Hi everyone! Long time no see on this platform!

I've been marathon streaming for a subathon event this year. Apologies for the delay of watchalongs so far.

But, I realized that Twitch watch parties + recording my reaction could maybe work for crossover content! So I started a show that I've heard amazing things about: The Expanse.

This first episode is a lil janky because I didn't expect to be able to post it on Patreon or as a reaction video. But, I learned a lot, and I'm going to clear up the scenes/have the content blurred for easy syncing.

I honestly think this is a good thing! Chat was pretty silent during the actual show, so minimal distractions. I will probably go through this show way quicker because I'm streaming it. And if you wanted to join me to watchalong live, we could have a live discussion! You just need to connect your Prime account to Twitch. ❤

It's no Battlestar Galactica or Star Trek but I enjoyed The Expanse for the most part. I guess one negative I have that is a problem with alot of Sci Fi media is how generic everything can look. First time i saw it I thought "Eh looks like a billion other space games, movies, shows" but the characters and story is pretty good. Kind of like The Last of Us it has an amazing story with great characters but the world is pretty uninteresting which is how I feel about this show. In terms of visual design and audio Star Wars, Star Trek, Homeworld, Dune, Mass Effect, and Halo blow The Expanse out of the water as for me at least everything just looked pretty bland with no designs that stood out. But I am being pretty hard on the visuals comparing it to something like Star Wars which has a very iconic look. There is a game coming out in the style of a telltale game but idk I'd rather play anything else like Jedi Survivor or Starfield so idk how well the games going to do but hope it's good and fans of the show enjoy it.

Star Wars is a fairy tale set in space in a universe filled with magic. The Expanse is set 300 years in our future in the real world. I disagreed with some of what Alcon did with the show, such as creating crew conflict just to add drama, which they did often and the over reliance on blue light and blue glow in their special effects. But the spaceship designs were very good and the way they show mostly correct physics in spaceflight, if less so in low gravity environments, was accurate and believable. The first 2 seasons are very good, mainly for devoting enough time to their adaptation of the first book, Leviathan Wakes, which doesn't finish until episode 4 or 5 of season 2. I think it's a very good series, though, through season 4, but after that they were given a very limited number of episodes by Amazon Prime to adapt books 5 and 6, not nearly enough at all and large amounts of the story had to be cut while they had to make creative choices that I think didn't work in order to bring the show in within budget.
