Thank you so much to Don Wagner for this months P.P! I feel quite ashamed that I didn’t recognise Lee Marvin as the no nose guy 🤣 while I’m swooning over Kid Shelleen!

CAT BALLOU (1965) 🪕 First Time Watching 🎬 Movie Reaction

Join me for my first time watching Cat Ballou. I hope you enjoy the video, my reaction, commentary and review! "Cat Ballou" is a quirky 1965 comedy-western that follows the fearless Cat Ballou, played by Jane Fonda, as she seeks revenge for her father's wrongful death. With the help of a bumbling outlaw, Kid Shelleen, portrayed by Lee Marvin, and a band of misfit friends, Cat takes on the corrupt town sheriff and his hired gunmen. Packed with humor, memorable musical numbers, and a unique blend of satire and adventure, the film captures the spirit of the Wild West while delivering a feminist twist. That shot of Lee Marvin and his horse slumped against the building is probably my favorite comedy reveal shot of all time.

JL Green

One of my favorite western comedies. Lee Marvin won an Oscar for his performance.

Simon

You probably know, but Jane Fonda's dad was Henry Fonda. 12 Angry Men and Once Upon a Time in the West.

Alan Jones

I think you'd like On Golden Pond, starring Henry Fonda and Katharine Hepburn, with Jane Fonda on hand as their daughter. It's more about growing old, so focuses more on the older folks, but there's plenty of father-daughter angst going on as well. Have you done The Dirty Dozen? I think so. That's a big outing for Lee Marvin. Besides that, maybe Paint Your Wagon, but I'm not really that fond of Lee Marvin's and Clint Eastwood's singing attempts. Others will diagree, but it doesn't hit home with me. Jane Fonda was also in Barbarella, a space-comedy sex-romp. I'm not sure it's to your taste, but it had a following in its day. A running gag seems to be finding ever more creative ways of stripping Jane out of her clothes. How abut Nine To Five, with an ensemble of women (Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, Dolly Parton, and someone else I'm forgetting), taking revenge on their male chauvanist boss. It features Parton's hit song of the same title. The China Syndrome was a biggie for J.F. She also co-starred with Robert Redford in The Electric Horseman, which was okay, but not giganictally big.

The late, great Dabney Coleman was the boss in "9 to 5". He was also Jane Fonda's boyfriend or fiancé in On Golden Pond. His short-lived comedy series in the early 80's, Buffalo Bill, was hilarious but waaayy ahead of its time. Pre-saged the "cringe comedy" boom. He played a selfish, egomaniacal, misanthropic but somehow not without charm talk-show host. Only 2 seasons/26 episodes, Dawn! (hint, hint 😁)... Also Barefoot in the Park & Klute for J. Fonda. Two very different roles/films.

Alan Jones

Nat King Cole didn't do a lot of screen work. His big success came with singing live and on record. But his sidekick here, Stubby Kaye, is worth catching in Guys and Dolls (1955), where he sings Sit Down, You're Rockin' the Boat, and steals the show, from Frank Sinatra, Marlon Brando, and an ensemble cast of the 1950's leading comic character actors.

Louis Marzullo

Well-done, Mr. Wagner, to coax that lovely expression from Dawn! 🥰

resinmonkey .

I was hoping you'd get to see this one day. I hate to say this... but I watched this in the theatre when I was a kid. God, I feel old.

Ragnar Miersch

Let's wish this into being. Dawn Marie doing her Special Scottish Christmas Dance. Who's with me?

Ragnar Miersch

Kudos Mr. Wagnar. Excellent choice. Not only was this reaction supremely entertaining, but educational as well. Learning the physics of biting off your opponent's nose and the correct pronunciation of who-kar will serve me well in life.

Louis Marzullo

Hmm, depends. Is this something she's actually mentioned or a flight of whimsy? ☺️ Honestly, I'd be happy to just see her tree. There has to be something uniquely Dawn about her decorating style!🎄

Louis Marzullo

Haha, just settling in for the reaction now, a little after 11 p.m. Thanks, Ragnar!

Bill W

The Hole-In-The-Wall saloon keeper, Butch Cassidy... I sure hope we get to see him again. (COUGH eldorado)

Bill W

Dawn- more Lee Marvin? Bad Day at Black Rock - 1955 (Lee Marvin and Walter Brennan in secondary roles) The Commancheros - 1961 (John Wayne, Lee Marvin) Donovan's Reef - 1963 (John Wayne, Lee Marvin) Paint Your Wagon - 1969 (Clint Eastwood, Lee Marvin)

Louis Marzullo

To any of my fellow patrons who can relate: "Hey, to you it's Thanksgiving. To me it's Thursday". 😆🥊🐢🐢🐠... Happy Thanksgiving to all celebrating!

Louis Marzullo

Now when I like a comment, the little heart stays red instead of turning blue & then later I may forget whether I gave it a like. Pain in the ass Patreon! 🤬

Cat's pa was Woltz! They tried to muscle him! And he ain't no bandleader! 😂... Dawn, Jane's brother Peter Fonda was also an esteemed actor. Please add "Ulee's Gold" to your list. He also had an iconic role in "Easy Rider" but you might have a Dr. Strangelove reaction to that one... or worse, Blair Witch Project! 😆 And you'll remember Peter's daughter, Bridget Fonda as the blonde who pissed off the wrong psychopath in "Jackie Brown". Louisssss... 😄
