, the line “There is another” was supposed to lead into a whole new character who’d be developed over several movies, but then Lucas decided to wrap the whole story up in just three, so it needed to pay off with someone we already knew.

Harrie

Yeah, that's one thing that's always bugged me - much as I appreciate the callback/foreshadow. Why would River ask if they've done the crash of the Byzantium when she's talking to 10 and she did that with 11 - so they *clearly* haven't...

Harrie

Not *all* of Moffat's shows - no crazy story arcs in 'Coupling' ;o)

The reintroduction of River in these episodes was perfection, and so was your reaction to it..."shut up and watch the shoooooow!" I'm dying XD

What's interesting is this was actually the first episode in the production block. The chemistry that the Doctor and Amy have "built" is actually them acting their asses off together for the first time. The Doctor didn't quite confirm River as his wife. He was answering Amy's first question of "are you Mr Grumpy Face today?" But they leave such a long pause, that almost every reactor I've seen has immediately picked up on the wife thing instead.

haha yea, I got ahead of myself there and one of the times I completely missed a line of dialogue. Whoopsie. Stellar episode!

casualnerdreactions

Ah ye, I figured that out just before posting this lol. Went back and made a couple small tweaks to the edited version upon realizing.

casualnerdreactions

Oh dang, why did they film this one first? Wild! I definitely got ahead of that line and missed it, but glad I caught onto it now!

I love River so much! She is definitely a favourite of mine!
