wild tangent time. Hearing you talk about Hachiman makes me understand a lot more about Godzilla. I've always wondered how he went so quickly from the metaphor for opening a box that we can no longer close to being the children's friend and protector of Japan. Clearly there are cultural predecessors.

I'm still catching up. Just wanted to say our nearest shrine of any size is a Hachiman shrine, about 10 mins walk from my apartment. My wife and I have been going by every few days for our walks, to at least barely stay in shape and un-insane. Walking up and down the stairs is good exercise.
