So, this is apparently now a thing.

I thought about doing it, because it adds some convenience for me and helps with those guys who show up, pledge for a day or two, then vanish and quit before the monthly charge.

On the other hand, it affects you guys who are already pledged, too, because it'll charge you the difference immediately if you change your amount to a higher tier and there are no refunds if you change your mind. I don't want to alienate any of you guys by doing that, so that's why I haven't enabled it immediately.

It's also a permanent change. So I can't test it out and then stop it if you guys decide you don't like it and tell me so.

I'm still leaning towards doing it, but if anyone has any thoughts on the subject, please share.

I don't subscribe to people who do charge up-front. If I subscribe and the content is bad, I want to be able to unsub instead of being out of $5 or $10 or w/e.

Personally, though I only sub for a dollar so my opinion might not matter the most, I think it depends entirely on what content is offered. Seeing as you also release quite a bit of your material on other sites for free, I think it is more than fair that you charge up front. Might have been a different thing if I hadn't been able to sample your writing before though.

Charge-up-front seems like a good idea. Considering you have a large library of content on free sites, i.e. fanfiction.net, people can see what you have to offer. Patreon is more of a way to see what you haven't released/are still working on. It doesn't really negatively affect your current patreons, except those free sampling. Maybe make a poll or something if you're torn on what to do?
