Aloha, Patrons!

Happy August to you!  Last night, I enjoyed the full moon on the beach, and I'll be celebrating my birthday all month (Leo season 🦁).  Sending all my aloha to you, and wishing you happy and healthy uke-filled days.

I'd like to warmly welcome our new Patrons and "Quarantine Newbies" aka "Qukes"!  (I promise, I am working on those Quke shirts, after the album release!)  Please read on below for newbie-specific info, and introduce yourself in the comments!

Thanks to all of you, new or not, for directly supporting my work and for helping to create a powerful and positive online ukulele community.  I also want to give a huge shoutout to our Community Managers, who give their time and energy to support our Patron family.

Exciting news: my trio U3 (me, Ukulenny, and Abe Lagrimas, Jr.) will release our debut album In Waves on August 28th!

We finally have a release date, and I can't wait to share the new music with you.  Patrons will be the first to hear about pre-orders, new merch, and album release events.  Please save the date Sat 8/15 3pm PT for a special Patron-only album preview livestream with the band! 💙🌊

and speaking of Lenny and livestreams...

CL x Ukulenny Monthly Livestream is now officially Patron-supported 🤗

Since quarantine began, Ukulenny and I have been hosting livestreams to bring the online ukulele community together.  If you tuned in for last month's fun-filled Uke-Splosion Livestream, you saw that Lenny has been hard at work, figuring out the intricacies of aligning audio through the internet, and manipulating green screens so that we can "share the stage" together.

In the pic above, we're both streaming into Zoom (me from Hawaii, Lenny from Oakland) with green screens, and Lenny is using OBS to take our images from the Zoom call and rearrange them virtually.  It was way more fun to jam together in this format (than in the black squares of Zoom land).  On top of that, we are using Audiomovers to "virtually" play together (in reality, only one of us can hear the other, but it feels like real jamming for the person following!).

If you've been following our livestreams, you've seen the evolution of these technologies, and I am super grateful to Lenny for exploring the technical possibilities.  Since Lenny is spending both time and money on the software and gear to achieve this, I've decided to allocate some Patreon funds to support his efforts and keep taking these livestreams to the next level.  Big thank you to the Patrons for supporting this joyful community event, which we'll continue to host on the last Saturday of the month, at 3pm Pacific time.

Tune in for our August 29th Livestream: we'll celebrate the new album with an In Waves themed play-along, and a special band "performance"!

Be well, friends, and keep sharing your ukulele aloha!  I hope to see you online this month!

xo cynthia 🌺

Happy Leo Birthday, Cynthia 🥳🎉

Suzanne Stimson

I'm a Leo, too! What day is your birthday? Our uke group plays a lot of your arrangements. Love them!

Karen

I'm a retired teacher living in Taiwan. I have always loved music and singing and my friend encouraged me to learn to play the uke. I've been learning to play a Webster uke less than 2 years. I love Cynthia's songs and lessons, she's an excellent teacher and singer. We have a uke group that meets once a week and we play some of Cynthia's songs and many others. Thank you for all your work to promote the playing of ukes, Cynthia.

Alda

Hello Cynthia! Completely new to Patreon and I’m already pretty confused ahaha but I started playing the ukulele 3 weeks ago and your tutorials are amazing.

Heather Ellen

Have just completed my 100th song on the 100 Days challenge. I want to concentrate now on learning more skills and techniques and make time to watch and participate in your tutorials and jams. I am so grateful to you and the ukulele community that surrounds you for bringing such joy into my life. Love and gratitude from New Zealand.

Ellen Gladney

Hi I’m Elle a newbie from Oaklyn, NJ. I joined in mid June 2020 had a Firebratld soprano ukulele ,I got 3 years ago, pick it up again in March pandemic like everybody else. A week after join I bought a CL Concert ukulele. I am work on the splosion songs with cords. Will finger exercise getting better with bar cords. Happy Birthday and thank you Cynthia Lin

Joanna Adjetey

Hi I'm Joanna from London, UK. I've been a Patreon for a couple months now. I got a ukulele for Christmas and then really started practicing regularly during lockdown. Your YouTube videos are everything, don't think I would be where I am at now without them, so thank you :) My next focus is learning more fingerpicking songs, as well as trying to just jam freely - if anyone has got any tips on how to develop those kind of skills, please do share. PS Happy Birthday Cynthia!!

Pamela Kurtz

Hi, Cynthia! I was just gifted a uke on my birthday two weeks ago and have been playing and learning ever since. Excited to join the party!

Jenny Selig

Welcome! I learned fingerpicking from Cynthia's YT videos. You might check out this playlist. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLODvOB1QB53V1g1TSnr53qxy7rDqmQOF2

Deb

Dorian Davis

Karen M Coutu

hau'oli la hanau Cynthia, wishing you a fantastic Birthday Thank you for helping me learn to play! : )

James Elliott

Hi Cynthia, Happy Birthday. I am a relatively new Patreon. Glad to be in the group. Thanks for the info on how the two of you are playing together. Our band is still trying to figure it out. We certainly live in interesting times.

Marianne Oltmann

Hi. I stumbled across the videos while taking a Uke class at Vandercook College (online). I found that I really like your arrangements and tutorials. The ones I have listened to are at the right level to challenge me, but not be unattainable. I look forward to continuing to improve my skills with more of your materials.

Dina Smith

I am a true beginner and just signed up on Petreon so I can get the materials (mainly the chord charts) and participate in your live lessons. I very much like your teaching style.

Holly W

I have to admit that I didn't know much about the song Rainbow Connection, but after searching it online and hearing multiple versions such as Tori Kelly's and Willie Nelson's, I can't wait to learn it. Still is there a chance that one day you would teach "Vincent" by Don McLean? I would love to learn to play that song so much... Thanks Cynthia.

Veronica Kolb

Im not new to the uke, but you're free youtube vids got me started! thank you!

Veronica Kolb

can Anyone tell me how to get all the vids I unlocked with my membership? The only ones that are comeing up ar the vids for higher teirs of Patrons.

Maggie Currier

Me too! I'm having a heck of a time with this Patreon site. There's got to be an easier way! I'm searching for the fingerpicking tutorial for "All is Found" which is supposed availability for Patreon members but all I can find is the playalong. Can someone help me?? Argh!

Jenny Selig

Maggie and Veronica, are you using the Cynthia Lin Song Index? I think it's easier to navigate than Patreon's search function. https://www.patreon.com/posts/faq-topic-how-do-30092134?cid=31012978
