Cara calling Bjork a "gargantuan space alien that is trapped in a box with a xylophone" 😂😂

My mom would really appreciate this episode. I really like whipsmart, maybe it’s the straight white man in me, but Go West & the rumbling jungle beat toms on Jealousy is just mmm.

Jack, I just found a bottle of Hermès’ Eau d’Orange Verte while excavating under my desk. Any chance of hearing your impressions/allusions one of these days? I love what you do — Alissa Bennett 🧞‍♀️🫖

Ughhhhh thank you so much. I have loved Liz Phair for 25 years and there’s just so few people that love her and get it so I really appreciate this episode.

Jack Mason is a great feminist ally

Another wonderful episode - thank you. I vividly recall the gap grass scent being released and buying ‘Exile in Guyville’ and then ‘Whip Smart’ shortly after, in my first term at University in London in ‘94. I really loved those records….’Stratford on guy’ is still the best pop song about a plane journey over Chicago ;) Any love for the Hugo Boss men’s scent (had the fabric connected lid)? I wore it all the time in this period. Also - Cara is a terrific guest. Thanks!

Intense Cafe from Montale is very pretty but it doesn’t smell as earthy as French roast 😞

Loved your dissection of the difference between Madonna and Liz. We girls loved Madonna, but she was not relatable. She was larger than life, existed in a sphere we’d never be a part of. Liz on the other hand was us—we all looked like her, talked like her, had her experiences. Crack open the keepsake box of any Gen Xer, and you’ll probably find a card or a letter with a Liz Phair lyric scrawled in it. She spoke for an entire generation of women in ways that Madonna and Courtney Love, for all their passion and audacity, didn’t.

What I'll say about Liz vs her peers is the level of candor you get. As cara alluded to, many of her contemporaries had a talent for euphemisms, 25 cent words & cloaked messages. Liz was the rare type of woman you meet who will say I'm taking you home to fuck me. Unhinged yet never gratuitous. Just fun. She's said she's sorry she stole your lighter and lost the map but she'd never say to pity her
