Saitama not getting the credit that he deserves because it's basically a running joke in the series? What about adding a character whose whole running joke is getting all the credit that Saitama deserved just to make sure?

Opening is sweet, and it is a different studio. Iirc they are also animating season 3.

i have not watched season 2 but one of the criticism i've heard is the animation, it's probably not that bad but s1 was incredible so people are gonna criticise it more. but episode 1 was awesome

Yes the OP is done by the same band. It is a different studio J.C Staff but they weren't given much time to make the season so it's art and animation quality is lower than season 1. There is no upgrade but I guess different people like different things, it seems you just like the change in compositing style. Most don't like it and think the compositing especially on the metal looks messy and out of place.

I think the animation is just not as consistent. There is some good stuff still but not quite as stellar as season one normally was. I like the characters we get this season and the story stays fun!

While the animation is not as good it was way overblown by people. The modern internet can't just say something is decent, it either has to be the best thing ever or complete garbage.

It’s kinda funny you enjoy the song because the general consensus is that it’s a major downgrade. It’s a different studio and the main changes are this weird way they made metal look this season with Genos’ body and that robot, along with the sound design of punches and fights that tended to make things lack the same impact and become a bit jarring. There’s still plenty of cool shit that happens which sates what I wanted from the show plus the villain is cool af. Excited to rewatch some scenes with you.

Season 2 came out 4 years later with a different studio (Switched from Madhouse to JC Staff). The people at JC Staff had an EXTREMELY rushed production so in general this season does not look as good as season 1 in terms of pure animation and drawings. The drawings are REALLY inconsistent quality wise and overall this season doesnt really move as much as the first one as well due to the limited production time. Also changed in just art style and the way they handle stuff like metal reflections on Genos armor isn't very appealing personally. That said, most of the complaints come as a comparison to the first season. Season 2 while an overall downgrade visually, still has some nice moments of animation from time to time. Kenichiro Aoki animated pretty much all of the most impressive fight scenes in this season. Him and a couple few other people who show up from time to time make for the best moments of the season, and I cant wait for you to react to some of those action moments!

Season 1 was a landmark moment in anime because that was a season where the director got all his cool ass animation friends and brought them all together to make the best action show of the year it came out. No show really looked and did what Season 1 did, which is why a lot of people were disappointed with Season 2

Enough time has passed that I can look at Season 2 and definitely agree it wasnt as bad as I remembered it at first LOL It still has issues due to a rushed production, but it also had great moments from time to time. Overall just alright for me

I've always thought the hate season 2 got for it's downgrade in quality was and is blown way out of proportion. There are a lot of people that for some reason are unable to recognize that something can be just good. Like 6 or 7/10 across the board just pretty decent. It seems like so many peoples mentality on the quality of anime nowadays is that something is either absolutely phenomenal or trash and there's no in between. And then there is just the notion that good animation is what makes a show which is just silly. Take away the awesome animation in season 1 and One Punch Man still has great comedy, fun characters, good soundtrack, and an interesting story among many other things.

The art style is more colorful and stylized but the animation, especially during fight scenes, is significantly worse. It’s something you only get a feel for when you pay attention, and wont matter to you otherwise, but a lot of this season has ‘slideshow’ animation where they just drag a single picture around. A LOT of very talented people worked on season one, industry giants. So there’s just nothing to be done about it. It’s still OPM you know. Like if attack on titan didn’t have the Levi V Kenny scene. It would still be good, but that insane animation moment FUCKS

I think ultimately all the hate for season 2 came simply from expectations. People waited for years to get another season, when the first one was some of the best work of some of the best talents in the industry. While this was some of the most okay work of some still very talented people. It’s like showing up to a rock show and hearing imagine dragons covers lol Still the time gap let new techniques leveraging computer post processing give the show an impressive visual sheen. Most of the look improvements is actually just every color being a subtle gradient, which is odd, but it works. As well it’s a lot more saturated. That goes into the sound design as well, lots of extraordinarily deep bass hits for explosions.

@DrumRollTony Reacts It's interesting to me that you feel that way. Not that there is anything wrong with that obviously, it's completely subjective and I think it's really cool to see someone actually appreciate season 2 for once. It's just so rare to hear someone not only openly praise but even say season 2 looks better. I know you said you know nothing about animation but I'm curious if you're able to put your finger specifically on anything that catches your eye with the new animation.

At the end of the day, if you like the animation and enjoy S2 more than S1, who cares what other people think right? I've never seen S2 so I'll be discovering it with you and so far I've got no complaints 🤷‍♂️

Imagine dragons is pretty disliked in general but I don't mind them. Though I don't like the full version of the arcane opening as it's very poppish.
