Movie Run Time: 1:59:49

You will need your own copy of the movie to watch along! 😁

I have adagio for strings stuck in my head but now it reminds me of this movie instead of the taste of spew. So that’s nice. Hope you all have a lovely weekend!

Platoon won four Academy Awards: Best Picture, Best Director for Stone, Best Sound, and Best Film Editing. It was nominated for eight Academy Awards total. Platoon was Oliver Stones first film of a trilogy of Vietnam War films "Platoon" (1986), "Born on the Fourth of July "(1989) and "Heaven & Earth" (1993). Oliver Stone also wrote Platoon based on his experience from the war.

Not a funny movie. Not sure but another Vietnam war movie would be "Apocalypse Now" with Martin Sheen Charlie's dad, Harrison Ford, a very young Lawrence Fishburne (Matrix, John Wick), and Marlin Brando. Then you can watch the Ben Stiller's war movie spoof "Tropic Thunder"

I remember going to see this in the theater with my older brother back in the '80's. We had been drinking all day and I ended up falling asleep halfway through. I am so glad I got to revisit it with Dawn this evening. I love how she took it so seriously. She didn't ew and aww all the way through. She treated it with the respect for the soldiers that Oliver Stone mirrored when he made the film. This is Dawn at her most serious and introspective. A must watch.

I must say Dawn, you never cease to amaze me. Your reaction to the scene of Elias played by Willem Dafoe was one of the most humane, engaged, and deeply empathetic reactions I’ve ever seen for that scene. That scene Dawn, is one of the most iconic and immortalized moments in the history of film. Willem Dafoe being gunned down throwing his arms up in the air is an image ingrained in the cultural consciousness. You reacted to that whole scene with such raw emotions. The writer and director of this film is Oliver Stone. The film is loosely based on his own real life expenses serving in the Vietnam war. The Charlie Sheen character representing him. Oliver Stone has done what is known as his Vietnam Trilogy. Platoon is the first of these films. Stone then made another Vietnam film based on a true story . “Born on the Forth of July” (1989) This film stars Tom Cruises in a role like you’ve never seen him. And the third film in the trilogy is “Heaven and Earth” (1993) “Heaven and Earth” is also based on a true story. But the true story of a young Vietnamese village girl growing up in Vietnam as the war raged on from years. The story is her perspective and experience. These are both very powerful films Dawn. They are MUST see’s!!!

Yes, adagio for strings makes me think of Platoon every time I hear it. So glad it got best movie ever!

If memory serves me correct Johnny Depp played the translator before the village massacre. Depp plays a very small part in this.

Great reaction Dawn. I enjoy your company watching along with you . I served in the same army unit from 1991- 1995. The 25th infantry division. Stationed out of Schofield Barracks , Hawaii. Great history and tradition. Hawaii was a wonderful place to live . It’s truly a paradise . Beaches, weather , I have a million stories . Time of my life I’ll never forget.

It's a classic film platoon and Charlie sheen did silly films after he made it as a big star. I thought you seen "Young Guns 1 and 2" Dawn? My favourite western films.

Tom Hartley

Another serious Charlie Sheen movie is “Cadence” which also features his dad, Martin Sheen.
