The Silurians had a rather mixed reception in the classic series. Their first story was praised for its complex morality, as they really do have an equal claim to the Earth and most of them want to peacefully coexist with humans, but a few bad apples cause it to end tragically. But every writer who brought them back afterwards was too lazy for that and just wrote them all as evil.

I just discovered earlier this week that the actor who plays Tony was in Torchwood S02. He was the teenager who fell through the rift and came back older (and severely burned) and would scream for 20 hours per day. He had prosthetics in TW which is why I didn't recognize him before, but I totally see it now. There is a "Siluriun Hypothesis" named after the Siluriuns in Doctor Who. It's not saying there was a civilization before humans, it's just hypothesizing what if, but that's what they named the paper. Someone told me off on another channel for explaining this wrong so I hope I get it right this time lol.
