The truth of Father Paul is revealed!! Or is it? I loved getting to see parts of Monsignor Pruitt’s journey in Israel. This episode also had some intriguing and powerful moments in the fallout of Leeza’s miracle.

It's somewhat ridiculous to say I "hate" a fictional character, but I hate Bev. Bev is a bigoted zealot and an expert at DARVO (Deny, Attack, Reverse Victim and Offender) -- taking her opponents' grievances and turning them against them. She is a perfect example of religion bringing out the worst, rather than the best, in people, and her particular brand of devout Christian hypocrisy makes me see red. NYT interview with Flanagan re: Midnight Mass (SPOILERS in the article - also this link bypasses the paywall) https://archive.ph/k1nPA

idk if anyone’s mentioned yet that Flanagan both grew up in the Catholic Church and struggled with alcoholism (and is now something like 8+ years sober along with Kate Siegel!) for a lot of his adult life, so Midnight Mass is understandably prob his most personal work. I love the thematic intersections between religion and alcoholism explored in MM—personal accountability and the loss/dismissal of it, the themes of guilt and redemption, of self-inventory and reflection, of what counts as “vice” and why/to whom etc. I LOVE THIS SHOW.

Also: the moment when people finally realize that the Monsignor and Father Paul are the same man never disappoints 🙌🏻 Also-also: the funniest comment I’ve ever seen re: the whole angel/vampire reveal in ep 3 was worded something like “Angel?? My brother in Christ that is a wholeass Nosferatu.” 😂😂😂

haha I am NOT up on my vampire lore, so I only know the word Nosferatu from the upcoming movie which I THINK looks absolutely terrifying and I don't wanna see it 😅🤣
