Might wind up being more than a single chapter, honestly. There's a lot that I need to cover for her, and I have in mind exactly how it needs to go. I'm just not sure I can fit it all into one chapter.

Gifted-Monster

Oooh, extra spoopy start just for Halloween!

Green0Photon

I need as much Marie as fast as possible

Gifted-Monster

So is this Aife's interlude or rank up quest?

Gifted-Monster

Given interludes/ rank ups are typically in dream states...yus. Yus I did. My question is, will Dream-Aife's interpretation of the Masters change how things happen?

Green0Photon

Seeing the latest update to this... I'm not particularly a fan of introducing Yukio to this. Despite loving both fics. And it just being a ghost dream of another time. I guess it breaks my suspension of disbelief with the premise of an SI, whereas Worm Isekai into Fate is supposed to make somewhat more sense? Though really, it doesn't really matter. Considering how dumb FGO is, what you've probably done is make Fate Recursive Wisdom the canonical tree of events, such that Yukio will get introduced back in FGO just like how you have something similar with FSN people in FGO normally. Idk

This would be the closest the story ever comes to having Yukio show up as himself, and it's just a dream. FRW is, in this case, just another timeline that exists, a "possible sequence of events." I could remove his name from things and just leave it an implication of his identity, but I'm not sure that solves the problem you're having, not now that you already know who it's *supposed* to be.

I suppose it's about levels of timelines, where there's a meaningful difference between something just being another timeline next to another, versus being a story beneath a timeline. In that there's a whole group of one type of one multiverse canonical under one author (e.g. canon), versus someone making a fanfic where that multiverse is completely separate. I suppose in my mind there's a difference in fics where the lower level multiverse contacts the one above it (SI), versus this story previously, where it was just a self contained Kaleidoscope/Wormverse multiversal merge. And authors may or may not have each of their fics also occur in separate multiverses, but yes in different universes. I suppose there isn't anything wrong with it. Just the changed expectation. What *would* properly fix things would be if any Yukio reference isn't really canonical, but a stand in to a plausible student she had in another timeline. But at that point it's less meaningful and doesn't work in some other ways. Being an author meme is like saber face before it became canonical. I.e. the artist/writer being an imperfect representation of the platonic story that "actually happened". I guess it's also that there's a lesser level of seriousness that I take SIs with, even when they are deadly serious and could basically be a published story. So without stuff like that, I imagine it as if Wildbow were to release this as a sequel to Worm instead/in addition to Ward. Obviously many fanfics aren't like that, and couldn't be as great as they are without those features. But in absence of those, I like to imagine as if it could be canon. And it's the sort of clash of these fanfic types which threw me off. Unless I disregard this chapter as non canon, this fic kind of gets infected. What would be amusing would be if you did the canonicity things to turn Yukio into a non cross multiversal entity. I.E. make it so that original you lived in another universe within the same multiverse and had a freak magical event with another freak event showing another universe as a story in the same multiverse, rather than across multiverses. A bit awkward, though that technically fixes things but not emotionally, probably. Idk. You really should probably just continue as you planned, unless you start thinking that it is actually slightly tacky. I just wanted to share my surprise of the effect that this had on me. Don't worry about it too much. I still love this fanfic and FRW. (Give me more Olga Marie!)

I may as well embrace how entertaining this will be with you writing about this shadow Yukio and kind of future Aife. And if you're bothering including this, you really should go all out and just include some sort of Yukio possession or whatever like the rest of the FSN cast. Because FRW may as well be that here, and it *would* be more fun. When you choose to do something, do it 100%, without shame!

James_D_Fawkes

From the beginning, it's about Aife's regrets. It's... Maybe I'm pushing the envelope a little by bringing Yukio in, even in such a roundabout manner, and I *am* a little leery about it, but what he's supposed to represent in this dream sequence is key to Aife's character arc. It's all in the chapter title, after all.
