This is now, officially, the longest chapter in Hereafter. It clocks in at over 8000 words and steals the title from "Engine of Destruction." It's big enough that I actually would have split it in two if I had managed to reach 9K or higher.

Geez, a lot happens this chapter.

There were some parts I worried a little about, and the fight doesn't feel particularly punchy (ha), but I think it accomplishes what I wanted it to accomplish. Above everything else, I wanted the chapter to end exactly the way it does, precisely because of what it lets me do with the next couple of chapters.

It can't be all parties and celebrating in this Singularity. Serious Shit(TM) needs to happen every now and again, too.

EDIT: Moving down.

EDIT2: I moved Chapter XCV too far down on accident, so you might have read these out of order.

Man, I bet Taylor is praying Blackbeard doesn't come back, because Blackbeard + Rika + Nero + Jalter= Taylor may want the world to burn >.>

...well, damn. That's not good. However, and unfortunately for Taylor's enemies, she's the type that thrives in adversity. It will be interesting to see what becomes of her. Thanks for the update.

SilverShadows

Taylor just can't trust older men with fancy transforming polearms. They always screw her over at the worst time and are at least tangentially responsible for her nearly drowning!

TimeDiver

Someone remind me... was Okeanos the first Singularity where a Servant started referencing modern-day pop culuture references? Or were there Interludes where other aspects crept in? I mean, yeah... Quetzalcoatl is an (arguably) even more notable example, since a freaking *Divine Spirit* really, really got into LUCHA LIBRE, but were there other examples before Teach?

SilverShadows

Tamamo was doing that before FGO was even a thing. Heck Tamamo mentions being email buddies with Kiyohime and Osakabehime back in Fate/Extra or possibly CCC iirc. And later there's Elizabeth the idol singer. Though this would be the first time Taylor had run into it since Elizabeth basically got written out of France and didn't really interact with her in Septum.

SilverShadows

Liz and Kiyohime were originally in the France Singularity in the game. With Liz there specifically to confront Carmilla and getting into a fight with Kiyohime. Here they got moved to Septum with Stheno, who was originally alone in canon, presumably because Carmilla got absolutely rekt before she even got to really speak in France. However, Elizabeth didn't really get a chance to speak much in Septum either. Kiyohime also makes them, if much less often, due to her connection to Tamamo... but she's in literally the same situation as Elizabeth. So, from Taylor's perspective, Blackbeard is the first Servant she's met to make modern day pop culture references. But that's mainly because she jumped and beat up the two she met before who would've also made them while they were taking a bath and then just left them behind on an island. Things have diverged to the point Kiyohime might not ever stalk Ritsuka in this story.
