People get this confused all the time. The definition I always give folks is this Jazz is a Black American art form shared by every culture using improvisation and individual interpretation as a means of expression. A music born of struggle and resiliency striving for freedom and peace. That is JAZZ. Blues is a genre within that built ON that.

Yes. Blues was born out of oppression and racism. The components of jazz are the fundamentals found within the playing style of the blues.
